It is a Oaxaca institution, and besides reliably tasty food, you can also expect a lovely atmosphere and seamless service. You can pick a spot in one of the indoor dining areas, or in the lovely back courtyard next to the fountain. The menu at La Catedral is extensive and includes Oaxacan specialties such as mole negro and mole amarillo, as well as chiles rellenos and sopa de guias (soup made with zucchini shoots), but my favorite dish is the huitlacoche crepes. The customer service was excellent. When we got there we were immediately greeted and asked where we wanted to sit (inside or outside). The waiters gave great details how the food was made and ingredients. You can't go wrong with any of the food and deserts. Thier tortillas are freshly made as well. They have restrooms in the second floor FYI. The atmosphere is very nice. Their drinks have great taste and it's always good to end food with a coffee and desert. I really recommend coming here. It is one block away from el centro, so after eating you can go walk.

The restaurant was fantastic, with delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. The lively ambiance was enhanced by the addition of live music. I tried the hibiscus spicy margarita, which was on the sweet side, and also sampled the incredible guava margarita. They even brought complimentary Jalapeños to the table, which were delightfully spicy and added an extra kick to the experience. As an appetizer, we enjoyed a tamal, which was good but didn't quite have the wow factor. However, the tlayudas we ordered for our main course were absolutely amazing. The live music created an incredible atmosphere and added to the overall experience.

This is the standard restaurant that all the tourists come to after a long day of shopping and sight seeing. And for good reason, the location is perfect next to the Zocalo and the patio is lovely. The food is very good, creative and plentiful. I had sea bass in squash blossom sauce with zetas and chili oil. Very nice.

Ordered the enmolada with chicken. The mole and chicken was lacking a strong flavor. It didn’t pop..tasted a slightly watered down mole. It’s what I expect of a restaurant that charges half this price but not 240 pesos value. The WiFi didn’t work either. The service was not good — I have to go out of my way to get their attention. Not what expected from a higher end restaurant. The atmosphere was great though as was the location.

Food was amazing, atmosphere too. Service could have been more friendly. We ordered the fish on Flor de calabaza pure, the shrimp tacos and the quesillo asado salad. Also the hibiscus cheesecake.

An absolutely delicious meal in a gorgeous setting, and there was even live music. The food was creative without being overwrought, and each bite was a treat. Add on top of all that the fact that it cost easily half or less than what a comparable meal in the states would charge. $118 USD for dinner/drinks/dessert for 2, all in an elegant setting.

We came to eat here on our first night in Oaxaca and every thing was excellent. The chapulines were delicious, the short beef rib with mole was delicious! The drinks were good, not so much the tequila cocktails but Oaxaca doesn’t specialize in tequila.

Decent but unremarkable and overpriced Oaxacan cuisine served in small portions, in a rather dull ambience. I had a mole plate, among other things, which was ok but not exceptional. Service is good.
