Chettinad Dosa Palace

I ordered Chicken Beryani and Eggplant Curry. I loved both. Tasty, not really hot, but you’ll love all spices and herbs. I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you very much!

We found this place by accident. My wife and I were really hungry after visiting the Burnbay village museum for the Christmas Tree Lighting special. We were so pleasantly surprised at how authentic and amazing the food was. It felt similar to what we were having in the middle east. It made us feel nostalgic for a restaurant we loved to eat at in Bahrain. We will definitely visit more often! It's our new spot.

I got take out on October 13th. They gave me this half of the lamb vindaloo dosa even though they charge full price for it. It has very less filling as well. Very disappointing and tastes terribly dry and bitter. I called the store and they don’t take accountability of their quality of their food and aren’t honest at all. Definitely never going back or recommending this awful restaurant to anyone.

We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday evening. Got seated immediately. Medhu vada and cauliflower 65 were good starters. Onion tomato chilli uthapam was tasty. So were gun powder dosas. It comes with masala, we requested the dosas without it; price was same though. Veg kothu paratta was not tasty. Mango lassi , falooda drinks and coffee were good. They seem under staffed. The lady serving us seemed overwhelmed and tired. We had a rather long wait for our food. There is not much of an ambience; very basic and old fashioned interiors.

I'm being kind while giving away 4 stars to this restaurant, and that's only and only due to the fact that the food was extra spicy, the way we like it. We asked for the food to be made extra spicy and they delivered. Otherwise everything else was going against this restaurant. We were the only ones in the whole restaurant during their lunch service and the food still took over 40 mins to reach our table. Imagine the wait time of it gets busy. The atmosphere is very basic with ventilation being an issue. Go for the food, not for the atmosphere.

Had Chicken Kotthu and asked them to make it spicy. It was super spicy and fresh. A little bit of coriander leaves were added on top. It came with a tasty gravy. Great portion that I shared with another person. The other day, I tried their Rasam, awesome in flavours and heaven on a rainy day. Poori and Parata are a bit oily, but tasty. I was eager to try their idli, but they said that it's not available. Update : On my second visit, tried Chicken pepper fry with extra spicy. They delivered it as expected high level of spice and tasted great with rice. But be prepared for many No No. Rasam wasn’t available. Rasamalai and Faluda drink were also not available. So left the place without any desserts.

Great food experience, please try there chicken pepper soup reminded me of home, Rava onion dosa don’t forget to tell them to make it with ghee.

Food was delicious! And the server Sahil was so sweet and fast with service. We got our utensils and waters immediately after being seated, and were even expedited an appetizer earlier than expected. Cute little spot, I really appreciate the art they have up on the walls. It’s a little run down, but for the food, service, and maybe a little bit of privacy and intimacy w your introverted mate, this spot is perfect. Oh and they checked if the food was dairy free for me beforehand which I really appreciated. (Worth the price it don’t break the bank btw! A dosa is like $10)

A gem along Canadaway, who will think that there is a good Indian restaurants in the highway.....I love Indian cuisines ever since it was introduced to me... Medium size restaurant but seating and tables are well organized so it can house large group as well...good for family events and kids friendly. Free parking...well not a lot but i do not think it will be a problem.. Surprisingly busy place, my first time here and i noticed its like a one man show....service is very friendly but just like the free wifi...it is slow.... Indian inspired decors, neat place and observes covid-19 precautions. Appetizer: I got the Chettinad combo In here i get 2 vada and 1 idly, comes with 2 kinds of sauce, not sure what are they but the other one taste like it has coconut on it and the other one its like a mixture of spices and tomato sauce. The vada taste very good its like a donut without a filling but you get to dip them on the sauce..The idly is plain like a sponge cake..tasteless but eaten with the sauce it was good. small size soup is included Main entree; Butter Chicken Masala Dosa, the reason why i came here..the last time I ate dosa was like 2 years ago....The thing that i really like with dosa is the crispy wrapper, its like and similar taste to a very thin pancake, Then tear it into small pieces dipped into the sauce....hmmmmmm the richness of flavors and blending of the sweet taste dosa wrapper and the meat inside is so perfect, each bite is immaculately good...exploding and satisfying my Yelper taste buds.... Deceiving though because the dosa was so long and puffy the meat is concentrated in the middle...but still generous serving... What BUSY place i was here for morethan an hour including my wait time....people picking up orders is litera;lly non-stop...i smells a lucrative business in here. Excellent foods, neat place but they should add man power ...service is slow because its a one man show.....

Chettinad is a comfortable, AFFORDABLE, and tasty place to get your dosas. I go there in my lunch breaks quite often and always have a great time!

Waited for an additional 45 mins on top of the guesstimated delivery time. Could see our Uber Eats driver waiting. First item in the bag had hair at the clasp of the container. Pretty grossed out. We tried the chicken tikka and butter chicken but it was ridiculously dry! Had to be washed down with drinks because it was overwhelming my throat when I swallowed the tough chicken meat. Perhaps use dark meat instead? It'll be more forgiving for the longer cooking times this seems to require.

I'm so glad this place is here and has managed to stick around. It's on Canada Way near Burnaby City Hall, so parking isn't great. But the dosas are excellent for both meat-atarians and vegetarians and the server is quite friendly and mostly quick.

Ate here yesterday October 20 2023, this place has gone downhill, not sure if there are new owners but it was tasteless. I had a dosa and the filling had no flavor, I could have feed it to a 1 year old and they would have spit it out. I would not recommend this place, save yourself and find another dosa place even if you have to drive a bit.

Just save yourself the horrible experience and do not come here. I would rather go hungry

First of all, be aware that the food can take an eternity to appear. My friend and I sat for an extraordinarily long time, and then I suddenly remembered - I just need to change my mindset. I've spent enough time in South India that I should know better! You might wait for ages for your meal, but that's because it's being made fresh, not just reheated from some bucket in the fridge. So when there's no sign of your dinner and the server seems to have forgotten about you and your water glasses, just tell yourself you're having an authentic experience. And when it finally did arrive, damn, it was good. I had the lamb and eggplant dosa, which offered a generous portion of tender chunks of lamb. My friend had the chicken masala dosa, which was just as tasty. Chutneys and sambar were all flavourful and fresh. This was my second trip here and I remember it being excellent the first time as well. I'd rank it over House of Dosas or Dosa Factory for quality of food. Try it out - but remember to slow yourself down mentally a bit first, and don't expect Western speed or service!

I'm not really sure why it's taken me so long to try dosas... I've always driven by House of Dosa on Kingsway but never stopped by. Well, one day I decided on trying Chettinad Dosa Palace in Burnaby, near the Safari Snack House. I dropped by around noon on a weekday in late October and it was rather quiet although some other diners started to arrive a little later. I opted for the Lamb Vindaloo Dosa ($14.95) and asked for a medium spicy level. It arrived on a metal tray with some spicy soup and cold dipping sauces. I was surprised at how large the dosa was (it was literally hanging a couple of inches off the metal serving tray) but both ends of the dosa were empty. Inside the thin wrapper was tender chunks of lamb (some of which had fattier pieces), peas, potatoes, and onions. While similar to a crepe, the dosa was slightly crisp on the exterior while the inside was softer. The dosa looks a lot bigger than it is but it was still pretty filling. I thought that the dipping sauces were a bit on the weak side. Overall, not bad but nothing really to call home about. The dosa seems to take second stage to the filling.

We were coming back from Art of Sauna late at night, and my friend suddenly craved dosa. Really?? At 9pm, on the highway, between Burnaby and Vancouver?! Everything was closing. I thought there was no way we could even find a decent night snack. Magically, this dosa restaurant appeared in our view, by the highway! First I gave kudos to my friend's "law of attraction" skills. Then, walking towards the big glowing "OPEN" sign, it was so surreal I was became suspicious. Why is there an East Indian restaurant by the highway open so late at night? It felt like that Hansel and Gretel story, except instead of a cake house it was a dosa house. I can't remember if we had dosa or if we had a wait long. But, I do remember the cauliflower was amaaazing. This place is a bit far, but I'll definitely revisit! Seems like a lot of people think the service is slow. Maybe we'll call ahead.

We came here for a belated Father's Day Dinner. I loved the Dosa My chai was very slow. I think that they forgot to give it to me. Everyone got there drink and 25 minutes later I had to remind him to bring it over. The bill fiasco was just that...a fiasco. I was clear on the instructions to have the bill split three ways, however, either he was confused or I wasn't explaining it properly but it become a show of confusion and unnecessary misunderstanding for something that should've been simply executed. Other than that he was very friendly, even joking with the table. The chai was nicely made. The place is small but accommodating for both large and small families. The booth was very comfortable.

Came to this restaurant for somewhat of a late dinner around 9pm. It was our first time so we didn't realize till we were half way through our meal that they closed at 10. It was all good though as they let us finish and didn't rush us. Now it had been a few years since I had last eaten dosa's so I didn't know what to expect. But after taking my first couple bites, it all came back to me and man were my taste buds going crazy! I ordered the Paneer masala dosa and my friend got the butter chicken, we were both very pleased with our choices. Portion size is perfect, and the food is worth every penny. Will be most definitely making a return trip the next time I'm craving dosas, maybe even bring a few more friends to enjoy the food with!

Came here last night for dinner and started with a mango lassi and falooda (rose flavoured milky drink with noodles and ice cream on top) to drink. For an appy we shared the onion and potato pakoras with mint chutney and some sort of cinnamon sauce. Nice and crispy on the outside and plenty of flavour on the inside. I'm a sucker for mint chutney (I put that sh!t on everything) so that was my go to sauce. We shared the butter chicken dosa and prawn vindaloo dosa. Don't let these beasts intimidate you with their showy sizes (it's mostly crepe), my friend and I were both able to finish a dosa each (albeit we were both stuffed to the max by the end of it.) Both were good and had good flavour, I just wish there was more saucyness to each curry as they were both quite thick. The prawn vindaloo has a nice spicy kick to it. Each dosa came with a side of soup, coconut sauce and tomato sauce. Service was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Location is a pretty far trek for me, so I doubt I'd go out of my way to go again. But if you're in the neighborhood, I definitely recommend this place for a hearty meal!

This restaurant has the worst customer service. Very not friendly and very not welcoming. The food might be good but I think you have to do more than just that. Try having some social skills and treat your customers well.

Went there for lunch on Good Friday (2013) and and had a very nice experience. Right after my sis and I went into the door and helped ourselves to a table, a waiter came to us with menus before we even sat down! That is great attentiveness. The place does have vegetarian fare which is good news to me. After asking if the pakoras are wheat- and egg-free, the waiter said he believes they are so I proceeded to order the vegetable pakoras, a spinach marsala dosa and my sis ordered lamb samosas. The pakoras came with two delicious condiments, including a tamarind one. The tamarind sauce made the pakora-eating experience a very pleasant one. I did not go into the other dipping sauce as it appeared it may have dairy (should have asked). My dosa experience here was not as dramatic as what I had in House of Dosa (Kingsway) or Madras (Delta) but it was still delicious, filling and all. Whereas House of Dosa and Madras made their dosas crisp and huge, Dosa Grill made theirs softer and cone-shaped (I'm used to the ones the size and shape of an arm). The service was very efficient and attentive. I give them kudos for this and the quality of the food is very satisfactory. Good work!

Had the Chicken Roghan Josh. Friend had the spring masala dosa. Good portions, fair pricing. Will come back again.

Fantastic food. I agree with other comments that the place is cold, but I left my coat on the second trip. Really worth checking out if you have a discerning taste for Indian food. And yet again, several trips later, fab, complex flavours. Try the pepper lamb and Chettinad chicken curry.

We came here expecting Saravanaa Bhavan caliber South Indian food (dosas in particular) but left not feeling that satisfied. Had no issues with the food, just thought it was adequate at best. The chutneys for example tasted bland and the gun powder dosa was not spicy. Good if you have a craving for dosas but don't go with high expectations.

After eating Indian food for the past 30 years this Burnaby restaurant served the worst dish ever. I agree with other recent reviews that this place has severely dropped in the past few months. The Korma sauce that they served with the dish looked and tasted like it had just been poured straight out of a tomato can - definitely not made with the cashew base sauce that this traditional dish calls for. The vegetables were not your typical indian mix but rather looked and tasted like it had come out of one of those frozen mix vegetable bag. As for the service, it was as others mentioned...virtually non existent. Remarkable that restaurants like this can stay in business.

The South Indian food is excellent! I haven't had such great flavours in long time. The only area this restaurant lacked was service. It seems there is only one person running the show. The owner needs to put some emphasis on the service.

It began on a simple Saturday afternoon - we were driving down Canada way back home, when we spotted an oasis - dosa palace!! My mother and I have been craving dosa for a couple months now, and when we passed by this restaurant it felt like fate. We immediately made a u turn and decided to satisfy our cravings, and boy am I glad we did. The service was great - we got offered hot masala chai tea and our warm crispy dosas came with three different types of dipping sauce. Delicious. You can't really mess up a dosa - and these people held that statement quite well. They were delicious. I will be back, with an appetite for more dosa. Thank you dosa palace!

Excellent food. Simple but tasty. I would have to say that they don't have to fry everything, but of course we know that everything tastes better fried lol. Offering halal meats and veggie choices abound. Everything seems authentic (to this white guy anyway) and the service is good. We had the lamb masala dosa, veggie pakoras and the Poori masala. It could of been spicier but it's probably because we didn't look the part. I will remember to ask next time :). Go here. You will not be disappointed.

Horrible service! Waited 45 minutes in total and still no food. When asked why- the waiter could careless. He brushed off and asked for wait another 10 minutes. Didn't seem to wanna serve us because we sat outside in the patio. We called and complained as didn't want to make a scene at the restaurant. No compensation and the duty manager could care less. This use to be our go to dosa place. Never coming back here again.

Hello everyone, Lot of soda in their dishes, you will start burping after few minutes of having food. Also bathroom is having only one light, if u want to pee, u need to aim at a random place and do as u cannot see where the hole is !! Overall nope not a place. where u can have authentic food.

We ate here once and we love it! My kids, 2 are below 10yrs of age, enjoyed their food. So we kept coming back for more. We tasted other Indian restaurants, and having been in the middle east where Indian food is served on every corner, I can say that this place serves authentic tasting Indian dishes. And the place, though not so big, is comfortable and clean. But I'm not an expert on this, so you better come and taste the food yourself!!!

Driving around on Halloween night, I decided to stop by here and get some Dosha. Parking was okay, but I can see it as an issue if it was busy. Set up the spot was nice, I feel communal intimate. The staff was friendly The service was pretty good. The food.... YES, IT WAS GREAT. Price is higher, but the quality was up to standard too.

Good, solid choice: no other Indian restaurants near by. Recommend their butter chicken. There's a strip of other smaller, similar family run restaurants, but this one is the only real sit-down, spacious restaurant as well as its own parking lot. Accepts all cards. Also offer delivery/catering.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday and it was moderately busy, but our food came quickly. I had the chicken chettinad curry (I was given the option to make it spicier, but I kept it mild) and my wife had shrimp vindaloo dosa. My curry was really good: Not mouth burning spicy, but full of spicy flavour -- just the way I like it. The shrimp vindaloo dosa was also good, but too spicy (in the end, my wife had to swap me for my curry). It comes with some mouth-cooling chutneys, but if my curry didn't come with rice and salad we would have needed a mango milkshake or lassi (they have both). We didn't opt for the drinks so our meal was $30 with tax and tip. I think our friend had the masala chicken and it was super spicy in just the right way. I love Indian food, but this is only my second time having dosas. A few weeks ago I went to House of Dosa and found their dosas crispier and milder to the extent of blandness. I'm glad I gave dosas a second chance at Dosa Grill. (Although I still prefer naan and roti to dosa.)

Tried this place due to decent reviews and a love of Indian food. My friend and I came for dinner around 5:15pm, close to opening time. There were two other tables during our entire visit, plus a hand full of take-out orders. Our table didn't appear to be wiped, or maybe it wasn't wiped well, because there were some crumbs from a previous diner. My friend's seat was ripped as well. We wanted to give this place a chance despite first appearances. My friend and I wanted to order the mixed vegetable pakora, their "world famous" butter chicken, and their mutter paneer. We were told they didn't have butter chicken, which is odd considering they just opened. I asked if there is anything else on the menu that they don't have today, and they said they have everything else. My friend ordered the Chicken Curry instead. 15 minutes after ordering we were told they don't have mixed vegetable pakora. We should have left at this point, but we wanted to give them a chance. We opted not to get any appetizers, thinking our entrees should be coming out soon. 35min later we received our entrees - so it took about 50min to receive any food. My mutter paneer sauce tasted good, but my paneer was not fresh as was stated in the menu, I have purchased frozen paneer from superstore, and this paneer that was served to me was a dead ringer for the superstore one - cubed, rubbery, and low taste. I never tried the superstore paneer again because it made my stomach ill, which is what happened to me after eating the paneer from this restaurant. My friend's curry chicken was extremely over peppered. I tried her sauce and all I could taste was black pepper. The chicken pieces were the lowest quality cuts you could have - sinewy, fatty, and dark meat. Their was an off taste to her chicken, maybe it was old? She didn't finish her meal. Too top it off: our rice was over cooked, our meals were accompanied by a "salad" of strands of undressed iceberg lettuce, our waters were never refilled, and we were never checked on to see how our food was. We should have returned our meals but didn't think to do so at the time. Our experience was disappointing. My friend had to grab food from another place because she was still hungry.

Great food, many options but not the place for a quick bite. Service is meh, used to be awesome but idk where the guy went.

In premises that used to house the Dosa Grill now sits a new dosa restaurant, the Chettinadu Dosa Palace. Not having been to the Dosa Grill, I can't compare, but I can say that the Palace does serve some impressive food. The service was also quite good. And it was excellent that they could tailor the main dishes to meet our desired level of spiciness, as neither I nor my husband can tolerate too much heat. That said, the standard samosas and the sambal that came with our dosas were excellent, though sparkly on the tongue. The mango lassis were made fresh for us, and they were delicious. I had a paneer masala dosa; my husband, the chicken palak dosa. Both were excellent and perfectly prepared for our palates. A dinner like that made me realize how much I missed Indian food.

I just moved back to Canada and have been missing my favorite food Dosa! I drove by this place and decided to check it out. I ordered the paneer masala dosa. The filling was soggy and not very good. The sauces too, were, meh. Total was $11.50 with tax. I likely will not come back here for dosa.

We came here for a snack at lunch Yummy, fresh, hot, clean, and reasonably quick. I suspect these folks have trouble keeping up with high volumes, but I was happy. we got tea and samosas, they were great Will probably be coming back

They say they open at 11. We took a $20 cab just to find they hadn't open till 11:30. Let down!!!

This place is the worst! Took an hour and half to get our food. Server was inexperienced and forgot to bring us our drinks. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Never coming here again.

Have been to this dosa place few times. The food is really delicious and the service is the best. Everytime I have been there it was easy to make a reservation.

This is the only dosa place in Burnaby I know. My Indian coworker suggested. A very tasty dinner. We shared our dishes. Masala dosa was excellent and chettinand chicken curry was my favorite. Lamb dosa was flavorful too. I wouldn't recommend Tandoori chicken in a South Indian restaurant as it's a North India dish. We ordered it as my friend wanted to try it. The 1/2 chicken was dry ( 2.5 *dish). Service was OK. A very unusual location near deer lake. But if you go for a long walk or run it's a good place for a lunch. They have week day specials.

False Advertising on Yelp. Says they do delivery on Yelp when they actually don't. My wife calls and they said they don't. Can someone please change that detail?

Great tasting food and service! You will not be disappointed. Had a dosa, and vada. Both tasted great, one of the best dosa places in town. And it's better than big cRock urban...

Their food is great and lots of choice. That being said, they can be slow due to understaffing and price is a bit higher than other dosa places

I just love this place. The Sambar lentil soup is lovely and comes with all dosas. And they dosas are great! Nice and crispy. Very generous amount of fillings. My favourite is the palak paneer dosa. The interior is simple and unassuming. If u want a fancy place, this spot is not for you. But the service is excellent. And this place is all about the food!

This is ridiculous. I've been waiting here since 11am as that's their started opening time, and they are still not open at 11.50. I'm starving and very disappointed as I was excited to try their food for the first time.

After rudely interrupting me trying make a delivery order over and over again they say that they can't deliver. So, no delivery, even though it says they do on Yelp. Idiots.

We visited last week , very poor service , if you plan to have your lunch , I would suggest you to reach atleast 2 hours before , dead slow service , for a dosa they took 45 min , chicken curry was good , but not worth waiting for so long.

I was disappointed with our visit to this place today. We have been coming here and the food has always been remarkable. Today, the food was cold and salty. All four of us had dosa. Mine was the paper masala dosa. The filling was cold. The lentil soup thing was too salty. One of us had lamb vindaloo dosa and the filling was precooked before hand and not even warmed up to give the impression of freshness. It feels like the chef has changed. I don't have any desire to go back.

Today went to this Dosa place since we had gone there earlier and had liked the taste of Dosa. The Dosa was tasty this time also, but the service was very poor. There is only one person serving around 10 tables and the food arrived late. Moreover, The serving person forgot to provide supplementary items (Chutney and water) in spite of waiting for long. Further, the desert was not available though it was written on the menu. All this spoiled our evening. On the last occasion also we had to wait at least half an hour for the coffee ordered after the meal. The owner better keep at least 2 persons to serve otherwise he is sure to loose his repeat customers.

Ram has great service and takes a lot of pride in his restaurant. He is very accommodating to vegan customers like myself and makes sure there is no meat, dairy or eggs in my food. Highly recommended!

I've eaten dosas all over the world. These guys are really good. Appetizers and curries also excellent

Went there for lunch hoping to use our entertainment book coupon which there were no day restrictions but was refuse to accept because they posted a small hand written sign in front of the door which was barely noticeable. This is totally unacceptable and very poor public relations. The dosa is ok
