"Visiting the Pope's Parish Up until recently, the Catedral Metropolitana was famous for a few things - the rococo altar, the Christ statue carved from algarrobo (carob) wood, the fact that it's the final resting place of the great South American liberator General Jose de San Martin. Lately the city cathedral has made headlines for something bigger - it's the parish of the former Archbishop of Buenos Aires , Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now known as Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope in history. Stop in to admire the beautiful baroque interior - and while you're here, picture the throngs of proud Argentinians who crowded into the nave on the day Bergoglio was chosen as the next pope."

The beautiful church and the Pope's home church in Buenos Aires left me in awe. Stepping inside was a humbling experience, as the serene atmosphere and stunning architecture enveloped me. The intricate details of the stained-glass windows and the exquisite craftsmanship of the altar created a sense of peace and reverence that is hard to describe. It felt like a sacred space, rich with history and spirituality.

I'm far from being a church-going guy, but I do appreciate the architecture and grandeur of these places of worship.
If you're visiting Casa Rosada, you must make the short walk across the street to this church which was completed in 1791 and was the former place of worship for the current Pope Fracis. The church was rebuilt several times which probably explains its mixed style of architecture. The exterior doesn't look like a traditional church at all, but as you enter, the beautiful mosaic floors give way to an impressive interior. The nave is tall and grand with unornamented ceilings decorated with just a few frescos. There are quite a few sculptures, altarpieces, and even a mausoleum inside.
Entry is free and crowds were minimal.

The church is beautiful and has free admission. Pope Francis was the Archbishop of Buenos Aires for 15 years. He used to hold mass at this cathedral before moving to the Vatican in 2013.

Beautiful and modern church. Its façade looks like a museum, different than the average. In front of the Plaza de Mayo, is easy to access by taxis, Uber, and public transportation. This beautiful church was also the home of Jorge Bergoglio, the Pope Francis.

(Visited in Aug. 2022) | Didn't really have the chance to go inside, but even from just looking the outside, it's quite impressive. The architecture is beautiful and really stands out.

Not the usual looking Cathedral from the outside, but very nice and peaceful inside.

A bit touristy with annoying people taking photos and selfies who are not a Level 9 on Google Maps, or a YouTuber with lots of subscribers, or a legend on Instagram with thousands of followers.
