Nestled on a bustling corner in Montrose, Brasil is a vibrant café featuring lush patios, stellar brunch options, and a rotating gallery of art.
"Located on Montrose’s other eponymous corner, Dunlavy and Westheimer, lies what could be considered a general purpose common area that’s coincidentally also an all-day cafe. Plus, Brasil’s cloistered patios are great for escaping whatever honking cars of roving packs of shopping-bag-laden teenagers you require respite from. Or maybe you just want a solid and quiet spot for a quick lunch, or to linger on a laptop with a glass of wine, all of which you can do at Brasil." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"If the Menil Museum’s greenspace is Montrose’s backyard, then the patio at Brasil, an American cafe, is Montrose’s atrium. Going from one of Houston’s busiest street corners to Brasil’s serene, plant-shrouded front and back patios is like stepping onto an entirely different planet. Everything looks green and dim. We half expect to hear spa muzak chiming through the speakers while snacking on a mid-day BLT or a pepperoni pizza, or grabbing pupusas and eggs for brunch. Lounge on Brasil’s patio from morning until night, or if you just need respite from the mean streets of Montrose." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"You wouldn't guess that this cafe is on a busy street corner. The covered back patio is filled with trees, and makes for the perfect diversion. Inside you'll find a rotating art installation, and next door in the old Domy Books, a gallery with even more. For a great date night, check Brasil's calendar for movie nights and live music events." - Curiosity and Curiosities
"This Montrose cafe’s double-pattied-up Cheesburger in Paradise has earned a cult following, and for good reason. Topped with pickles, bacon, and cheddar cheese, this luscious burger is also topped with a green, homemade jalapeno sauce that some claim is magic. Though served with your choice of salad, or regular or sweet potato fries, treat yourself and spring for the garlic herb fries for just $2 more." - Brittany Britto Garley
"If Houston had a quintessential town square, Brasil, an American cafe, would be the artsy alternative to a more traditional diner. Open all day, Brasil sits at the literal cornerstone of Montrose and serves a grab bag menu fit for nearly anyone who might wander in off of the busy street. You can hang out here with a laptop (you will need to request a new internet connection password every hour) for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a midnight snack on the weekends and probably never be interrupted or asked to move no matter how busy it gets. And while the food won’t blow your mind, it’s consistent. Plus there’s coffee, beer, and wine to suit whatever occasion, whether that’s snagging a table for eight, a quiet breakfast, or a late-night date post-game refuel. Duck into Brasil’s plant-lined for some city-style forest bathing or simply bask in the dim lighting and air conditioning until once again braving the concrete oasis of Montrose." - Chelsea Thomas
