"Cupcakes may have hit peak popularity in 2013, but for any enduring cupcake enthusiasts and/or a small child’s birthday party, Butter Lane is still around. Flavors include maple pecan, honey cinnamon, coconut, espresso, cream cheese, blueberry, and the Elvis (banana cake topped with peanut butter). Butter Lane also hosts two-hour cupcake making classes for $75 per person." - Alexandra Ilyashov

We stumbled into Butter Lane on our way to the park on vacation. I'm glad we did! I love cupcakes and am a huge baker and I don't often find bakeries that are as good as what I can make at home. The employee gave us some frosting samples (!!!) and every frosting can go on top of any of 3 cupcake bottoms (Vanilla, chocolate, and banana). We got 5 cupcakes total; vanilla on vanilla, cinnamon honey on banana, oreo on chocolate, chocolate salted caramel on chocolate, and raspberry on vanilla. Raspberry, cinnamon honey, and vanilla were the best. They use vanilla bean and fresh fruit puree in the frosting and you can taste it. Oreo was good but nothing special, and chocolate salted caramel was a little disappointing to me, but I have high expectations of cupcakes. I think it needed more caramel and a sweeter chocolate. The frosting seems to be an American buttercream, you can feel the sugar in the frosting, so it is a little sweet but it's also very light. The cupcakes are amazingly light and have a great flavor profile. Overall I was extremely pleased. I'll make it a point to come back if I visit NYC again.

I passed by this cupcake shop on my way to have my morning coffee and stopped on the way back to my nephew's apartment. When I looked it up, I was really curious what an icing shot was which was free with a Yelp check-in. There were so many variety of cupcakes that I really did have to have one. I chose the chocolate cupcake topped with strawberry buttercream. Both the cupcake and the icing was not overly sweet at all. Yummilicious! Their best seller is the salted caramel with chocolate so I got that for the icing shot. Really good! For those who live in the city, they offer baking classes where they also share the recipe. Love that they do not add food coloring to their icing. All natural from the fruit!

Absolutely terrible customer service. The cupcakes were supposed to come with real foods on top. when I ask for the fruits the person at the register said that they don't put the fruits because it's going to go bad but I told him I was going to eat it now but he still didn't give us the fruits. Very basic tasting cupcakes, nothing to be excited about. I do like the interior design.

Cute little cupcake shop! Loved that you can choose the cake first and then the frosting-so many delicious options. Nothing crazy fancy but very solid and fresh. Will definitely go back for more.

I accidentally crushed the cupcakes, they looked much better when I got them 😆 Super delicious cupcakes, I couldn't help myself to the coconut one before I took the picture. Cashier was also super friendly. Definitely a must try if you like butter frosting!

I like the bakery, especially the setting of order. They don't have fancy products, it's all about the combinations of cake and frosting. There are 3 kinds of cake bases- vanilla, chocolate and banana. The cake was moisture than the ones in other bakeries. The frosting was less buttery-like texture than others, which made it a good combination of their cake bases. I had chocolate+chocolate, vanilla+chocolate, chocolate+coconut, vanilla+strawberry. They all came out very good.

We love that you can mix and match your cake and icing flavors! Pretty good customer service as well. Sadly, the cupcakes were a little dry.

They made me my dream cake for my birthday. All I did was call in and describe/email a pic of what I wanted. It was beautiful and absolutely delicious. Even my friends who don't really cake enjoyed this one!
