"The Engadin is also where the multidisciplinary artist Not Vital has his foundation, including the 17th-century Planta house in Ardez, with its library of historic Rumantsch writings, as well as a painting studio and sculpture park in the mountain village of Sent, his birthplace. Meanwhile, he calls a ca.-1040 castle in Tarasp home (when he’s not in Beijing or Rio de Janeiro, that is); it also houses and sometimes exhibits his collection of antique, Modern, and contemporary art, along with works from artists near and far. They are all worth visiting (note: you’ll need to book tours of the castle and the Planta house)."

I haven’t been inside (yet), but even the surroundings are already worth the visit. The architecture is impressive, and there’s beautiful art displayed outside the building, which gives the whole area a special atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back and explore the inside next time!

It is a very nice castle where medieval and modern art coexist in a very harmonic way. It offers an awesome view on the valley too. I recommend to book the guided tour as this is the only way to visit it. Inside the castle is not allowed to take pictures.

My best advice is: just go to the gate and take a look at the valley from the vanatage point. This tartarian fortification is now owned by an imposter who claims to be an artist. He forces the unwitting public to look at his production set in a decor from another era when art was an armonious creation. 10 minutes only speak about the astronot kindergarten drawing. Other precious 20 minutes losts in cold uninteresting spaces beating around the bush about nulitties but in a very serious and dignified manner as of that can pass for art. The guide speaks only about the things nobody cares for and not a word about the magnificent edifice and the people that errected it. All that is beautiful, ancient and actually the purpose of anybody who choses to visist a medieval fortress, is only shown at hogh speed at the indication of the guide, claiming “no time” But for the 108 wholes explenation there is plenty of time. Or the already said astronot. What a disputeful manner of treating visitors! Also shown in 15 minutes delay with which the tour started ( swiss clock punctuality has long passed away)

Imposing, very well preserved and maintained castle, private property now. Visits only twice per day, with a group; entrance fee.

We expected something old with lots of antique objects. But in 2016 the castle was bought by a Swiss artist so you can also see modern art in there. It’s not just an old castle

Tarasp Castle stands out in this majestic landscape of the Swiss Alps. Originally built in the 10th century, the high-altitude castle has been expanded over the years. Tarasp was abandoned in 1815, and like many other castles, it began to fall into disrepair. But it was saved by skilled restorers, and after more than a century of renovation, Tarasp Castle is now a cultural heritage site of national importance.
