We made a reservation a day before arriving. Yet, were seated in a "no view" table. When asked about the other empty tables, were told rudely they were reserved (and so did we...) Staff was mostly rude, short tempered. When we asked for pancake, we were told they don't have any... And were offered french toast instead (see photo...) The eggs Benedict was so so...(see photo) Would not recommend or return to this spot. Thanks.

Google
great location, great food and menu. had beef medallions with wild garlic risotto and it was fantastic. very nice and warm days to sit outside or at the window, moderate traffic but not too distracting. have been here a few times over the years and it’s always been great. 1y later: great steak, ordered medium but got rare, was still tasty!

Alvaro was an amazing server and provided excellent service. The food was yummy and the portion sizes were more than enough. Beef tartare was delicious. Our family had a great time!

Where should I start? We just ordered some desserts (crème brûlée and almonds tart) and drinks. The creme brûlée is good, but others are very mediocre. The music is loud and the smoking smell in the restaurant. The toilet doesn’t have paper. The worst part is the service. The waiter was really rude and pushy. He “pushed”us to get the almond tart because the crepes we wanted were no longer available. At the end of the meal, the waiter made us tip a large amount that he wanted. I actually had to confront him about it as it made me feel quite uncomfortable

Tried their breakfast options. The Omar omelet, the bärlauch omelet, and French toast. Tasty, not traditional or American French toast. It was okay. The hot chocolate was the best with a sprinkle of cinnamon. All large serving sizes. Prices typical for Vienna. Service is nice and friendly. Make a reservation online to reserve a window seat with a view of the Votivkirche across the street.

Google
Nice little French cafe. We went for breakfast and went for the biggest breakfast they have. It was good, but one croissant is rather shortsighted for two people. Luckily, I didn't want a croissant that day. Coffee is good, too. The place is rather packed with tables and not too cozy, but a nice experience overall.

Google
I will give this restaurant 5 stars because everything we ordered was very delicious, came fast and was also price wise on point. They have a lot of space inside, and although we came for lunch and hadn’t booked a table, they found a nice place for me and my dad. I can’t really say much about the french influence of the restaurant, but I ordered a salad with falafel (which was vegan!) and my dad the quiche. The dessert with the smashed croissant was heavenly, so definitely try that if you can! The staff was friendly, and the ambience nice. Altogether a nice place to grab some food, but nothing extraordinary (:

Google
The coffee is nice, some tables and some chairs are already old and they are not stable, so I had to change to another one. The waiter was super polite but I can't say the same about the waitress, I asked one of it could be possible to change my table, she said wait there... I was waiting and no answer, then I moved and she was impolite. My food was great.

Yelp
Love the food here. Lunch special- pork medallions, green beans and potatoes- was huge and delicious and it came with dessert which was lovely. Special was a fab deal at 11.50 euro. A girl came in while a dog so they allow those. It's got a great view of the Votiv church. You can eat inside or out. Bathroom is nice and upstairs. Service was great.

Yelp
They had the freshest breakfast we tried in Vienna. Service was very attentive! Once we returned the staff remembered us and our orders! Tried to call a cab from my phone and they went the extra mile to help me out even out on the street waiting with me. Amazing food. Amazing service!

Nakiya B.

Yelp
I was there for the first time and ordered quiche with smoked salmon and leek with hot chocolate. The food was great as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. At this time, they don't accept credit/debit cards because system went down. Totally recommend you to go there with a company of friends or family!

Yelp
Excellent food, fast service, and an incredible view of St. Joseph's Cathedral (well worth a visit itself). However, the staff was quite unfriendly and rushed us to get our table in time for a reservation that was coming soon after us. It was mostly unfortunate because (despite our group-of-3's efforts to be friendly, polite, and unobtrusive) the staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming to other patrons while being very cold toward us. In spite of the terrible service, I would return for the food and location alone.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Vienna. They have shockingly good, huge portions. Their club sandwich - the "le club" - is bloody amazing and comes with a forest of steak fries. The balsamic they use on their salads must have been stolen from Olympus it's so damn tasty. They also have a really good steak frites. It's really more of a filet, but they know how to cook it beautifully rare. The only downside is the cost. The proper entrees are in the teens, so two people will probably spend somewhere in the range of 30-60 euros.

Bertrand L.

Yelp
Interesting little place we stumbled along with a large party, which relegated us to the back of the establishment, but still adjacent to the windows and sunny day. Wait staff was friendly - especially for Vienna - and placing our orders in this quaint restaurant was easy and efficient. At our table, there were a couple of quiches ordered, as well as the fish soupe. One of the quiches was fine, but the other was cold inside; however, the fish soup was excellent with a tomato base and parmesan cheese added from the side. While a Coke light was spilled upon delivering our food, the damage was minimal, albeit a seat change was required. There seemed to be some confusion with respect to credit cards - it was though that only ATM cards were accepted, but (maybe) regular plastic was taken as well. It's best to clarify before ordering.

Yelp
Chiq and trendy cafe with a French touch near Schottentor. The ambiance is really nice. Even when it is full of people it doesn't seem loud or packed. But be sure to make a reservation!!! The food is very good but I wish they had more meatless options. The service can be slow sometimes but the food usually makes up for it. I am deducting a star because the door to the smoking area is always open and eventually the smoke fills parts of the downstairs area too. And you have to walk though the smoking section to go to the bathroom. Not pleasant...

Florentin K.

Yelp
Abysmal service. As we were sitting on the edge of the smoking area, I politely asked the waiter to close the door to said area. The response I got was a disinterested shrug and, moments later, the manager showing up and giving us a lecture about how we dared trying to tell him how to run his business.

Yelp
I went here on Friday past with two British friends, for a looooooooooong lunch. It was wonderful. We each had something different from the menu, and were all equally impressed. I had the yummy Chevre Chaud, a starter portion with three little goat's cheese tartlets served with rucola and pine nut side salad, drizzled with balsamic dressing. The other girls had respectively, the Plat du Jour vegetarian dish [ a pea and mint burger combination], and the tabouleh and falalel starter portion. It was something new to try both lavender soda, and violet soda [ for those of you who have British/ Irish roots, the viola soda tasted exactly like those sweets of childhood, Parma Violets... ooh the nostalgia :] We sat for several hours, and the service was really good. They brought our dishes at the same time [ a rarity in Vienna], and checked several times if everything was okay, but not in an overbearing way. It's not the cheapest place in town, the coffee is really expensive there compared to other places, but it is good coffee, so that makes up for the 3,50 per cup [ for a Verlangter schwarz] The decor is funky, both modern and with a nod to rustic France, and it's a great spot to sit for hours on end with friends chatting, or for a relaxing place to catch up on some reading in town. I'll definitely come back... it's a wee gem near to the Votiv Kirche .

Yelp
It has been newly renovated and reopened in late 2013 so everything is looking great. I really like the style in the restaurant/Cafe, ir is a good mixture between old and modern style, in my opinion. The serves here is impeccable and the food and drink quality is to die for. I actually have nothing negative to report about this place.

Anett E.

Yelp
I would give this place 10 stars just to point out how good it is!!!! LOVE!!! We stumbled upon it while walking to our hotel one day just around the corner. Came back for breakfast and omg was that tasty. So tasty in fact that we came back the next day too! Not cheap and you have to have cash (no credit cards, we learned the hard way the first time ;-) ), but the food and coffee is exceptional!!!! Fresh fruit and vegetables, the menu makes sense, the items look so good that one cannot stop eating them, all the ingredients are so good quality I just wanted to eat everything off the menu. Service is just as good, the waiters must have been hired from a modeling agency ;-). I have nothing bad to say about the place! I literally cannot wait to go back for the omelet!

Ninjal W.

Yelp
I am so sorry, but Cafe Francais is disappointing. Even though it has the potential to be a great place to enjoy french food, the experience they shape is poor. Most of their waiters seem to not know how to smile and it makes you feel like you are not welcome as a guest. I love the interior and the food is nice, but a lack of human charm kills it for me.

Tony W.

Yelp
Superb breakfasts on a Saturday. Healthy options available. Book ahead to get a table by a window nook. Well priced. Fast service. Turns into a regular breakfast spot after your first visit.

Ritika M.

Yelp
Food is OK but servers especially one of the tall guys with a French beard never smiled and was in fact down right rude. We paid by card and he charged us 29 euros. At the end after charging us, he says "service charge / tip was not included", and left our table in a rude manner. I was caught off guard and was surprised by this behavior. I judged his behavior to be cheap and aggressive. Happy to pay tip but never during the process the machine prompted us and he never told us anything about service/tip prior to paying. We assumed we will have a place to leave tip on the bill similar to the US. I find this type of whole ambience / rude attitude unacceptable. Will not be going back or recommend to folks interested in getting treated nicely.

Yelp
Nicely located next to the beautiful Votivkirche. Trendy interior and a good selection of food and beverages. Not the cheapest cafe, but still quite reasonably priced.

Yelp
recently opend, the cafe francais is already bursting from people, even on a wednesday night. (you better get a reservation...) but honestly the ambience is fabulous, rustic with trendy setting and stylish details. quick and very nice service. and I instantly fell in love with lavender soda - never tasted anything like it, it was just great! haven't eaten there yet, but the portions on the other tables looked big and very tasty - i will rewrite my review when I have my own experience concerning food. That was quick!! I had the chance today and took it :) My refrence doesn't chang after eating there at all. The quality ws realy good and it tasted great. big portions, tast and quality justify the slightly over avereage prices for food. Service again was very nice and welcoming. The owner himself came to the table and asked if everything was alright!

Yelp
Wonderful food, friendly service and lovely ambiance. The menu is very creative and interesting. I had breakfast here and I really want to come back for lunch! They have interesting drinks like lavender or violet soda (as in the flower). The have unusual juice mixes, I tried mango, orange, grapefruit, celery and ginger juice, it was very tasty. Their food is very fresh. The service is extremely fast! They were very friendly when I called to reserve, too. Unfortunately, the door to the smoking section is always open. And the kitchen is open directly onto the smoking section. So they're preparing amazingly healthy juices in a smokey environment? I can't quite get my head around that. On the up side, the hostess was very open to finding me a table as far from the smoking section as possible. The air there was pretty good. I'll definitely go back. They have moules frites on the menu! Must.Have. And the quiche specials looked worth an extra trip, too.

Yelp
Convenient to the Hilton Vienna Plaza and Shottentor stop. The food is a combination of French and Moroccan and it is superb. After a day of walking around central Vienna and being tired and hungry our party of 5, including 2 teenagers and a grandmother all found something delicious to enjoy. The wine list, while limited, appeared quite good and our Sauvignon Blanc was good with the food choices. Our meal choices included Coq au Vin, Chicken Targine, Fresh Mussels, Fresh Sole, and a Spinach Quiche. The fresh catch was incredibly well prepared! For dessert, a highlight of the evening, we chose the crepes flambé, chocolate mousse, and boding (like a bread pudding). The desserts were excellent.....make sure to save room for it. This was a restaurant that brought a carafe of regular tap water on request rather than insist on selling us yet another bottle of mineral water. Overall a great choice for dinner, happy to serve tourists like us, but also full of locals eating dinner including a large local group celebrating a birthday.

Izzy Z.

Yelp
I mean, its ok. I am actually always really surprised how everyone seems to love love love this place. I think its just ok. I had the quiche. It was ok. I would not say so good tears roll down my eyes as I gently whispered "as good as Grandmother's". I also was not impressed with the food on the table next to us, but hey, maybe it was delicious. Their Lilly Spritzer was to die for, and should be at around 5 Euros. Truly excellent though. Staff is generally friendly. However, it is usually extremely busy, so you really must reserve, and then you will have to deal with lots of noise (at least for Austria) and listening into your neighbor's conversation (maybe reviewer Connie had a more open table then we did, as this was the feeling each time I was there). Overall, been there a few times to meet with friends, and hoping it would suddenly amaze me, at the end it is ok, but I would not say fabulous. It seems everyone in Vienna loves any French run/sounding place, such as this place, or Le Bol. Good for France I guess, but I still would go somewhere else if you want to just relax and have a bite to eat. But if you want the Lilly Spritzer, then this is your place (note, not so many beer or wine options, but you will survive).

Sunday M.

Yelp
So good! We wandered over here on a sunny breezy day for brunch. We got the Vanessa parades and the del mondo, both were fantastic, the service was excellent and the portions were huge! Noise levels were just perfect, buzzing but not loud and we didn't encounter the offensive cigarette smoke that other helpers have mentioned. The only thing that was bad was my latte and the tea we ordered, such a shame because the food and everything else was outstanding!! But if you get your caffeine elsewhere, I would recommend brunching here!

Markus T.

Yelp
The Café is cute with nice window seating. The food was very good - Croissant with marmalade, butter, fruit, and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. The chai latte was very thick and delicious. The only reason for the 4 stars is that there was nothing super outstanding about the food or drinks.

Claire W.

Yelp
Great for breakfast lunch and dinner ! Very good French inspired menu with a twist. Lovely decor and nice restaurant scene. Loved the salad and for breakfast had delicious croissant !

Lavender L.

Yelp
I have been here at least 7 times in the past 4 months. The service is decent..the food is pretty good. the club with a pile of fries and lettuce was awesome and highly recommended! Though I wish it were more sandwich and salad with less fries! The spinach quiche was terrible and lacking flavor and full, I mean full of spinach and little else of other ingredients. Practically choke on the spinach. The quiche Lorraine is perfect! The daily lunch specials are my favorite! Breakfast is good, but omelets are a bit bland. The baguettes are great! I look forward to trying other things although their selection is minimal and fits on one side of one card or menu. Drinks are pricey and again minimal selection. But, great chai lattes, not so great frappe, and must have violet soda water! Will return soon. Downside is the smoking room door is always open and the smell goes all over the place. Not nice when I care about my lungs and rather enjoy my meal without it.

Julia F.

Yelp
food was quite good. i had the club sandwich which was huge. its good to share! stuff was nice. the place seems to be full all the time, so reservation recommended! the stuff seems to be speaking french too

Dragan X.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, very urban feel and good music. A place to bring your friends for a fun night but don't expect a major culinary experience. Wine list could be better.
