"Known as JJ Market to most locals (the official name, Chatuchak, is pronounced with a J sound), this is the granddaddy of all markets: With 15,000 stalls, it's among the largest outdoor markets in the world. Everything is buyable, from practical stuff like home décor, art, clothing, accessories, and cooking equipment, to trinkets and oddities like knock-off Nikes and Beats by Dre, iPhone covers, and—yes—even live animals. Despite its sheer size, though, the market is very well organized, with goods arranged by type and a large map posted near the entrance. There are water vendors, ATMS, and food stalls galore, so the only thing you’ll need to bring is small bills, sunscreen, comfortable clothes, and bargaining skills. At the end of the day, grab an excellent mojito garnished with gobs of fresh mint and a sugarcane stick at Viva 8, a funky little bar where DJs spin house in the evenings." - Diana Hubbell, Katie Lockhart

"Thailand's Ultimate Outdoor Shopping Experience The mother of unique Bangkok retail experiences is undoubtedly Chatuchak Weekend Market, Thailand ’s largest outdoor bazaar. Known as Jatujak or simply JJ, it has15,000 stalls spread over 35 acres andsells almost everything under the sun. This is the place to buy a Beatles cushion or shopfor a new pet cobra or a hand-carved Buddha icon. With 200,000 people descending on the market every weekend, it's best to come early, and perseverance can uncover a veritable treasure trove of collectibles ranging from beautiful ceramics and handicrafts to exquisite jewelry."

A lively and diverse shopping destination that offers a bit of everything. With around 15,000 stalls spread across 27 sections, it’s easy to spend a few hours exploring without even realizing it. The market offers a wide variety of items, including clothes, accessories, home décor, plants, antiques, handmade crafts, books, and even pets. The food options are also a highlight, there’s plenty of delicious street food like grilled skewers, Thai iced tea, coconut ice cream, and mango sticky rice. Prices are generally affordable, and bargaining is expected, which adds to the experience. What I liked most was the mix of traditional Thai items and unique finds that make for great souvenirs. However, it can get very hot and crowded, especially in the middle of the day, and the layout can be a bit confusing for first time visitors, with limited signage. Despite that, it’s definitely worth a visit. It’s recommended to go early, wear comfortable shoes, and bring cash, as not all stalls accept cards and if they do, a 3% service charge is often added. Overall, it’s a fun way to experience the city’s culture and local flavors in one place.

Go there and spend a day! Make sure you carry cash as most of the shops don't take cards. Make sure to carry some large (or big) shopping bag(s) because I am sure you will ended up shopping a lot. Also a lot of cute cafes and restaurants there

This area offers a good variety of shops. We tried the fresh orange juice and it was absolutely delicious and refreshing. But I had a concerning experience at the lunch place right by the gate. I noticed that there were no prices listed on the menu. This is quite unusual, as I understand Thai law requires prices to be clearly visible. I strongly advise everyone to ask for the price of each item before ordering to avoid any potential overcharging. Even as a Thai person, I had an issue. After we had paid the initial bill (which was calculated at our table and confirmed before payment), they called us back a few minutes later, claiming they had miscalculated and needed to charge extra for a fried egg. While I paid it, this was a very strange and unprofessional way to handle things, especially after the total was already agreed upon. Just be cautious when ordering food here.

Another popular tourist destination that only opens on weekends. Since it's popular on YouTube, it attracts lots of tourists. The outside area is filled with numerous clothing shops, and you can find food stalls among them as well. There's also a plaza. Inside the plaza, you'll find a food court and more shops. We visited in April, and it was hot, so it's a good idea to bring a water bottle with you. This is a particularly good place if you're interested in buying antiques and souvenirs.

I loved it. The aisles go on and on and on and on. With hundreds of stalls and small shops. Plenty of shopping and variety of options to choose from. They have street food as well and please don’t pass up the many items to try. If you are a flea market kind of person like I am, you will love this place. You have to try it at least once. I walked around d for almost 6 hours ( had some street food and a foot massage as well)

My Personal Review of Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok Where everything whispers a story—from souvenirs to street food. If you ask me what chaos, color, and charm look like all in one place, I’ll point you to Chatuchak Weekend Market—a Bangkok legend that truly lives up to its name. From the moment you walk in, you're swept into a maze of over 15,000 stalls, where everything is available: 🍢 Food? From grilled skewers and coconut ice cream to pad thai and mango sticky rice, it’s a feast just walking through. 👕 Clothing? Whether you're hunting for local fashion, vintage pieces, or breezy Thai cotton shirts, there's something for every style and size. 🐶 Pets & Plants? Yes—Chatuchak has entire zones dedicated to adorable animals and exotic plants. 🎁 Souvenirs? Handwoven bags, wood carvings, Thai herbal balms, elephant pants, and more. 🧳 Customized Leather Goods? I found stalls that make passport covers, laptop sleeves, and wallets with initials or logos engraved right there. It’s thoughtful, personal, and budget-friendly. The market is huge, but part of the fun is getting a little lost. Each section has its own vibe—antiques, art, ceramics, books, even home décor. I ended up spending hours there without realizing it. ✨ What I Loved Most: The friendly vendors—they’re happy to chat or help you try things on. The hidden gems—a small stall selling handmade soap shaped like flowers caught my eye. The mix of local and tourist culture—you'll hear Thai, English, Chinese, and more blending in the air like the smell of grilled meat and incense. 🌿 Tips from Me: Go early (around 10 AM) to avoid the afternoon heat and big crowds. Wear comfy shoes—you’ll walk a lot! Bring cash. Some shops take QR payment, but many still prefer Thai baht. Stay hydrated—grab a coconut or a Thai tea on the go. Final Thoughts: Chatuchak isn’t just a market—it’s an experience. Whether you're on the hunt for something specific or just want to absorb the buzzing life of Bangkok, it's one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. I left with a tote full of treasures and a heart full of little moments.

The best of the street markets in Thailand, though I know those who love Chinatown may disagree with me. Such a well laid out plan that it makes it easier to focus your attention where you want to shop. Beautifully, none of the shopkeepers were pushy or invasive. If you see my review of Pratunum, you'll understand why I appreciate it so much. However short on time you are, don't miss the air conditioned section of the market at the interior. It has some great shops and good deals. Right outside it are the food stalls so you can combine that.

Really a shopping and eating haven! It has changed quite a bit since the last time I came. It is not so cluttered and crowded (even on a Saturday morning) and the stuffs are no longer all the same. There are some boutiques and all, that sell really upmarket interesting stuffs eg scents, leather shoes, etc. I really like the market and there are many eateries ard. Some places have air con even. Note that it’s “centralised” toilet though. Will def come and shop when I’m back!
