This is the type of dining experience I had reluctantly come to believe was only happening in other, bigger and trendier towns. That is in no way a dig at Springfield. I love this city, but I'd gotten a bit bored eating here lately. Yes, I understand how absurd that seems. Oh well.
Anyway, this place serves fresh, local food that is carefully prepared by people who care about the integrity of the dish and your experience while enjoying it. Sure, they're in business to make money, but I get a real sense that they truly want to provide a unique and thoughtful meal.
Now, "unique and thoughtful" isn't meant to imply "overly-trendy and inaccessible." There are some fresh new takes on the menu, but everything we got ("Le Jardin" sandwich with arugula, tomatoes, Havarti, and garlic aioli and the cheese board for two with very high quality cheeses-both savory and sweet, bread from Artisan Oven, raisins?, mango fruit leather, cashews, apple butter, spicy mustard, garlic aioli, and olives) felt comforting and homey while simultaneously making us feel like we were back in the Italian countryside where we spent two weeks last summer.
They have a large variety of soda, beer, and wine that will expand your horizons regarding each of those beverages while quenching your thirst too.
From the small mom-and-pop ambience, to the lovely patio dining, to the shockingly good food (that sandwich was so simple, but such a perfect agreement of complimentary flavors), I cannot say enough good things about this place. It's my new nice afternoon go-to. I'll see you there.
