"Marienhain, Brunswik. In the beginning of the 19th century Schleswig-Holstein and the city of Kiel belonged to the kingdom of Denmark.In 1807 the city of Kiel purchased a small area on the southern part of the Düsternbrooker grove, where you have a picturesque view over the Kiel Castle, the city & the Kiel Canal. The danish builder Axel Bunden constructed a Pavillon in form of an antique temple that was used as a tea house there.1808 the danish Queen Marie gave birth to her daughter Wilhelmine in the Kiel Castle. Regarding to this occasion, the pavilion & the area surrounding it were given to her as a gift – the area was named 'Marienhain' and the pavilion was from known as 'Marientemple'. In 1873 her daughter Wilhemine transferred the ownership of the Marienhain back to the city of Kiel.By the time the Marienhain sunk into oblivion.In 1934, the former Marientemple was modified into a memorial consisting a hall with an eternal flame and a list of the names of the dead soldiers from World War I. The memorial was destroyed during the second World War and an anti-aircraft gun was installed. 1948 The remains of the building were torn apart – only the platform and the old beech trees have been preserved."

"Forstbaumschule, Brunswik. The 'Forstbaumschule' was founded by August Niemann in 1785 as Royal Danish School of Forestry. One hundred years later, the school was moved back to Copenhagen and the area was modified into the first public park in Kiel in the style of an english garden. Today the 'Forstbaumschule' is a 12,5ha protected area with over 500 different tree and shrub types that houses one of northern germany's biggest beer gardens.Open daily: 10am – 1am"

"Aquarium GEOMAR, Brunswik. Ocean research has a long tradition in Kiel with outstanding international findings in the late 19th Century. The Geomar Institute operates world-wide in all ocean basins, specialising in climate dynamics, marine ecology, biogeochemistry, and ocean floor dynamics and circulation. The Aquarium of the Institute is small with only 16 basins with species from all around the world, but nevertheless worth a visit. The Opera House was built in the beginning of the 20th century and is located next to the Town Hall in the heart of Kiel. The University of Arts in Kiel plays an important role in the cultural life of the city, for it is the only officially approved University of Arts in Schleswig-Holstein. The programme of the school covers offers four different degrees: Fine Arts, Scenography/Interior Design, Communication Design and Industrial Design.Twice a year, at the end of each term, the school opens its doors to student applicants and art lovers. However, the yearly exposition called 'Einblick/Ausblick' is the main event of the year, with the presentation of works in every faculty, workshops, alumni meetings and parties. "Kieler Woche, Mitte. When Non-Kielers hear anything about Kiel, they always respond "Kieler Woche"! Almost 4 million people visit the biggest sailing event in the world every year. Since over 100 years it's taking place in Kiel in summer; nowadays it's always in June. There is a lot going on: yacht race, sailing boat parade, international food market, summer party, children activities and big fireworks. The walls of the café and bistro 'Bakeliet Kaffee' tell an interesting story about the post-War Germany for people to realize that they live in an open-minded tolerant society.
