On the Grid : Botanical Garden Kiel

"The Botanical Garden of Kiel opened its gates to the public in 1985 but is also an academic facility of the Christian-Albrechts-University. In the outside area of 8 ha as well as in seven big greenhouses, it offers a representative cross section of the flora of each continent. The Botanical Garden is ideal for plant lovers or a short vacation from everyday life. Open daily: 9:30am – 6pm" - Carina Hoffmann & Petrina Meier

One of the best botanical gardens we have visited. Just 40 years at this location but very well laid out with interesting information boards and plenty of seating. Super clean toilets and friendly staff. Easy to reach with public transport at regular intervals. Highly recommended for all plant lovers!

Went there with wintertime around the corner, so expectations not too high. Indeed, the open air plantlife refused to blossom. The greenhouses, one for each of the environmental types (tropical, subtropical, arid etc.) were spectacular! All information labels are in German, but with the AI tech we have now, that shouldn't stop non-German speakers to pay this Garden a visit. Surprisingly, entry was free of charge. At least at the time of our visit - end of October in a weekend. Warning! Beware of rogue cacti / cactuses. I was viciously attacked by a cactus guarding the entrance of the last greenhouse of the tour. Forgot to take pictures, but I'm sure there are plenty available already. Highly recommend.

Small, but lovely garden. I arrived there only one hour before closing times, but I enjoyed the greenhouses and the garden itself; would have loved to explore the greenhouses a bit more. You can see that the curators and the students pour their love into this place. Entrance is free, but you can support them by donating. One of the brochures that you can take away is incredibly well written. There is a bus station right in front of the garden. For visitors who come from other corners of Germany/ foreigners a café would make the experience even more pleasant.

Very nice place to spend a day. If you are a plant lover then there are a lot for hou to explore. Different plants from different parts of the world at one place looks amazing. It's a must visit if you are visiting Kiel. Entry is free. The area is well preserved. All in all a good place for a day out.

It's very different in every season! Like almost every few weeks you can see other flowers( in spring) You should definitely see it. Very easy to walk around and visit greenhouses. Enjoy!

I came with no expectations and was amazingly surprised! So big, many different areas. The greenhouses are beautiful! They even had some colorful poisonous frogs! (Behind glass, of course) When I went there was also a butterfly area, I don't know if that is there every time but if it is there, absolutely worth it
