Yelp
Carl OG3 Burger Shop. What an odd name. It's a take on Japanese language pronunciation. Owner of this new burger restaurant is Carl, affectionately known as "Uncle Carl." In Japanese, when you pronounce OG3, it will sound like "ojisan," with the number 3 pronounced as "san." Ojisan means "uncle" in Japanese.
And then the restaurant's logo of a caricature of a woman with horns, what is all that about? Apparently, Uncle Carl loves to dress up for Halloween, and this is one of his costumes. Lol, this Uncle Carl must be an interesting character!
Uncle Carl's soft opening of this burger shop was on 5/3/23 and is still currently in its soft opening stage. I saw a segment of Cheap Eats with Guy Hagi and Ashley Nagaoka visiting this shop, which motivated me to try out the burgers.
The menu is very simple with only three options of smash burgers:
* The One. Snake River Farms 100% (known for their gourmet meats) premium American wagyu beef, tomato bacon jam, blue cheese, American cheese, onions, jalapenos, special sauce.
* Kaheka Smash. Blend of grass-fed beef and spicy Portuguese sausage topped with onions and yellow mustard.
* Classic Cheeseburger. Grass-fed beef, pickles, onions, special sauce.
I envision that the burger menu may be expanded. Uncle Carl also plans to offer Japanese yakiniku at night this coming June.
We had the following via dine-in:
* Kaheka Smash. This was delicious, as the burger had crisp edges and was very flavorful served in a brioche-like bun. The burger didn't taste spicy from the Portuguese sausage, though. Loved the chopped onions with the creamy yellow mustard sauce!
* Classic Cheeseburger. Again, crisp edges and a flavorful smash burger enhanced by chopped onions and a special sauce containing mayonnaise and mustard. As with the Kaheka Smash, the burger was larger than the bun and was served on a black/white checkerboard paper in a plastic basket. A knife was requested so that we could cut the burgers in half.
* French Fries. We really enjoyed the crinkle-cut fries, as they were temperature hot, crispy on the outside, fluffy soft in the inside, and perfectly salted. So good eating them hot, and one of the best fries around!
Service was satisfactory, considering there were only a few people dining in during the off-peak hours; however, I would imagine there would be a long wait during peak times. Our server promptly took our order, served our burgers, refilled our water cups, and timely processed our bill, all with a smile.
The restaurant is in the former New Shillawon Korean Restaurant in the residential Pacific Grand Condo. The interior is the same former restaurant and needs updating. All tables have the yakiniku stoves, which allows for planned yakiniku offerings in the near future. The restaurant is spacious and seats about 60.
Hours of operation are supposedly 10a to 6p Mon to Sat, and Sun closed. However, under the present soft opening, their hours are not consistent. You'll have to check their Instagram (@carl_og3_ojisan) for updated hours.
Free underground parking is available in the building. As you drive down the ramp, parking is on the left. Look for the sign "Korean Restaurant parking" which hasn't been updated to reflect this new restaurant. After parking, walk out of the garage to the street level and walk up a flight of stairs to the restaurant on the left.
Looking forward to trying "The One" and having those amazing fries again! Thank you, Carl OG3, for your creativeness in these awesome smash burgers and can't wait for your yakiniku plans!
