Café Caron

I have been at Café Caron multiple times and it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. The menu is small, giving the kitchen room to prepare tasty courses for you. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy. PS 1: if you are alone, or if it is just the two of you, I can also recommend you a seat at the bar. PS 2: Book in advance, this is a popular place!

We’ve been celebrating my birthday here, and everything was great! I like that the menu is not so big, and everything we’ve tried was delicious. Nice atmosphere and great staff as well!

I found Cafe Caron on a list of restaurants a coworker sent me. Cafe Caron was listed as his favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. His recommendation didn't disappoint. My experience here was one of the top 5 meals I've ever had. The service was spectacular. The food was incredible. The wine selection amazing. I had oysters to start and chose the prix fixe menu, which included a first course of chard, second course of short rib, and selection of cheese for the third course. I recommend dining here when you can take your time eating the meal. Every course deserves to be eaten at a leisurely pace, enjoying every flavor.

Every dish was superb. Service was attentive and friendly, and atmosphere wonderful — felt special without being pretentious. Three course menu at 56 EUR pp is not cheap but food was so beautifully prepared and portions were generous, so the price felt fair. Definitely recommend and will go back.

The food was incredible, taste very different to anything I’ve had before and an unexpected experience. However the food took SOOOOOOOOO long, we got there at 8:45, didn’t get a menu until 9:15, and our starter didn’t arrive till 10. Ended up finishing around 11.

Wow! Some of the reviews have said the portions were not worth the price but I can 100% say they were. We did the 3 course menu which was great value but more importantly the food was stunning! The attention to detail superb! Love the venue I felt like I was in someone’s house really welcoming and relaxed. Will be visiting again when I’m back in Amsterdam

We had to wait 1 hour, because they forgot about our order. The tables are too close and we were basically trapped in the corner of the restaurant and had to ask every time guests around to let our waitress get to our table or let us go to the restroom. Im not an expert in Michelin star restaurants, but Michelin used to be associated for me with delicious food and nice atmosphere and perfect service. However, either Michelin has a very low standards of tasty food or we have high standards of it. The dessert was like a rock we barely could eat it. The wines were nice, but food not worth the hype around the restaurant. Serving of the dishes was nice.

Food is below expectation and below average. Simply saying just it’s not good. Servers didn’t introduce the food when bringing to the table and didn’t proactively ask us whether we would likely have more wine or different wine for different dish. I have visited many French restaurants in Amsterdam, there are many other places can offer much better quality of food and experience. In sum, the overall experience is not worthy and I won’t revisit.

We found this cozy tiny French restaurant near our Air BnB place. No reservation, but we could seat counter. Server is kindly served and offered many good recommendations, Start with three different kind of oysters, cheese , asparagus, main entree sea bass and chicken, end with ice cream desert. I had four glasses of wines.

Lovely place, attentive service, but our meal was just ok. We came on the recommendation by Esquire Bib Gourmand and ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entries. The hen was AH-mazing, the swordfish carpaccio was delish, but the main course veal was underwhelming and the duck eggs was a mistake to order for us. I will be back for that chicken though - juicy, tender, with crispy skin

Most memorable meal in Amsterdam! We didn't have a reservation but arrived early and found 2 spots at the bar. The staff made us feel right at home and we enjoyed watching them and the kitchen work in the open layout. We took all recommendations on which food and wine to order and recommend doing the same - you cannot go wrong. Highly recommend an experience at Cafe Caron.

Tiny portions that are not bad. The food is good but even if you get appetizers and everything else you will leave hungry. Lamb was tasty and well prepared but a tiny tiny portion. Two bites at best. Same for sea bream fish dish which was perfectly prepared but unacceptable in size by any standards. With so many wonderful restaurants around this place is really it worth going to. Even locals at the table next to our were openly unsatisfied by the size of they dishes. Can't recommend at all.

We dropped in without reservation and had wonderful French dinner at the counter. The servers were very friendly. I can tell they have lots of locales eat there.

Although the menu looks very simple, the way the chef and Kitchen team prepare all the dishes is beyond imagination. Ask for the "Red" wine book and you'll be amazed of the hand written selection of wines. Choose the Billecart rose with the Dutch "platte zeeuwse" oysters and continue with one of the beautiful Bourgogne from the red book. Sauternes by the glass with a wonderful dessert. Would be sad if they will receive a Michelin Star. Better keep Caron as a hidden secret in once again the most upcoming neighborhood in the good old Amsterdam!

One of the best meals I've ever had in Amsterdam. Great family-run vibe. Not pretentious.

This is as good as it gets. We cannot say enough good things about the food. Great location and service. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quanity. I don't want to label it as purely French food because it had the best of everything. We highly recommend. Best food we have had in years.
