Placed a red velvet cake order for hubby's birthday. Wasn't sure what french cream was in the beginning, but it is now a must on all cakes we order. It's so decadent and less sweeter than butter cream and the cake inside was moist and fluffy. Will definitely come back for more.

Ordered a fruit tart. Phone service was a 5. They took the order. Pickup she seemed quick and not too friendly. Variety of fruit was colorful. The berries were amazingly sweet. I brought the tart to Sacramento area and shared it with family. Everyone was amazed at how good it tasted. Crust and custards (chocolate and vanilla) were flavorful. It was not cheap, but the quality was fantastic.

A fair-fitted bakery where the final presentation of the dessert selection is very well prepared and plated. I have enjoyed this place for a dessert break after a meal. I photographed a vanilla white cake with berries & pumpkin cheesecake. I would give it five stars, but the prices are too high to dine weekly.

You can tell. You can tell that the ingredients are now low quality, the fruit isn’t as abundant as before, and you (and your wallet) can definitely tell about the astronomical price hikes. A small 6 inch cake for nearly 60.00 dollars? I don’t know about you but that to me is a sure-tale sign that something is not right. Not only are you paying more for less, but the cheap taste of artificial sweeteners and the overly processed and overly sweet buttermilk frosting makes one reconsider buying from here again. The frosting is now about 2-3 inches thick, making the cake look bigger than it really is, and so this way there is less bread, less filling and less quality. I know times are hard but I expect quality products if I’m paying 2-3x the price for such a small cake. I’ll be buying my cakes from other bakeries from here on out.

Beautiful cake but I can tell that they’re probably changing to cheaper ingredients which is unfortunate but understanding in these times.The cake was still delicious but not as great as it used to be.

We absolutely love their cakes! They never disappoint and we always have our friends family take some home so they can enjoy more of it as well. This cake was chocolate, with chocolate mousse, vanilla buttercream frosting, ivory shavings and mixed berries ontop. I would say this was the perfect baby shower cake!

I literally get a cake every time I visit home because they’re so good. The French whipped cream and berries… it’s soooo good.

Holy cow, expensive but delicious. Got a slice of the berries cake - out of this world! It just hits the right spot and not overly sweet, light and airy and the berries just enhances the cake or maybe the other way round. But for $8+ for one slice, it is pretty steep but so so good. Oh the dilemma! Whole cake smaller size is about $50+ and the larger size is $70+. This place was buzzing and people keep coming in so there may be a bit of wait until you get to place your order. The Cherry puff was good too and cheaper

It's always amazing. Picked up a cake on our way to Santa Clara. so good. My favorite is the red velvet anything. They sell cookies as well.

It was a pleasure stopping in to this beautiful, small bakery! This was my first time stopping in and the gentleman behind the counter answered the few questions I had and recommended some of his favorites, which are mine! I got a whole bag of goodies for a pretty decent price in my opinion. My favorite had to been the strawberry waffle cup. The cream wasn't too sweet at all, and totally left me wanting more! There is not seating on the inside, but you can sit at the several small tables on the outside. What a great place to stop by and work for a little bit or enjoy a great conversation with friends.

This place usually has good desert, but can be a hit or miss sometimes. There are no tables inside, but there are a couple of 2 person tables outside. This place is better for a quick pick up and go. Today I tried the strawberry waffle cup and it was pretty good, but the cone was a bit soggy. Keep in mind, this was eaten a minute after ordering it. The strawberries and cream were pleasantly sweet, but not too sweet. You can order ahead for a cake and they'll write whatever you'd like on it.

It's a good small store for baked goods! I enjoyed the strawberry waffle cup (strawberries and cream in a cone) and my family loves their vanilla cakes (the ready-mad white one with fruits on top). The employees are always nice and there's plenty of parking as they are located in a plaza. There are a few two-person tables in outside the store you can sit at.

My go to spot for bday cakes! They never disappoint and service is always great. Their suggested serving portion is more than we can handle so I always purchase one side under what they suggest. My fave is their white cake, mixed berries, buttercream and chocolate shavings!

Completely overpriced for what you get. I always ask myself why I keep returning when we are in the area. This will definitely be the last time. The only cake that had me returning is the chocolate with chocolate mousse with fresh berries. The other pastries are typically dry and flavorless. The service provided is mediocre at best. I caught two of the girls whispering about another customer and making faces. As for the actual place it's decent size with some small outdoor tables and chairs. No seating inside.

I was looking for a superior cake for my MIL's 96th birthday party. I'm pretty relaxed about all party things except the food - in this case the cake. As I've never ordered a cake in the area (Camarillo, Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme), I did a lot of research and this bakery came up often. I visited the day before Thanksgiving to place an order and see things for myself. The shop was BUSY! I think that's always a good sign. A very nice woman assisted me, walking me through my options. She had a printed handout that I could also take my time to review the options. I was never rushed even with all the holiday shoppers. Once my order was complete, I was also given my price and was able to select my precise pick up time the following week. When I returned to pick it up - it was exactly as ordered: 9" chocolate cake chocolate mouse filling French vanilla whipped cream frosting milk chocolate shavings and mixed berries on top This cake was the hit of the party and worth every penny! This is my new go to for any bakery needs in the area. WOW and YUM! It's not inexpensive but you get what you pay for " )

Not sure why I have never left a review however, it's long overdue. Is it a requirement to only hire extremely rude employees? It has to be because everytime I have gone here the staff are rude and obviously bothered that I decided to come in. With the prices of the items here I would expect better but just alone being a nice human should be enough. Second, I ordered six or five baked items, I didn't want them to be smooshed in a bag (why would she give me a bag when all the items would be ruined was beyond me), I of course, asked for a box (again, really expensive desserts) she stated I could only have a box if I bought another item. WHAT!!! My total was already over $70 and I couldn't have a box? Or a smile or a thank you.

A bit on the pricey side. But super yummy. The cakes are kind of expensive but good, the zebra cookies are tasty. I think the fruit either apricot or berry in the center with layered sheets of dough on the outside is messy but tastes delicious. I believe it's a kind of puff pastry. It's a great spot for pastries in Camarillo. I like it.

Super friendly customer service even though I only bought bottled water for $1. It is one of my friend's fave bakeries so we stopped in. She bought some bread. Everything looked delicious.

Simply, the best fruit tarts. They were so delicious. I can't wait to try their cakes oh my gosh.

My first visit to the Bread Basket! I have tried to go before but they are closed on Monday's and Sunday's, so plan accordingly. I was in search of the perfect bread to go with an Italian inspired meal. Not many bakeries in Camarillo, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem. I picked up some herb mozeralla bread and it was delicious! Maybe a little dense and thick, but moist, and seasoned well. I popped it in the oven prior to dinner and it came out toasty and warm just like fresh baked, with crunchy little bits of cheese throughout. The staff were friendly and made good suggestions. They also offer all kinds of cakes, pastries, breads, rolls and much more! Lots of unique bbq sauces, jams etc. I will return and try their pastries.

This morning, I picked up 2 items. A lemon raspberry muffin and an almond danish. While I was there, a lady came in and complained about her purchase from yesterday being stale. I had part of the muffin on my way to work, there were no raspberries AND the middle was uncooked. I just shrugged it off, things happen so I threw it away. I decided to try the danish since I was disappointed with the muffin. The danish is dry and stale. I decided to call and inform them. Talked to Linda who never apologized but tried to argue with me about the products. I've had muffins and danish before, I know the texture and flavor they should have. She acted like I was lying! Horrible customer service!!! DO BETTER LINDA!

This small bakery has the most delicious cake!!! It's sweet like a pound cake but maintains a richer taste that's fluffy and light. The raspberry filling is not overly sweet and the whip cream frosting is exquisite! White chocolate shavings on top are a perfect addition!

Came in for a few treats to try, that whole random sweet tooth craving episode you know. Going in the store is always a pleasant experience for me, treats everywhere, the case is always stocked with cakes with an array of flavors, toppings and colors. I was greeted when I came in, the store is fairly small so it can feel crowded real quick, I would say 3 adults comfortably fit in while waiting to be served. I got the zebra cookie which is my favorite, it's basically a crinkle. A cookie-brownie hybrid that is dusted with confectioners' sugar. It what I expected it to be crisp outside and soft middle. Apple turnover was okay could be softer/flakier it was on the drier side as well as their brownie. Super curious to try their cakes because I've heard good stuff. I am a fan of the strawberry shortcake from Wholefoods and curious how this compares!

This is the #1 Bakery period! They use the freshest ingredients making the pastries and cakes! Believe me when I tell you, it is the kind of desserts you will never forget eating! If you are getting married, I highly suggest you go wedding cake tasting here- you will not regret it!!! Enjoy!!

Cute shop located on Daily Drive near Taco Bell in Camarillo. Lots of Sweets here, delicious desserts. They have pastries, coffee cakes, cookies, pies, tarts, muffins, breads, cupcakes & different cakes like specialty cakes even wedding cakes. These are definitely special occasion cakes for grand events such as birthdays, milestones, weddings etc. It is pricey here, so don't be surprised. Just don't forget to order regular cakes 48 hours in advance. Check out their online menu or browse my pictures to see what cake sizes are available, choice of cake flavor, choice of cake filling & decide on the available toppings such as icing, fruit & chocolate that they offer. I came in on a Tuesday morning, right when they opened & placed an order for Saturday pick up. When you schedule your cake pick up time, you can pick up your order anytime after, but give them at least 1 hour before they close of course. They need to confirm what the writing on the cake is & will decorate/write it out, so you need to wait a few minutes. I've tried a cupcake & a cinnamon roll, both were good. I am now a fan of their cookies. I'm drooling over the Chocolate Chip Cookies & will devour Zebra Cookies. They are so good! Even at $1.50 per cookie.

Cakes, Cakes, and more cakes!! It's been a while but now since I moved to Camarillo, I plan on enjoying some Bread Basket a lot more often! I was craving something sweet and delicious and I got myself a Red Velvet Cupcake. And OMG!!! What a treat! Not too sweet, fresh berries and the service was GREAT! Greeted with a beautiful smile ;)

My Husband and I walk this plaza 3-5 days a week always visiting Business. I went into this store got some tea for my Husband Early Grey ( nice and hot) Raisin cookie bar and a cheese danish for me they were so good and I try to visit this place on Fridays they have awesome stuff.

Even as a kid growing up, I never really liked cake even if it was on my birthday. I can't remember when, the occasion, or how many years ago it was when I tried the mixed berry white cake and well...the same cake and I seem to have crossed paths every past birthday of mine, what a coincidence #steveaoki

Quality has dropped during past year, cakes not fresh, the last special order birthday cake slices crumbled as it was placed on plates. I have ben. eating their cakes for 20 years . Something has changed to lower quality. Not worth the very premium price.

I had no idea this place existed and I'm glad we found it. When you walk in you're welcomed by the smell of all the fresh breads and you just want to order everything, which ... we did. Can't wait to come back and try more things. Plenty of parking and a bunch of other places to try in the area. Cool little spot!

I've been a customer of the Bread Basket Bakery for almost 40 years, but unfortunately that had to end yesterday. I moved out of town a while ago, but have plenty of family and friends that I've recommended this bakery to that have purchased cakes here based on my recommendations. I've ordered cakes, pastries, and breads for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, holidays, and the list goes on and on, for several decades. Yesterday, on Christmas Eve, I strolled into town for a visit, and decided to stop at the bread basket for coffee and dessert. After a long stare-down was given to my 21-year old daughter by the four young female workers behind the counter, we placed our order for coffee, cake, cookies, and a can of doggie cookies. I asked if they had a small to-go container that I could offer my pup a drink of water, and the four girls all looked at each other, laughed, then one said, "NO!" I was surprised to say the least, especially since I had purchased the doggie cookies. I walked outside and sat down at one of their tables and opened my box of cake, and discovered that she had given me the wrong cake, so I walked it back inside to be exchanged. They all seemed very inconvenienced and told me that I would need to walk the wrong piece outside to dispose of it in their outdoor trash. I asked, don't you have a garbage to throw it away? She said, "NO!", you have to throw it away outside! The manager came out front about that time so I asked her if she was the manager or the owner... I asked her if it's her policy that they do not offer water to their patrons who purchase, and she said, well, no. I explained to her what had happened and told her about the very poor service and attitudes I received from the four employees, and she just shrugged her shoulder's. I could accept the policy if that was truly their policy, but it was the attitudes that I can't accept. She gave me a cup of water for my dog, but I told her that unfortunately I will not be referring this business to my friends or family anymore, and I will personally never return. It's my understanding that Whole Foods has an outstanding bakery that offers better tasting cakes, and definitely offers better service... that's where I'll be doing my future business. And by the way - the service was so bad that I almost forgot to mention that the cake was very flavorless, had way too much cream in the middle, and barely any fruit at all... yuk! Not at all the way I remembered it! Thew it out in the "outdoor trash".

I loved this place! Every year I would get everyone a cake from here. Recently I'm not sure if they changed the way they make their cakes but it is completely different than before. The cakes used to be moist and yummy but now they just kinda fall apart when cutting into it. They are very dry and crumbly. Not to mention before these were the perfect cakes not to sweet not to bland they were perfect now it's way to sweet and just not the same. Before the cakes would be gone within seconds and people would get seconds and recently it doesn't get eaten and gets thrown out! I'm so sad that it has came to this because I really loved the cakes from here!!

On September 24, I received a voicemail message from Linda the general manager advising that their website got hacked and her email account was attached to the website so she did not receive ANY emails in September and consequently did not receive any of the emails that I sent to her. Apparently, another employee spotted my initial review and told Linda about my situation. Linda does not read any reviews that Bread Basket gets. She did apologize and said that Bread Basket had a refund for me, but as of today 10/6 I never received the refund that Linda told me I would receive. My one star rating still stands. I would be happy to change that if I receive a refund.

I bought a cake for my friend's retirement party. It was delicious and worth every penny.

Did they change ownership? They used to have day old products at a discount. I didn't see and today. I got one of their apple crunch pastries that used to be worth a drive from Thousand Oaks and I took a couple bites and threw it away Made some dinner and the loaf of sourdough bread was hard as a rock , which explains the lack of discounted items that are old. Had to be 3-4 days old What happened to this place, I noticed quite a few bad reviews here

Amazing! Delicious, Authentic, and how did I not know about this place? , we tried the white cake slice, a berry cheesecake, and my fav the is strawberry waffle cup! Everything was so good! Reminds me of a new York style bakery of the 80s!

Paul, Linda, and Gilbert were so helpful with our custom cake order and it did not disappoint! Bread Basket's cakes are always delicious but this one was extra special and we can't thank them enough for making my husband's retirement extra special! Our guests were completely wowed by it and even more wowed when they enjoyed not one but multiple pieces of cake! Their desserts never disappoint!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? Our cake COLLAPSED!! We opened it for Mother's Day and half of it caved in on itself! This use to be my mom's favorite cake place; she was so disappointed. Ruined her Mother's Day. $75 for a cake that just brought my mom's mood on her special day. Been coming here for years, and will not be returning; Major let down... do better.

Amazing cakes! We grew up coming here; and I was home hosting my sisters baby shower this last weekend. I emailed their bakers a few "inspiration" pictures and was so impressed with the final outcome! 3 tiers of books on top of the cake filled with rice crispy treat. Perfection! Thank you

Hands down the most delicious cake I've ever put to my lips. I travel all the way from Vegas to pick up one of these for special occasions! They have fresh bread and other pastries as well! Jams and cocktail mixers! All sorts of yummy goodies! My favorite spot to visit every year AT LEAST!

For the cakes I'll rate it five stars. I take off two stars for the supervisors and/or management. There is no good "vibes" here and workers are unhappy or not overly friendly and this is because of management. I've witnessed how one of the supervisors talks to the workers and I almost wanted to say something. You can't have good customer service if workers aren't treated right. You don't talk down to an employee in front of customers! Unprofessional and wrong. You can train and give tips to employees but there is a wrong way and a right way to do it! Hope Bread Basket takes note.

I love their cakes. Just perfect sweet(not too sweet ) especially their white cake with mix berries. But what I have today, the white cake . The cake itself is so dry and the frosting is over sweet. I think" do they change ingredients or bakers?" I feel so embarrassed because yesterday I highly recommended their cakes for my friend. Now I regret

I have bought cakes from the Bread Basket for years. I heard they have new owners now, but I assumed the quality of their cakes would be the same as it has always been. I ordered a chocolate custom cake for my son's graduation last weekend. It cost $350. When the party started and we cut into the cake, we realized it was white cake. Furthermore, the fondant covering was super thick, totally separated from the cake, and the cake itself fell apart once it was cut. Many of our 50 guests were shocked that it was a Bread Basket cake. I contacted the bakery for a refund for the disaster and was only refunded $200. So incredibly disappointing. Sadly, I will not ever order another Bread Basket cake again.

Customer Service Disaster! In weeks pas, I experienced a cake with white chocolate around the entire cake. I tried to order the same cake for my sister's birthday... Unfortunately, I used the wrong word when describing my order. When I went to pick up the cake, I saw it was like many others in the case... The girl behind the counter argued with me regarding what words I used to describe the cake, "you never said that word". Rude. I asked for the Manager, and the girl came back out and said, "the manger said she can do nothing for you". Disrespectful. Poor Management. I told my friends at the dog park about my experience and they ALL had a similar disappointing experience at the Bread Basket in Camarillo. Sad. They all said, "it use to be good''. Oh, never use the word shard for bark. The expert behind the desk schooled me.

My experience with this place great. I don't understand why it is low rated but after reading the reviews I see the most complaints because of their customer service but the cake and their pastries are beyond amazing. My family and I just moved to Camarillo and we found out go to place for cakes, this is amazing. I hope they stay in business throughout this pandemic. I went in a couple times since we moved here and they safely practice social distancing, wear masks and when I ordered my cake they helped me and payed attention to details. When I picked up the cake, they provided help by bringing the cake to my car. All my guests were satisfied with their cake and cupcakes! My guests asked the cake was from Porto's and everyone who knows Porto's knows how amazing they are.

NO MORE DELI?! I've been going to Bread Basket 20 years. I don't eat a lot of sweets and I don't like cake usually, but I went in to buy one for my daughter's birthday because she loves baking cake so a grocery store cake wouldn't do. It was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE but I tried a slice and thought it was delicious!! They have awesome pastries as well so I don't mind paying extra for those but the cakes were excessively priced imo. They USED to have some amazing sandwiches too! I would definitely pay $15-$20 on them for lunch but they stopped that service :( which makes it hard for me to go in for a pastry or overpriced party cake, like I used to. I used to drive 25 miles to order a cake because I looked forward to one of their amazing sandwiches and a few pastries to take home. Without the deli, I'm willing to spend less and spare some time at my local bakery.

I love their cakes - especially white cake fruit basket! However, their customer service over the phone when ordering a cake is horrendous. The individual I spoke with was very rude over the phone and not patient with me at all. I've been supporting this bakery for a long time, but it seems a lot of things have gone south. I'm not sure if I'll be coming back after this last cake order.
