Citizen Public House is a vibrant gastropub dishing out innovative New American fare, where the welcoming vibe and craft drinks make every meal a delight.
"Citizen has a divey pub vibe without the lingering cigarette smoke or sticky floors, making it an obvious contender for a Manchester United-loving dad’s 53rd birthday dinner. Expect sunburned tourists and hospitality industry folks snacking on the bacon fat popcorn, and excellent barrel-aged cocktails like the Rose Garland with bourbon and blood orange liqueur. The menu goes hard on comfort classics including fondue-dipped pretzels, meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and a salmon, buttermilk-herb dressed salad. Chat up the host and casually drop a question about Citizen’s private dining—you might be invited to the restaurant’s hidden speakeasy to drink whiskey in heavy glasses. " - lauren topor

"When chef Bernie Kantak left Cowboy Ciao to open Citizen Public House, he brought the Stetson chopped salad he invented with him. An informal custody battle ensued until Cowboy Ciao closed its doors in 2018, but Kantak’s famous salad survived. Now called the “Original” chopped salad, it lives on at Citizen as well as at Kantak’s Camelback Corridor restaurant — the Gladly. It’s a colorful mix of ingredients that play well together — smoked salmon, arugula, pearl couscous, pepitas, dried sweet corn, and marinated tomatoes — arranged in neat rows, sprinkled with Asiago cheese and tossed table-side in herbaceous buttermilk dressing. Salty, sweet, and loaded with texture, it’s the kind of salad that invites imitation; indeed, the recipe — in some form or other — has been posted on the internet repeatedly. But why make it at home, when you can eat the original “Original”?" - Nikki Buchanan, Chris Malloy
"A contemporary take on a traditional pub, Citizen Public House is known for its craft beers, classic and modern cocktails, and interesting pub grub. Snacks include bacon-fat popcorn and a beer fondue made with the local Kilt Lifter brew. Main courses like short ribs witha coffee rub and pan-seared scallops with grits are hearty and delicious. The spot is beautiful, too, with mahogany furniture, oversize leather booths, and a large stainless steel–topped center bar. Speaking of the bar—Citizen Public House is a good spot to tip one back with the locals. Because the barsupports Arizona brewers and wineries, you’ll find Four Peaks Hop Knot IPA and Pillsbury Wild Child white blend on the list, along with wines from Caduceus Cellars and Dos Cabezas."
