"How did it strike you on arrival? In the shadow of the impressively long Astoria-Megler bridge (the longest continuous truss bridge in the United States), The Cannery stretches out on a pier along the Columbia River. Clad in brick-red metal siding and looking not too dissimilar from the old cannery it replaced, the hotel doesn’t earn points for curb appeal. But you’ll soon forget that once you walk in and see the comfortable lounge, with its cozy couches, fireplace, and two-story floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the deck and busy river below. Survey the crowd—who's here?If you’ve arrived in time for Wine & Lox, which is served in the lounge from 5 to 6 pm nightly, you’ll likely see the rest of the hotel guests lining up to fill up their glasses. Most will be well-to-do Boomers and well-heeled international tourists, since this is the most luxe hotel in town. How was check in? Check in at the small, simple two-person desk right when you walk through the door. The rooms are analog enough to make it very easy to feel at home. And the rooms?Low-tech rooms feature decor firmly planted in the late 1990s, but they’re plush in their own way. Each has a gas fireplace, view of the river, and balcony where you can sit and watch the container ships and pilot boats go by. You can even watch the river action from the shower and tub, thanks to some pretty smart bathroom design. If you travel with your pup, book a dog-friendly room. If you travel with kids, or maybe your aging parents, book the Pilot House on the fifth floor, which has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. Did any details stand out to you?The rooms at the Cannery Pier are all about the Columbia River view, offering a window seat or easy chair, couch, and little balcony so you can sit and enjoy it all day long. If the breeze gets too chilly while you’re outside, wrap yourself in the room’s Pendleton throw. Wifi is free and fast. What's the coffee, food, and drink scene like? The wet bar has a Keurig-style coffee maker and real half-and-half in the mini-fridge instead of the usual gross powdery stuff. There’s no onsite restaurant or bar, but you can partake of the free continental breakfast, which includes hot items like breakfast burritos and waffles. Or just grab one of the pastries, hop on one of the free day-use cruiser bikes, and head to a nearby cafe. If you time it right, you can hop on the Astoria Trolley, which runs along the river. In the evening, the hotel’s driver to take you to one of the restaurants or bars in town; you’ll arrive in style in one of a rotating cast of vintage cars. But before you go, stop by the lounge for free wine, cheese, and smoked salmon from 5 to 6 p.m. nightly. What other features should we know about?A small gym room overlooks the river, which makes fitting in a workout a little less painful. Book a massage, facial or body wrap in the spa, take a dip in the saline hot tub, or warm your bones in the Finnish sauna, a nod to Astoria’s Finnish fishermen heritage. What's the bottom line? You’ve come to Astoria to watch the river, and there’s no better place to do it than here. Add in really comfy beds, fluffy towels and robes, and a gas fireplace, and you've got the coziest perch in town." - Danielle Centoni

"Party on the Pier The Cannery Pier Hotel is a delightful property in the old cannery district on the Columbia River waterfront in Astoria. The 360-degree feel of the water makes a stay at the Pier more like a luxury cruise line port of call. The views are bound to engulf guests, but the service and hotel amenities are also sure to please. Staff are sharp and engaging, while rooms are spotless and nicely appointed. One bonus is the private cab service to shuttle guests to some of the local sites. They're prompt and courteous, giving guests access to a revived Astoria tourist trade. A spa package is also available to help get the kinks out. One highlight on the local restaurant scene, the Bridgewater Bistro, is just a short walk across the pier and highly recommended. The hotel hosts a wine and cheese tasting and offer a continental breakfast to start your day. When the weather is right, check out one of the beach cruiser bikes and ride into town for a little two-wheeled exploring. All part of a complete service environment. The Pier provides a wonderful home base to explore the terminus of the Lewis and Clark Trail, while being pampered in a welcoming NW outpost."

What a beautiful hotel!!! We stayed here over the New Years holiday with our family and friends and had the BEST time. The rooms were spacious, modern, clean, and quiet. The staff was incredibly nice. We loved the bar and the live music on the balcony as well as the celebration at midnight. My son, who is as absolute car nut, has not stopped talking about the ride in the Rolls Royce. Seriously! We will be recommending this hotel to all of our friends and family. Cookies..... Every night at 7.... I mean, come on!!! I almost forgot to mention that they are dog friendly!

Wow, what a nice hotel! The views from the corner suites make you feel like you’re onboard a ship. The spa was very enjoyable for my wife and daughter in law. A 1959 Rolls Royce is used as the hotel shuttle which was very fun! A worthy splurge!

An amazing hotel and experience. Perfect for a weekend getaway with my wife. The rooms are super nice with an incredible view of the Columbia river and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. We indulged in a couples massage and my wife also had a facial. It was the perfect simple relaxing weekend.

What an absolutely amazing hotel. I often feel like nice or high-end hotels disappoint when you see them in person. This one does not! The room was the most comfortable hotel room I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. The view is incredible, particularly when you have the opportunity to see massive ships sail right by your window. The layout of the room is comfortable to actually spend time in, work if needed, or just relax. The spa-like bathroom was a true treat. The bathtub was the largest bathtub I’ve ever seen and you can enjoy the view of the water from the tub. The gas fireplace made the fall days feel extra cozy. Besides the luxury feel and amenities, the staff were also warm and helpful throughout my stay. Take a ride if you get the chance in the complimentary car service in their classic Rolls Royce! I will absolutely return when I have the chance and will be recommending to friends and family for a special getaway!

My husband and I checked in yesterday. Friendly front desk person, Kimberly checked us in and gave us a lot of information. We are locals, but appreciated it, nevertheless. Coffee, water, tea is available downstairs. They have a store to purchase snacks, and a bar that opens at 4. Everything is extremely clean, beautiful tables, comfortable chairs in the dining areas. Our room was so luxurious! Huge king bed, refrigerator, sink, roomy closet for clothes, binoculars, water carafe, Tea, and coffee in our room. The bathroom was just as beautiful, with a huge claw foot tub, rain shower and all toiletries. We had a ship schedule of the ships coming by.. we ran out to take pictures. We had a wonderful evening with a beautiful sunset, and warm cookies. This morning we had a gorgeous sunrise.. and a scrumptious breakfast, that paled any hotel breakfast we have had. Omelette station, delicious hot choices, and fruit and beverages. We didn’t want to leave! We will be back!!

For some reason Google Maps says this is a 3 star hotel. It is a 4 to 5 star hotel, and the rates reflect this. Great location right on the river. You can watch sea-going ships pass by a few hundred feet from your room. The bar downstairs is warm and cozy. Rooms are very nice and modern with attractive decor. They have a free chauffeur service to downtown restaurants and bars. We will definitely be back next visit to Astoria.

Excellent hotel at the end of the Pier, sticking out into the river. Each room has a balcony and beautiful view of the river and bridge. The employees were all very nice and accommodating. My room (pilot suite) had a full fridge, oven, stove, microwave, gourmet coffee, water bottles, and daily cleaning service. Nicely appointed toiletries in the bathroom, including bath salts to use in the soaking tub. The hotel has a nice bar downstairs with sweeping views and lots of natural light. Free parking just outside. Safe and private. Overall, it was a great experience at a nicely run, very clean, unique hotel.
