Walking down Queen Street towards Eagle Street, you’ll notice an illuminated glass box filled with dry-aging ducks. It’s a sight more common in Chinatown or the streets of Hong Kong than in the Brisbane CBD but, at Central, it sets the tone for what’s to come. Descend a moody concrete staircase, and you’ll find yourself in a hidden cave-like space surrounded by 150-year-old rock walls. The basement restaurant is the newest venue from the Rick Shores and Southside team. Native Hong Konger Benny Lam is executive chef. He’s serving surprising takes on Hong Kong classics, like pineapple buns filled with crispy prosciutto and smoked butter, and fried dough served with smoked foie gras and Davidson’s plum jus. Other dishes include Wagyu beef tartare in a fermented soybean sauce and drunken chicken. There’s dim sum, of course, and larger dishes include wok-fried lobster noodles, triple-cooked Wagyu short rib, and roast duck with lilly pilly plum sauce.

We celebrated our anniversary at Central and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The Night Fever cocktail was light and floral, the perfect start to a beautiful evening. The Wagyu Beef Tartare, dim sum, and pork buns were delicate and delicious, but the highlight was the Dry Aged Black Angus tender, rich, and full of flavour. Impeccable service and a warm, elegant atmosphere made it an unforgettable night.

I genuinely don’t know where to start. Everything from start to finish was exceptional. The service was amazing especially our waitress! We ordered the executive banquet and I couldn’t recommend it more, every single dish that came out left my partner and I stunned the food was phenomenal. Every single thing down to the steamed vegetables had so much flavour. The drinks were delicious and everything was worth every bit of money! It was my partners birthday and our lovely waitress brought out a treat to end the night and I couldn’t recommend this place enough. I would be here every night if I could!

An amazing meal, celebrating a birthday. The team (Olivia?) did a great job acknowledging the birthday girl and making her feel special. They noted some special instructors I asked for when I booked. The meal was amazing, the mushroom dumplings and the duck were standouts. Great wine selection. Love this place - highly recommend!!!

Outstanding food and friendly, knowledgeable service. Olivia gave friendly advice and was extremely attentive to our needs. The cocktails were delicious and someone came over to discuss types of Mezcal - which went beautifully with the food. Really loved the interior too! Choose a seat overlooking the chefs at work.

Where to start… for me it’s mid. The great things: -Le labo candles and handwash -unique interior -quick service and they have lots of df and gf options Can be improved: -music. I expected a more cultural sensory experience. The moody interior and light didnt match the background music. It diminisbed the lux experience. I felt i was in a canteen. Maybe play some jazz or blues cantonese or chinese music -the LED ceiling lights are great when looking at photos from a 3rd person perspective. However being there in person still feels too bright. Like youre in an office or hospital. Maybe dim the lights more or change the led colours to a more amber colour for a more intimate feel. Also draw the curtains as it feels weird if customers draw the curtains themselves -the food doesnt taste phenomenal for the price u pay. I had better dumplings at shopping malls in China. Food altogether is overpriced for how it’s presented. The tables arent even either. Maybe get artisanal tables with darker colour since the plates you use are white.

A world class experience. Visually stunning as you enter the space. Service staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The open kitchen is awesome to behold. The food is all so delicious, making it too difficult to pick a favourite dish. The canton martini was the perfect start to the meal. Every wine we had was the perfect match for what we ate. Can’t wait to go back to central. Brisbane is lucky to have Central!

Firstly Google takes you to street number 344 so beware that the actual address is 340 Queen St. The building facade is black and has the name Piccadilly picked out in gold metal letters. To the left is the stairway down to the restaurant but if you are unable to negotiate stairs then go right for the lift down to the basement. It's an ultra cool space lined with old sandstone walls. The seating is deceptively simple. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. We actually arrived a bit late for the lunch sitting but Lachie, our maitre d, looked after us speaking to the kitchen and we were able to order from the snack and dim sum parts of the menu. Our order was for pork siu mai, duck pot stickers and the classic Xiao long bao. It was easy to tell that these dim sum were made in premises-the pork in the siu Mai actually had a crunchy texture like good fresh prawns do. Each one of our choices was excellent. By the way make sure to book. We would gladly return to Central next time we are in Brisbane and will be recommending it to friends.

Very delightful venue, top quality, great produce, good wine pairing and top of line service from Jordan. Well done to front of line and all kitchen staff.
