"Scudieri Cafe in Florence One of the mythological places in Florence is Scudieri cafe in Piazza di San Giovanni. Long marble bar and a lot of people around it having their espresso or cold cream coffee. Highly recommended! Their selection is great."

Breakfast here has a good mix of locals and tourists. Pay first, then order, the system is not that efficient, you may wait a bit. The interior takes you back half a century or more, attention to detail in the display of pastries and plates a cups. Conviniently located in front of the Doumo and I was pleasantly surprised with the bill being much less than expected!

At Cafe Scudieri in Florence, breakfast is a delightful experience that tantalizes the senses. The aroma of freshly baked pastries fills the air, while their flaky croissants melt in your mouth, perfectly complemented by a rich, velvety cappuccino. With its creamy foam art and a sprinkle of cocoa on top, each sip offers a comforting warmth that pairs beautifully with the delicious morning fare. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make it the perfect spot to savor the simple joys of breakfast in this enchanting city overlooking the duomo.

We stopped here for a breakfast and had 2 espressos and 2 croissants, which cost us near 18 euros. While the bar has a beautiful view and the staff were very polite, the prices were surprisingly high—even compared to other tourist cities similar items usually cost in Pisa around 5 euros or Milan around 10 euros, A lovely spot, but be prepared to pay a premium for the location.

Google
A café with a great location and view, right across from the Duomo. The food options were decent, though not outstanding. However, we were very disappointed to be charged nearly double the listed prices simply because we chose to sit at a table. No one warned us about this price difference — not the staff, nor any visible signage. While I’ve encountered this kind of pricing in Italy before, there was always a clear notice or someone informing customers. Here, the extra charge was applied without any warning, which left a bad impression.

Google
Had a very nice sit down breakfast here and then took some pastries to go. This has the best selection I've seen in Florence and the breakfast was great. My favorite breakfast we had all 2 weeks in Italy.

Google
Nice views of duomo while you eat. Food was good but wait staff was very disappointing. Took forever to get order in and when asked questions felt we were inconveniencing them. My friend can not eat pork so she ordered a turkey sandwich. When it came it was ham. We tried to explain but they insisted it was turkey so she just took the meat off and ate it without. Cafe latte was good too.

Nice place I stayed there for coffee, sweets, and ice cream. The service was good and good help from the waiter. The location is very good. The quality of food wasnot bad at all.

Awesome location directly next to Duomo!! Interior & exterior dining as well as to-go. Pastries & sandwiches were magnificent!!

Yelp
Serving Florence since 1939 Caffé Scudieri is an institution, its unparalleled vantage of Piazza del Duomo pairing with professional service and an interior that defines luxury through crystal, leather and marble. Located at the corner of Via dei Cerretani with early hours, many opting for an Espresso and Cornetto to go, it is inside that a selection of Pastries resides behind glass ranging from Frittelle filled with Custard to Ham and Cheese on Viennoserie. Pulling shots fast, a complex roast with notes of Caramel, fans of Zeppoli will find Scudieri's a textural masterpiece with restrained sweetness while the Torta della Nonna arrives rustic and sizable with a hint of Citrus atop the Shortbread Crust. Also offering proper plates and Pasta later, both traditional and centered on tourists, Cornetti come with or without Crema and the Budino di Riso is exceptional thanks to a gently tanned skin with luscious Rice Pudding beneath.

Yelp
We loved the burrata and fresh tomato antipasti. The Aperol spritz was also delicious. I tried the squid ink pasta ... it was ok. I do not recommend the burger it was not edible. That's what she gets for ordering a burger in Italy I suppose!

Yelp
In a touristy part of town, I wasn't expecting much, but service here was the slowest I have ever experienced in Italy. I stopped by in early morning and there wasn't even that many customers. I was never acknowledged until I flagged a staff down (1 star off). They finally gave me a table after a curt exchange (1 star off) and it took another 15 minutes for a menu (1 star off). I just wanted a cup of cappuccino, but no one came by to take my order (1 star off), so I just ended up leaving.

Yelp
Great location in front of Duomo. Cafe macchiato, hot chocolate, crescent were great.

Yelp
We just popped in here as part of the Duomo morning tour. Light pastry and coffee. Very nice staff and the best croissant.

Yelp
So I've walked past this spot several times and decided to give it a try. The Moscow Mules were pretty good and you can't beat looking at the Baptistery. I also decided to have a pizza(I've been avoiding them). It was delicious and I choose not to eat the crust, so they made cutting it up a little interesting. FYSA, your pizza won't be sliced in Italy. When it came time to pay I thought I was going to have to act the fool. There were two charges on there that were not mine, but as I approached the waiter he noted the mistake and corrected it(danger averted). It's a nice cafe on the main square and should be paid a visit if in Florence.

Yelp
Great place for a cappuccino and a pistachio croissant. And even better for people watching.

Yelp
The food was very good. The fruit tart was my favorite in the morning! If you are looking for a more quiet place, this is not for you. The location is on a busy corner leading to the cathedral. The place was busy so the service was not the best, especially since we were quite hungry.

Yelp
Now more than Ever, The beautiful country of Italy needs a little love sent their way... A country surrounded by historical landmarks, magnificent monuments and endless beauty at every corner, It is truly heartbreaking to see the tragic loss they are currently going through. Please Pray for Italy & the rest of the world as we face this horrific Pandemic together. ---------------------------------------------------- For me, it was a dream come true as I experienced Italy for the first time back in Twenty 16'. Of course, Italy is known for its famous "must see" sights such as the leaning tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain & the Grand Canal in Venice and trust me we knocked those off our bucket list, but the real Magic of Italy is their classic food dishes, their decadent desserts, their excellent espresso, & of course their wonderful wines. We literally ate every chance we got and Cafeè Scudieri in Firenze (Florence) was no exception to the rule. During our morning jaunt, we headed to the Piazza Del Duomo, the most visited sight in Florence. After going inside and absorbing all of its architectural beauty on the outside, we decided it was time to grab a snack. One of the greatest things about Italy is it's never too late to have an espresso and there is absolutely zero judgement if you decide to order it with a side of tiramisu. Just moments from the Duomo, a classy Cafeè Scudieri awaits your presence. Whether you are looking for a small pastry and cappuccino or even a light continental breakfast, they are a quick stop to grab a bite before going sightseeing around Tuscany. Despite the fine China used, the staff dressed to the nines and the elegant Chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, the prices were actually very reasonable considering it being in such touristy part of town. Open since 1939, I can see why this little spot is still in business.

Yelp
It's location is the best, but service is totally awful and disappointing. My order was taken by a very rude man, shouldn't be working in this industry. Ordered coffee (Americano) and pastry, only my coffee made it to my table, the staff keeps just talking among themselves in total disregard of their guests. Finally I was able to talk to one of them and my pastry came. I would exclude 2 staff members. Coffee was not good, neither the pastry. I would recommend to find another place.

Yelp
Asked to sit outside for breakfast and they said yes. After sitting and waiting over 10 minutes, nobody ever brought menus and then when they did, they told us we could not have outside drinks which was only a water bottle we had. Server was rude and in Italian telling other people we disrespected them by moving 2 tables together after hostess told us we could so we could sit 4. Horrible service. Don't waste your money here. Looks nice from the outside but that is it. Go somewhere better to spend your money.
google avatar

Yelp
Had drinks and dessert here and it was a nice experience. The seating here is beautiful, and the service was terrific. So many high end dessert selections! The cheesecake has a slight lemon taste to it, which made it very unique.
google avatar

Yelp
The staff were very rude, and the tea was cold. I would not recommend this place. It's also very loud if you're not into that.

Yelp
Well I made the rookie mistake of asking to sit down at an Italian coffeeshop where you'll get charged 5x versus standing at the bar. My husband was off shopping at the leather market, so I hung out here for 30 minutes, reading and drinking an espresso. The espresso was ok. The highlight of Scudieri is really all the sweets in the window that kids will walk by and beg their parents to buy. Whether you're seated or just picking up sweets, everyone pays at the counter at the entrance. The leisurely pace grew on me. This isn't better or worse than any other café in Florence I visited, but perhaps I need to grab some candies next time for it to have been worth my while. Otherwise €5 espresso is just okay. Seriously though, don't sit at the tables unless you need to.

Thirumaran R.

Yelp
Bad service. We ordered scrambled omelette breakfast. Waiter came back with egg whites. When asked, in his bad English he said it is all the same. Egg whites for him is simply separating egg whites from yolk. And they are all the same for him. Waiter speaks no English. And rushes to take orders. A BIG NO from me. First bad experience at a restaurant located in a popular spot.

Yelp
On a trip to italy and finished a tour at the Duomo. We decided to eat at this cafe and made a huge mistake! It took a while to get our menus but the hostess (tall blonde lady) was kind. Then our waitress (short young lady with blonde hair in pony tail) took our order, she was rude from the start. We let that go and then ordered our food. I was never given a napkin or utensils. So I figured, i would ask for a napkin...no big deal. I asked for a napkin when another waitress (reddish/maroon colored hair) gave us our food she then speaks to the young lady with blonde hair (in pony tail). The young blond lady with pony tail rolls her eyes and looks upset about my request for a napkin. Then time passes on and I finally get up from my seat to ask for a napkin and the two ladies (the younger blonde lady with hair in a pony tail and young lady with reddish/maroon hair and glassses) looked irritated, they both rolled their eyes and the young lady with reddish/maroon colored hair said "un poqquito." I'm really kind and always give tips. My only tip that I'm giving here today is: don't come here. I was surprised when we were met with rudeness the entire time. I was disappointed by this whole experience. Food was good but service is very poor. Management really needs to address this issue. This behavior is uncalled for, I wasnt asking for much...a napkin to use while I eat. No one should treat anyone this way. I've never had this kind of experience while here in Italy or even in the United States.

Yelp
You can't miss Cafe Scudieri, it's smack dab in Piazza Duomo with big picture windows filled with enticing treats of candies, torrone, chocolates and all the good things that are so bad for your waistline. Oh my! I got lured in by the display (of course!) and was wondering why there were so. many. PEOPLE! The lines are, well, there are no clear lines. People are just basically standing everywhere, but you order at the counter (take away? or eat in?) then pay at the cashier before you pick up your order. There are limited seating inside, but it's actually better to sit at a bench on the piazza while staring at the beautiful campanile or the surrounding neighborhood. We were looking forward to a big dinner so we just wanted something to snack on. The crustless panino con pollo was simply made with mayo and tomatoes. I really liked the strawberry-blueberry panna cotta, just the right amount of sweetness from the fruit and a semi-firm but smooth texture. Ahhh.... the simple things!

Yelp
This place was just around the corner from where we stayed, and we finally stopped in our last morning in Florence for cappuccinos and pastries. The woman at the register recommended her favorite rice cream filled pastry, which was delectable, as were the other pastries and cappuccinos! A lovely morning, and the pre-Easter window displays were beautiful.

Yelp
If you love Tiramisu, you MUST try it here! It costs €1,80 for a slice which is cheap. There are other goodies available here that are yummy. I believe if you stand they don't charge you an extra fee. Janice C. is right about their location. It's pretty easy to find and in the perfect location. They charge €0,50 to use the restroom, but there is a person who cleans it after every use. I would highly recommend this place is you love sweets.

Zoey M.

Yelp
Drinks were good but would not recommend due to their hospitality. My friend and I came as we are here in Florence doing study abroad. They treated us poorly and made us move spots not sure why. Then they took awhile to serve us and wouldn't bring us the water we had ordered so I had to ask after waiting 10 mins just for water. They wouldn't look at us and they were also not busy. They also took the menus from us right away and when they brought our drinks out they gave us the bill so we couldn't continue to order food. They also did bring out the free chips and snacks you get as an appetizer which they gave to everyone else.
google avatar

Angelica C.

Yelp
Rude staff, way overpriced pastries, and long wait. They do have a vast selection of desserts and sandwiches, which were mediocre at best. Coffee was great, but I needed it... so maybe that's why it was "great" Coffee is cheaper than water here. I wouldn't come back. There's other options in the area.

Batool M.

Yelp
This place are the worst service in Italy ! The food was horrible. They charged €2 per person ( cover charge ) to have lunch ! for what ??? Is it a club ??? We ordered dessert that was €6 they charged us €15 for it and when we asked they said that was the to go price but because you eat it here that's the price ! They even charged me €5 for hot water for my medication tea that I have. Bunch of thieves.
google avatar

Yelp
Being in Italy, I won't grade any restaurant/Coffee-Pastry shop based on customer service. That being said, I thought this was a prime location next to Duomo Di Firenze, with moderately priced coffee and sweets. If you appreciate fine China and Dinnerware with a great view, then this is the place for you.
google avatar

Yoojin S.

Yelp
Pastries! Sweets! Tiramisu! Coffee! Just don't sit down--that's where all the bad reviews are coming from! I mean, at any fancy-looking cafe in Florence, just don't sit down, or the prices will escalate. You're off doing an Italian breakfast with a caffe and a pastry standing-up at the bar, because you'll get set prices of what you see at the counter. And also, pastries--like a good ol' warm brioche (croissant) filled with nutella or pistachio cream (haven't seen much of these in other bakery cafe like this!)--the pastries are best in the morning, where they are freshly baked.
google avatar

Kris H.

Yelp
Yes, I know it's a tourist trap and overpriced but I dont care. I love all the sweets and pastries here. I am especially addicted to the torrone, heavenly nougat bars filled with hazelnuts. The breakfast dishes were mediocre. I just love sitting in the patio area with my espresso and torrone, watching the hordes of tourists wander aimlessly around Duomo. Fun times, minus the smokers. Very attentive service.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
Proud classy cafe right by the Duomo. Perhaps it is run by a baker, because the pastries are divine while coffee is ok. We had a grape tart and rice pudding lemon tart - both outstanding. The espresso drinks are not five star, but are served by gentlemen in vests and ties. There's some fun chit chat among locals at the stand up bar- perhaps shopkeepers popping in for a quick boost?
google avatar

Simon H.

Yelp
This was our go to coffee place when we were in Florence. It looks a little formal and intimidating from the outside, but don't let that put you off. We learnt very quickly that drinking your coffee at the bar is the best way to enjoy it - you get to mingle with locals, chat to the baristas and save a few euros at the same time. In my opinion Scudieri has the best pastries in Florence - extensive range and they are so fresh sometimes they are still warm.
google avatar

Yelp
Gellato and drinks on the Piazza near the dome. Good service and well needed shade from the beautiful sunshine day. Wi if is slow here but nice to get an update on yelp

Yelp
If I could give this place less than one star, I would. After living in Firenze for a few months i've been able to differ over priced tourist traps from amazing and affordable italian bakeries/restaurants. A plate of pasta here is about 12-14 euros when in any other trattoria it would be around 5-8 euros. Other than the price, the staff is rude and disrespectful to paying costumers. My family came to visit me and wanted to eat at the restaurant's terrace with the view of Il Duomo, meanwhile I just wanted to snack on a few pastries. The lady at the counter told me that my cookies would be 0.50 euro cents if I ate them at the bar, otherwise they would be more expensive. I respected the rules and said that it would be fine and that I would sit apart from my family who wanted to sit in the terrace. She had me waiting at the counter around 15 minutes and when I asked her for my pastries so I could pay for then AND eat them at the bar she basically said, in an ill-mannered tone, that I was trying to trick her and that I should pay the more expensive price and she would have someone send them to the table. After that I told her that I didn't want them anymore and she still sent them to the table and charged me. All this trouble for cookies that tasted like cardboard sugar cookies with tiny (and barely any) flavorless chocolate chips. (Compare the price of this quarter sized cookie to a ciambella in any other bakery) (cookie: 0.50 euro, ciambella: 1 euro) After our meal, me and my sister entered the establishment to find the restroom. When she asked for the whereabouts a male employee looked at her up and down and said "The bathroom is for paying costumers only." My sister replied that we had been sitting outside and pointed out to our family. He then asked us if we were lying about being costumers to which I replied that I would call my mother over if needed. He then grunted and pointed to the bathroom and sent someone to supervise us. In summary if you want to pay 100 euros for 5 items, be disrespected, and eat below average expensive food, this is the place for you.
google avatar

Kelvin C.

Yelp
Another tourist trap. The flan was disgusting and the tiramisu was nothing to write home about. The only positive thing is that they make a solid expresso. If you want to sit on their patio to people watch, you can do much better than this place.
google avatar

Mendy H.

Yelp
I actually liked their iced coffee. Yet I agree with some of the reviews that the staff wasn't the friendliest. And a bit overpriced.
google avatar

FRANK T.

Yelp
Great coffee, short wait times and the pizza is amazing. Came here twice and high suggest it
google avatar

Imre V.

Yelp
The Scudieri Caffé is a good choice. The sweets are nice, the sandwiches are far less. The service is slow and it is like they lost track of what is happenning around them... So this is a nice bar, but I wouldn't call it restaurant. It is very overpriced.

Laurie S.

Yelp
Beautiful little sidewalk cafe with a wide variety of delectable offerings. We ate ours on the go, however, we heard that standing at the bar is no charge as well. There is a $3-5 cover charge for sitting at the restaurant.
google avatar

Rita A.

Yelp
Great outdoor sitting area with the view of the Duomo. We had drinks and apps here. It was great but the drinks are obviously a bit pricer because of the view and location. They make good Aperol Spritz so try it out!
google avatar

Cassandra L.

Yelp
Food was very good and you have a decent view of the dome. I will not be returning based on the slowness of the staff but more so their rudeness towards tourists. The staff and the hostess.
google avatar

Norman W.

Yelp
It's position and 'class' gives the impression that it will be an expensive lunch. However, surprisingly, it was extremely reasonably priced. It was time for my first spritz of the day so we popped in. Most enjoyable drink as we both needed it. Seeing the food coming out of the kitchen made us quite hungry so a quick hunt through their lunchtime menu an order was placed. OK, it took a while for the food to come through but, to us, it didn't matter. The wait was worth it. A great pasta dish and a nice pizza. Fantastic food, reasonable price and good service. I would say to management though, give that poor guy outside a bit of help. He was rushed off his feet.
google avatar

K N.

Yelp
We had a coffee, cappuccino and macchiato and 4 pastries and the bill was 34 euro! I thought they made a mistake because the prices on the bill was not what was written on the pastries when we ordered from the window and they said this is the service fee. So they showed us the prices which was hidden on the corner eg price for a coffee non seated was 1.1 euro but if you sit on the table is 4 Euro. So almost like 400% service charge !! I should mention that the quality of the drinks and the pastries were really below average too. Horrible horrible place, avoid it .
google avatar

Nessy T.

Yelp
WORST SERVICE, attitude and food quality. The only positive thing is that the Capuccino is very good. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
google avatar

Braulio F.

Yelp
Had a coffee/pastry craving while visiting Piazza del Duomo on very early Sunday morning and saw this spot open. Was a little unclear on how to purchase food here but was redirected to the cashier to pay first then go to the pastry person or barista to order your items. My wife and I got cappuccinos and shared a sugared donut and a chocolate eclair. The cappuccino was really good and this place had the best eclair I have tasted. It was firm and soft with smooth cold chocolate cream. Went back later that night to get another eclair and they were all out. Get a chocolate eclair there if you get a chance. Enjoy!
google avatar

Eileen S.

Yelp
The pastries and drinks are all moderately priced and super delicious. It's so conveniently placed on the corner of a block right next to the Firenze Duomo, so it's always easy to find. I was so happy to find a real Italian bakery so close to my hotel. Everyone who worked there was really nice especially if you had no clue what pastry you were looking at! Definitely visit if you get the chance because anything you order will be great.
google avatar

Guilio Ñ.

Yelp
Convenient cafe located right next to the Duomo. The coffee, naturally, is quite good.
google avatar

Anette A.

Yelp
Went here for a coffebreake with something sweet with it. I had what looked like a pistage cake tasted ok. What drags down the grades is the lousy servers attitude i have met this arrogant attitude before. But it is really not pleasant a specially when you are forced to pay extra no matter where you sit (inside or outside). There's many subtile rules on what is OK or should i rather say what is expected from you as a turist. Like when you stand next to counter waiting for someone to take your order the staff send you to the tables for more waiting. It's not easy being a tourist when the patiens is so low. I will find another place to have my coffebreakes ...
google avatar

M R.

Yelp
At a touristic place we had a short snack. The service was bad. Taking our order while doing other things is a recipe for failure, so indeed a cappucino was delivered instead of the ordered tea. The tea was quite expensive 7 euro. Furthermore cleaning the table with his own bare hands. So recommended if you are a tourist and need to take a pee, otherwise as a tourist avoid, there are better places for service which we absolutely experience in florence.
google avatar

Char L.

Yelp
The biscotti cookies really caught my eyes in the window and even though I knew it was a tourist spot, I still bought a little treat to go. Four cookies the length of my pinkie finger cost 2 Euros. Bit pricey, but it was the perfect little snack. Got the orange flavor and the almond flavor. Would get them again - crunchy on the first bite and a bit chewy after that.
google avatar

Derek W.

Yelp
Located in Piazza di San Giovanni, it is a reasonable sized venue on the corner which will give you excellent views of the square, the Duomo, and all of the people walking by. We mainly visited for the coffees in the morning, which were really good. I noticed several of the reviews on Yelp indicated the staff was not very helpful, but that was not our experience. They were very nice and courteous. We did not try the food or the deserts so cannot comment on them. Our coffees were good!.

Yelp
I bought some great candy souvenirs to bring back to the USA for my family and they loved it.

Yelp
An OK cafeteria in a 5 star location. This place is located at Piazza del Duomo, just steps away from the Battistero di San Giovanni. It offers indoor and outdoor seating with an unobstructed view of the west gate and cathedral. This is by far it's best attribute. Scudieri is mostly known as a place to have a coffee and a sweet, maybe a snack, but it also offers a sit down menu. We stayed for lunch (who can beat such views?) but in general our experience wasn't a good one. Servers are overwhelmed by the ridiculous number of tourists that go in to shelter from the weather (being heat in the summer or cold in the winter) and order beverage/sweet to enjoy while standing. This translates into herds of customers, lousy service and poor attitude servers. The salad I ordered was VERY poor, no one that goes to Scudieri should ever order a salad! The pizza was good, your on the safe side by ordering one of these. In general, food quality is good, although nothing we ordered was beyond ok. You must pay 50 cents € to go into the bathroom, this made it uncomfortable and seem cheap, although they were definitely clean.

Marissa F.

Yelp
Likely touristy, but I liked the pastries and the coffee was wonderful. Nice to stand up at the coffee bar and enjoy a quick Italian breakfast. The pastries are cheap and worth it in my opinion.
