Christy’s Donuts & Kolaches in Montrose is a beloved neighborhood joint where you can snag warm, flaky pastries and Texas-style kolaches before they sell out.
"A seemingly hole-in-the-wall donut shop that always has a line to the door. Before you know it they're loading up your morning desserts almost quicker than you can select them. They always toss in a couple extra donut holes too! In addition to the donuts you cannot forget to get a pile of kolaches. If you aren't familiar with this pastry, think pig-in-the-blanket, but way better. We have the Czech immigrants to thank for this baked good, but Texans to thank for the addition of sausage, cheese, and sometimes when you're feeling spicy, jalapeños. Want to take it to another level? Throw some cajun influence in the mix with boudain." - Curiosity and Curiosities
"Savory kolaches are Christy’s bread and butter. While the standard small sausage and cheese taste great, opt for the smoked Chappell Hill-stuffed kolaches or the sinus-clearing spicy boudin instead. Especially because Christy’s dough, with its egg wash and satisfying-to-pull-apart bread, tastes like it's made of spun gold. One large kolache could set you up for the whole day given each one weighs five pounds. " - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi
"The Montrose donut shop Christy’s makes the best apple fritter donut in town. It’s packed with cinnamon and jammy apples, and surrounded by perfectly fried edges. A true Houston delicacy, the boudin kolaches softly pull apart to reveal surprisingly spicy, smoky, and tender sausage. Service at this family-run spot is quick and friendly, and they always sneak a couple donut holes into every bag. Pop in for some warm donuts to-go, or stay and share some donuts on their vintage yellow tables." - Chelsea Thomas, Gianni Greene
"HOUSTON As the crowned donut headquarters of Houston, Christy’s Donuts & Kolaches makes one the best apple fritters in town. You can also load up on cherry and chocolate-iced donuts with sprinkles, classic bear claws, glazed donuts with a cinnamon sugar crumble, and kolaches, the Czech-style sweet bread stuffed with sausage or boudin. Service at this family-run spot is quick and friendly, and they always tuck a couple donut holes into each bag." - carlo mantuano, team infatuation
