This popular West Village cafe, an LA transplant, serves mouthwatering oatmeal griddle cakes with crispy edges and a soft, sweet interior—no syrup needed.
"This all-day cafe in the West Village is an import from LA known for its oatmeal griddle cakes, which are pre-sweetened and served without syrup, and also its long lines on the weekends. The griddle cakes come in varieties like blueberry, banana nut, and chocolate chip, and they're thin and slightly crispy, with a very moist consistency. We're fans. The whole menu leans heavy, with savory items like fried chicken and egg sandwiches. Again—we’re fans. We have spent many hours in the line here on the weekend, although we’ve had better luck at their Brooklyn location. " - bryan kim, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah
"This all-day cafe in the West Village is a popular import from LA known for its oatmeal griddle cakes, which look like pancakes but are pre-sweetened and served without syrup. The griddle cakes come in varieties like blueberry, banana nut, and chocolate chip, and they're thin and crispy, with a moist consistency reminiscent of undercooked muffin batter. We're fans. As is the case for a lot of breakfast spots (especially in this neighborhood), you should get here early to avoid having to stand in line too long." - carina finn koeppicus, kenny yang, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah
"The griddle cakes are perfectly burnt along the edges. And even though I am a diehard for maple syrup, they don't even serve it with any syrup because there's the right amount of sweetness. I think it's a blackstrap molasses that they put in, topped with this cinnamon butter that's just unreal. There's the chewiness of the oats, the crispy edges, and they're just soft and undercooked in the center. They also have a really nice pork and a chicken sausage removed from the casing, flattened out as a nice little patty with ketchup on the side." - brennan carley

"The Wait: Breakfast By Salt’s Cure doesn’t take reservations, and it’s one of the most popular brunch destinations in the West Village. In order to eat here, you’ll have to wait 45 minutes or so in a line on 7th Ave. Most of the food at this LA transplant is very normal. The breakfast potatoes are fine, the scrambled eggs are scrambled eggs, and the fried chicken sandwich is pleasant in a generic sort of way. But this place is really good at pancakes. Made with oatmeal, their thin “griddle cakes” are crispy around the edges and gooey in the middle. You can even get them gluten-free. Verdict: Eh. We like Salt’s Cure, but an hour-long wait is a tough sell. It’s only worth it if you’re a serious pancake enthusiast." - Bryan Kim, Kenny Yang, Neha Talreja
