"Bukhansan National Park: An Urban Escape Koreans love hiking, so it’s very convenient for Seoul dwellers that Bukhansan National Park is located a quick jaunt to the north of the city. Jutting granite peaks topped with assorted temples and pavilions make for a great day trip. Just be sure to dress appropriately. You’ll soon discover that Korea’s mountain trails are a catwalk of top-end hiking gear. Bukhansan’s claim to fame? Its proximity to one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas has landed it in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the national park with the highest number of visitors per square foot. If you can, go in the spring or fall when the foliage is at its most vibrant. Take subway line 4 to Gireum Station, exit 3."

Very steep at the end but there is metal rope you cam hold to climb. The view is amazing. I went there with my friends and it was really crowded because it was a public holiday. We started at 10 am. It took us 3 hours to go up, we spent an hour at the peak and then 2 hours to come down.

I started at 7am.. the trail took 4-5 hrs with breaks and lots of pictures. You should wear sturdy hiking shoes ! The trail markers are reliable enough but don’t be surprised to be lost because the trail can be ruined by natural causes. The view - amazing and totally worth it <3 be prepared to literally climb on your hands and knees and to use your core strength to pull yourself up :)

Took the reeking trail on the right and was in for an adventure. Early April still had some snow and ice on some parts around 500m. Cool views of giant Buddha a little under halfway of the hike, hidden in the mountains. Great views, a little challenging of a course but the trail is maintained. Met a few people along the way that were friendly and willing to help us with directions.

Absolutely a must do when in Seoul, especially if you’re an outdoor nature person who’s so sick of the city life. Views are 12/10 so pick a sunny and clear day if not you’ll totally waste your effort climbing. Before heading over, prepare some food and at least 1L of water. Climbing this mountain requires 12/10 of your effort as well. Definitely need to be above average fit if not reaching the top might be quite difficult. Endless stairs, terrain is a mix of steps and rocks, some parts can get quite slippery and tricky. We saw a heli-evacuation of someone who fell and injured her arm so it’s really not an easy climb!! Pro tip: If you see the temple- definitely go in to pray for strength.

It is so big that it has more than 50 access points. It has lots of peaks too! If you are a nature lover and you want to avoid the crowded destinations in Seoul, Mt. Bukhansan is the perfect place to go. The view is a just beautiful. It’s a mixture of Seoul city landscapes and nature. You’ll see a number of mini falls while hiking. Climbing to the top of Baegundae (the tallest peak) was a workout. My hiking thus far has not produced the billy goat legs I keep expecting to replace my own, so I struggled, huffed, and puffed my way to the top just before sunset. The colors were incredible once I got about halfway up. I couldn’t stop to take as many pictures as I wished since the light was fading fast and I had no clue about how much more hiking would be required until I reached the summit. There was also the issue of having too many beautiful things to photograph in every direction. 6 hours climb! Worth experience!

It was my first time trekking and climbing up this mountain was such a great experience. There’s a couple of resting areas along the way and very beautiful views.

A beautiful representative mountain of South Korea. If you are traveling to Korea, I recommend you to visit. a mountain well-matched with the city. It takes three and a half hours to get to the peak with the shortest course. The shortest route is to go up from Gupabal Station on Line 3 to Bukhansanseong Fortress entrance
