It was underwhelming compared to my expectations. I went to try the beignets, a signature New Orleans dessert, but they tasted too much like flour. The coffee was also mediocre—not something I’d crave again. It’s worth trying once for the experience, though. The restroom was inconvenient to use, and the lines were long. The café was incredibly busy, creating a chaotic atmosphere. Thankfully, I found a seat quickly, but the next day I saw an even longer line, so I guess I was lucky.

It was worth the wait and the line moves fairly quick and while waiting be treated to street performing jazz band which is just magical.

I was surprised by the bad service, since everyone used the cell phone. They bothered to explain to me how the restaurant works (how to order food, payment methods).At the table I was attended by an Asian boy and thanks to his great attention I can say that it was a 3/5 star

Can you visit New Orleans and not stop at the world-famous Cafe Du Monde? It was a rainy day in the French Quarter when we made our way here. On my last layover in New Orleans, I was only able to pick some beignets at the airport so this was a must do on my list. We were able to walk in and find our own table. The staff came up and took our order. They were sure to mention that it is a cash only location so keep that in mind. We ordered the beignets and an iced coffee. The coffee was dark and very strong. The beignets were amazing! They are thick, fluffy, and packed with powdered sugar. You instantly feel like you are in heaven when you take your first bite. It was so delicious I didn't even notice the sugar falling everywhere around me. Of course I ordered another set of beignets to take home with me. This location is definitely worth the visit. They play live music and provide a wonderful atmosphere. Be sure to get a table outside so you can watch everyone strolling around in Jackson Square. This place will always be a rite of passage for tourists visiting the city.

Holy happiness on a plate! My first time to New Orleans and of course we had to try the famous beignet's and Chicory coffee. The seating is a little inside/outside. I had an idea of what it might taste like (imagine sopapilla's in New Mexico). NOPE! Soooo much better. It's a fresh, thick, chewy, doughy pouch of goodness dusted with 3-layers of powdered sugar. The chicory is strong yet comforting. The staff are nice, patient, helpful, and quick! Do not miss out on this gem and it's a cash only establishment!

The iconic Cafe fu Monde, lives up to the hype. I was very impressed by the wait time, as I was anticipating , a two hour wait for a table of 5. Bit to our surprise, within 15 mins we got a table for 5. We order the famous beignets, and let me tell you it does not disappoint!!! The coffee and the beignets were a winning combination. Nothing really says New Orleans, like sitting in the French quarters enjoying the hustle and bustle of bystanders. Whilst good ole,jazz plays on the street. There's nothing quite like Cafe du monde, filled to capacity. Everyone enjoying there beignets, and having a great time. It's definitely an experience to visit cafe du monde! Highly recommend going to the back of the building where, there's a windows where you can see them making the beignets. There's also a to go line, if you decide you don't want to wait for a table.

A must stop when in New Orleans! We even stopped here twice cause we enjoyed the beignets so much. The icon white and green striped branding is hard to miss! Both times we opted for the take out line bc it was much shorter than trying to dine in. Dark clothing not recommended as the powder sugar will 100% be spilled on it. It was funny to see the trails of powder sugar left from where people stood to eat. The beignets were light with a crisp exterior, and surprisingly with all that sugar, the right amount of sweetness. We loved it!

Food and service were amazing! It is spacious and full of history inside. There was even a jazz band playing outside. This place is always busy so you have to look fast for a seat. The staff are very helpful finding you seats as well. This was a short 15 to 20 minute walk from the Courtyard where we stayed. It is right by the water. My go to order is for beignets and a café au lait. The beignets are covered in powdered sugar, be careful this is messy. I recommend ordering your coffee on the darker side to get a more rich and less watered down coffee. Of note, this is cash only so make sure you have some on hand. They also have their beignet mix and other merchandise for sale. We will be back again the next time we are in New Orleans!

Came twice during the trip. If you're here, you must try their beignets at least once. When they're fresh, it has a crispy exterior and light and airy interior. It's absolutely covered in powdered sugar (don't forget to shake it off!) and you will definitely get it all over yourself. There's indoor and outdoor seating, very simply decorated but no complaints. The service is unique. You seat yourself and waiters will come to your table to take your order. When they bring your order, they typically ask for payment too. CASH only!

The brand itself is known world wide; this place specifically is a gem and a must visit when in NO. Menu is pretty straight forward, and you can't go wrong with any of the pastry or drink options. They are known for their beignets, the puff version is simply perfection. Everything there is made fresh to order, it does not travel well so might as well just sit and enjoy. There are even souvenir items to buy. Service is quite quick since they have it down to a science. Seating is plenty with very quick turnovers, and so many staff there to clean the tables if you haven't self-cleaned. There are options of both indoors and outdoor seatings.

Definitely a tourist must get, the beignets came out fluffy, hot, and coated with powdered sugar. You can't really go wrong with fried dough and sugar. We got our beignets through take out, but I feel like getting them to dine in and sit down (if you can find a seat since it's so busy) would probably be better to enjoy. The cafe au lait was just ok, not sure if our batch was a lemon but it tasted like a regular shot of espresso with milk.

I've been drinking coffee and eating beignets here my entire life for as long as I can remember. I have memories from childhood trying to argue my case for black coffee with no milk and never winning. I actually find the beignets here to be overly covered in powdered sugar to my taste and I prefer places like Morning Call that serve the beignets naked with sugar on the side. The people watching can't be beat at the original Café du Monde though as you can see the madness of the French Quarter pass right in front of you. Overall it might not be the best coffee or beignets but there is simply no other place quite like the original Café du Monde in the New Orleans French Quarter.

There are many locations, but as a tourist, this is THE location to go to since this is the original stand. It seems a bit of a mess - plenty of empty tables full of leftover beignet pieces and mountains of powdered sugar (they get cleaned up eventually) and servers delivering orders. It was a midweek afternoon, so it wasn't as busy as I anticipated it to be. Party of 4, we decided to get just one order of beignets to share. It was an odd hour for coffee, so we opted for just water. VERDICT: Boy, they don't mess around with the amount of powdered sugar they top these treats with! Beignets are fluffy, not too sweet, and delicious. If you don't eat it properly, powdered sugar is gonna end up all over your face and clothing. Don't fret: it comes off rather easily. FOOD: 4. SERVICE: 3. Staff wasn't very friendly, but the treats came out fast. VALUE: 4. Really not bad for a tourist spot. PARKING: Street only - didn't notice a private lot, but possible... OVERALL: 3.5. Bathroom needs work. Floor are slippery around that area, so be cautious. Not bad for a tourist spot, although I'm told it can get REALLY crowded during the weekends or worse during tourist season. Plan accordingly.

When in NOLA I was told you have to try the beignets. We went to Cafe Du Monde at the oldest location. It was only about a 15-20 minute wait for a seat, so do not let the long line deter you because it moves by quick! We got some beignets and drinks. It was ok! Something we new we had to try but a bit heavy.

Definitely a place you HAVE to visit in New Orleans!! The line was long to get in, but it went by so fast. We were seating in like 15 mins! & the served in less than 10 mins. It's not a long wait or anything, so everyone should go! The menu only consists of coffee, milk, and the beignets. Everything was amazing!!! Super sugary & delicious. It feels very special to be there and visit. Everyone must go!!

We were advised to stop at Cafe Du Monde for its famous beignets. Located on Decatur St near Jackson Square this place is always busy. Important: Make sure you have cash. They don't accept credit cards We found a table and one of the staff immediately cleaned it. Food: Beignets were good. I'm not much for sweet stuff so I dusted off all the powdered sugar. My sis and daughter loved it. I suggest not wearing black Venue: they definitely try to keep the place clean. One suggestion our table was still sticky but I had wipes so I wiped it again. Price: we paid $18 for 2 coffees, 2 hit waters (yup, it's not free) and an order of beignets (3 pieces in an order). All in all, stop by here to experience the original beignets. Enjoy!

The Cafe Du Monde! It never disappoints and such a treat to come here to savor the history, beignets and the hickory coffee! Service good, speedy, bustling with people and original. Be sure to bring cash because they only take cash! Little shopping souvenir store across the street as well for your enjoyment!

We had to make a stop here while visiting. There was quite a line but I was shocked how fast we got through it. We waiting about 20 min total. They only take cash, which makes the process super easy. You order and pay once they bring your stuff so you can leave once you're done. I got the iced coffee and of Courtney beignets. I was pretty full after that so it was a great breakfast!

I had to try the beignets here after hearing about them for forever! They did not disappoint! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with lots of powdered sugar. Make sure to have cash because that's all they take. The confusing part was when we sat down at a table someone directed us to, and there were still lots of dishes left on it. It took a while for someone to come clean it off. Once the waiter took our order, we got our food pretty quickly. The street performers when we went were a bit aggressive and yelling at everyone while we ate. I'm glad we weren't right next to them, but it did make the experience a little less enjoyable.

I'm sure there are plenty of reviews that are going to say this place is over-hyped, overrated, and touristy but... I still like this place. It's kind of a must if you're a tourist coming to NOLA and experiencing the French Quarter, right? I did it the first time I came here 12 years ago, and then again this time, with kids. The beignets are basic, simple, and delicious. Would you like some fried dough with your sugar? No, but seriously. I'm not big on super sweet, rich, desserts, so I think I particularly appreciate the simplicity of some fried dough topped with powdered sugar - shake some of it off if you don't want it that sweet - paired with a nice cafe au lait. It's kind of one of *the* things to do around here if you're a tourist. Yes, there's always a line, but it flies. I had second thoughts about standing in A line that looked pretty long with a 7 and 3 year old, but we ended up waiting just a little more than 5 minutes, and there was a live band playing on the sidewalk. Overall, a great experience. Be sure to dust off your pants on the way out.

This is the place everyone says to go for a beignet, so that was our lunch today. An order of three, practically drowning in powdered sugar was enough for us to share. The service is very fast as only beignets, coffees and some fruit juices are offered. The beignets were very good, but I was glad to have a glass of water with all of that sugar.

This place is truly iconic! Had to stop on my way out of town. I ordered a cafe au lait and it was delicious! I also ordered an order of beignets- so let me tell you they are large in size, so an order of three is enough to cover you in powdered sugar from head to toe! They are a little more dense than Italian zeppolies but every bit as delicious! The price was inexpensive which was an added treat!

Open 24 hrs. Safe to say we came here everyday on our trip. Take a seat and a server will come up to you OR if looking to Take Out simply go to the side window. Menu is small so once you order they are fast. The beignets come in 3 and they are warm pillowy dough goodness covered in heaps of powdered sugar. These are only good when eaten on the spot so they warm and soft. Actually not too sweet, I think any donut is sweeter than a beignet. For drinks they have iced/hot coffee or lattes. Sadly this OG location does not have the iced mocha on the menu which was is sad but you can get one at the location in the airport. PS- Will get powered sugar every where :)

Easy review, this place is an institution in New Orleans. Great beignets at a great price, our group never left disappointed. To give context by how much we liked this place, our group was in New Orleans for three days. We came here every day to grab some beignets and chicory coffee, I think we even came 2 times one of those days. There is a line most of the time but they whip you through pretty quick so finding a table is never too long of a wait. Prices are very reasonable and the service is fast and prompt. You get in and you get out. You can also order pick-up if you don't want to grab a table. It is one of the top things you have to do when visiting the city and I have been to New Orleans several times in my life and still go every time.

Repeat after me cheat day is allowed. This place has the best beignets I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and dusted with powder sugar. The inside is fluffy and moist. The lines outside are outrageous. We decided to come back at a later hour to not wait as long. Be warned this is a cash only venue. 3 beignets are 3.95. They have tables under an awning for those who want table service. Servers appeared to be chilling on their phones and bored. We opted for to go. Highly suggest going at an off peak hour unless you love lines.

Since this was our first time in NOLA, Cafe du Monde was one of the top spots on our list! My group of friends walked from our nearby lunch spot and was able to find the bustling cafe pretty easily. After arriving there, it wasn't obvious where to stand or where to start in the ordering process, but we realized quickly where the takeout line was on the side of the ordering window. We waited around 15-20 mins total and ordered the 3 beignets to share. Like a lot of other reviews were saying, they were a little denser than what we were used to having before - but they were still delicious, not too sweet, and super craveable! There was a ton of seating on site but we decided to take them to-go to eat at the riverwalk. Altogether a nice experience, and would visit again if I'm back in the city!

I don't care the it's kind of touristy - it's a bucket list restaurant for a number of different reasons and a must stop if you're in the French Quarter visiting New Orleans. They're open late (it used to be 24/7 but I believe that was pre-pandemic) with hot delicious fresh beignets. It can get pretty busy but the service is attentive for how large of a space it is. Also, I highly recommend eating the beignets there as they don't retain their quality in the bag or to-go very well. Their iced coffee is good too! Just remember this establishment is cash only which also means that its a good bargain :)

You can't visit NOLA without stopping at the original Cafe Du Monde! In my opinion it is worth the hype. The beignets were warm, fluffy and airy. I tried a few other places and Cafe Du Monde definitely has the better beignets (I personally don't like them too doughy and these were perfect!) Be prepared to get sugar all over yourself- they are a powdery mess! I tried the Cafe Au Latte as well, and that was ok- didn't really care for it (I like my coffee strong and this isn't that) However it did pair well and help wash down the sugar of the beignets. I went later in the afternoon and did not have an issue finding a table to sit. It gets busy due to the popularity however the waiters are great and speedy! Heads Up: Cash only, come prepared. Quick service, PLENTY of seating, and cheap eats. This place is cash-only, though. Be prepared to be doused in powdered sugar everywhere! Cafe Du Monde is known for their coffee and beignets, and I was super excited to get to try the beignets at the French Quarter while listening to some street performers play music and watch the hustle + bustle of New Orleans. The beignets come out really quickly (if you go inside the little cafe area, you'll see staff members quickly churning out these beignets like literal hot cakes) and dusted with powdered sugar. I usually don't like a lot of dough in beignets, so I like that these were small bites to eat (just be sure to shake off some of that powdered sugar)! Pro tip: line your table with napkins, the powdered sugar gets EVERYWHERE! They also have a gift shop across the street with fun items like pins, stickers, post cards, clothing, and beignet mixes. They take credit card at the giftshop. Everything is extremely reasonably priced (honestly cheaper than expected), but also remember... cash only at the restaurant/cafe!

With our beignets in hand, we took a leisurely stroll down to the Riverwalk, where the Mississippi River meets the Gulf of Mexico. There, with the gentle breeze coming off the water, we found a quiet spot to sit and enjoy our treats. The beignets, hot and generously dusted with powdered sugar, were as delicious as ever, and the simple pleasure of watching the river flow by made for a truly peaceful and memorable moment. It's these small, serene experiences that make Café Du Monde so special. The combination of good company, delicious food, and the natural beauty of the river creates a uniquely New Orleans experience that I look forward to with each visit. I'll certainly be back to relive it again on my next trip.

We ordered beignets to go at the order to go window. They only take cash so make sure you are ready to pay with cash. Then we took our beignets to Jackson square and sat there to eat. It was very fluffy and yummy. Not too sweet at all. The cashier is friendly. The cafe is mostly outdoor under a cover and there is a lady singing right outside the cafe which is a very enjoyable entertainment.

CASH ONLY! It was a fun place to hang out and enjoy some beignets in the late evening. I loved how they added plenty of powdered sugar to the beignets. Their hot chocolate was delicious, and there were plenty of outdoor tables available. A bag of three beignets was more than enough for me and my party. I also bought a cute souvenir cup! Parking was a nightmare though.

Manic, well-fed, with dark eyebrows, I already look like John Belushi, but the powdered sugar all over my table and shirt didn't help any. Cafe Du Monde is to New Orleans like Voodoo Doughnuts is to Portland, or what Katz Deli is to New York City, or what Mystic Pizza is to Mystic, CT, or what Krusty Krab is to Bikini Bottom. Friends warned me it was a crowded tourist trap: an institution (people have been eating here since the Civil War), but nothing special, with sticky tables in place of southern hospitality. If my server was from the south, it was Cabo San Lucas. Even on a rainy Friday in October, it was packed, so I had to circle the tables like a shark. A lot of people will both dilly and dally, so I watched from afar for the moment someone turned their phone off, and I reached their table by the time they put their phone away. It was like fishing. I asked for the table as they got up and stood there until it was cleaned, ignoring all the sad, desperate sharks who missed the kill. Surprised my wife would like something so "obvious", she said, " it is a quintessential New Orleans experience, people watching while eating fluffy, hot beignets, with live jazz music from the street performers. The only thing to make it more New Orleansy is to give gator masks to the surrounding homeless and throw marshmallows to them." (OK, she didn't say that last part) PS. Airport security will flag your suitcase if you buy the boxes of powder, so buy it at the airport. Tip your server a buck extra and ask for the gift bag!

This is a must stop when visiting New Orleans. I'm sure locals and maybe even foodies will say it's overrated. But in my eyes, it was awesome. We ate outside, right when you walk up a server gets you to a table you put in a quick order, we did 3 beignets and 2 coffees. These beignets were soooo good, warm, light, fluffy. So much powdered sugar. Yum-O! There's was also a live jazz band playing on the street which just added to the vibe. 10/10 highly recommend. Even if it is touristy, it's a must.

This is one of the most iconic things you can eat/do in New Orleans, and that's why it's easy to see why they are so insanely busy all the time. There are a handful of Cafe du Monde locations around the city now, but this is the OG and the most crowded because of that, I think. They do two things and they do them both very well: drinks and beignets. Most of the drinks you can get are coffee-based, like black coffee, cafe au lait, and a few decaf options. And then the others you can get are orange juice, hot chocolate, and a few soda and water options. Many if not all of the people there, though, are not there for the coffee. - they are there for the world famous beignets. Delicious and perfectly fried dough covered in a LOT of powdered sugar (there is also powdered sugar on the table, if you want to add more). Whether you stop at this original location or one of the other Du Monde spots around town, just do yourself a favor and get to one of them!

It was a 20 min wait in the cold wind for a dirty table under the roof with tent walls that let in the cold wind. But that doesnt matter anymore when the warm, sugar drenched plate of golden beignets arrives. Thats why youre here. Sure they have some coffee but thats all secondary. Service was whatever, ambiance was very cattle heard-y and the place was dirty. Crazy touristy. But the beignets really are that good.

A trip to the Big Easy, isn't complete for me without a stop at Cafe Du Monde. Kindly chilly this morning so we ate indoors instead of on the covered patio. One order of beignets and two cups of Cafe au lait was just enough for us to split. Table service was the way to go for us and our server was there in minutes to take our order and the piping hot treats were delivered quickly, ready for us to devour!

Oh my beignets! What delicious overloads have granted me the taste of Cafe Du Monde? My brother lives in New Orleans and treated me to my first beignets and there was lots to be impressed by. Not as sweet as a donut and quite funnel like in texture. When I say they load up their treats with powdered sugar, I mean a literal ton (okay, not actually, but I could very well skii down the slopes of the powder sugar mountain that lay before me). Don't miss out on the frozen coffee wonder, and heck, even dip a beignet in it while you're at it! I understand entirely why this is a staple here.

We decided to check this place out before heading to Jackson Square and grab a couple of Cafe Au Laits and some beignets. The coffee was delicious and the beignets were amazing. Warm and soft inside and not too sweet. But they are covered in mounds of powdered sugar so you can adjust it to your sweetness liking. The server was super polite and friendly. They are cash only. 2 coffees and an order of beignets for just barely over 10 bucks. For the price and taste you can't beat it!

Eating a beignet at du Monde was a bucket list item and I have successfully checked it off; Back east, we call these things "fried dough" and they're sold at carnivals, fairs or made at home as a treat...but ours lacks the jazz music, quirky seating arrangements and militaristic service! So here goes: I'm giving this 5 stars for the mere experience of it. I did taste one other beignet in the FQ that may have beaten everyone out on texture, but I gotta say that Cafe du Monde's flavor is the most reminiscent of what I would hope fried dough tastes like! Don't wear dark clothing, as you WILL be covered in powdered sugar. It's deep fried, it's soft, it's crunchy. It's the bomb! We went fairly early in the morning and there were no seats; naturally, your inclination is the queue up in the line. Locals tell us that is NOT how it's done--simply act like you own the place, walk in and around all the tables and find one that's been abandoned and is needs to be cleared off. Sit down; a server will arrive, clean off the table, and take your order. Oddly all the servers are Asian, not sure if that's a "thing", but the limited menu is plastered on the napkin dispenser. CASH ONLY! I'm not a coffee drinker, so I ordered a hot chocolate. There is a local coffee with chicory option, but I had no desire to try something I knew cowboys made into coffee in Westerns. My friend had a cafe au lait, for all intents and purposes. We got the 3 beignets and two beverages; all the while, there's a jazz band playing on the sidewalk, which provides a totally awesome experience as you enjoy your beignets. Throw some cash into their hats when they come around. The juxtaposition of homeless folks sleeping on nearby benches or wandering around is a stark reminder of how hard Katrina hit the area.
