Born Free Charters

Overall, a positive experience. You'll go to many great places, but will spend the vast majority of the trip on the boat as a consequence (it's 80 miles each way). Pros: You see swimming pigs, snorkel near an underwater plane, hold sharks, feed iguanas, go to a private beach; the employees were also very nice, and the food was alright. Cons: You only spend 15 to 25 minutes at each location (of which there were five) over the course of nine hours, meaning you'll spend more than 80% of your trip on the boat. When on the boat, you'll be traveling at maximum speed (allowing you to visit all the places), but I found this extremely loud. Perhaps bring earplugs if your ears are sensitive. Also, this is not cheap; it was $1208 for my family of three. If you'd rather budget, taking the $99-per-person boat to Rose Island might be a good deal; you can see swimming pigs there as well. Overall, I would recommend it, but know what you're getting into.

The trip was AMAZING! Super nice owner and very friendly staff:)) my favorite part was the snorkeling! We saw so many colorful fishes and we got a snack after that! Well organized and fun! Recommend!

We had the best day with captain Cameron, Chris and Wilton! Best crew we’ve ever experienced during an excursion. We went to a beautiful sand bar, swam with adorable pigs, sea turtles and sting rays. I really appreciated that all of the wildlife we got to enjoy was in their natural habitat. The crew was informative, friendly, professional and just all around great vibes. I would recommend them and these tours to anyone looking to get a real sense of island hopping and seeing the Bahamas at their best!

We has an awesome day island hopping with Born Free charters. We left on time and had a safe enjoyable boat ride out to the islands. We really enjoyed feeding the iguanas, nurse sharks and piggies. We also got to scuba dive around a sunken airplane. Lunch was also provided at Lorraine’s cafe. The food and service was top notch! The crew also provided water, soda s and beer all throughout the day!!!

We had an awesome time. Captain Willy and his son were great. Very professional and know how to handle a boat in rough water and find fish. Fun guys too. I charter a few of these trips a year and these gentlemen were top of the line. Ask for Willy.

Absolutely amazing!! We (a private party of five) had the pleasure of experiencing a half day on Free Spirit touring some beautiful scenery, snorkeling, visiting Gilligan's Island, visiting majestic sea turtles, and having what turned out to be a great lunch with drinks at Footrpints Bar and Grill. Couldn't have asked for a better crew in Janton and Joey! They were an amazing team and treated us to very special experience. Worth every penny 🙏 We hope we are fortunate enough to come back and relive the experience again some day.

Best. Excursion. Ever. I’ve dreamed of going to Exuma and Born Free Charters made my dream a reality! The boat and crew were awesome! The crew were very attentive, keeping us stocked up on beverages (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic). The seating is bench seating under a canopy for shade, with space to sit in bean bag type chairs on the bow. I sat on the bow most of the time. I loved it, but also I did get a bit wind burned from sitting there so beware. I was happy to sit there 1: for the view and 2: for the space. It took us about an hour to get to our first stop, Allen’s Cay. It is literally a tiny island populated only by iguanas. So cool. The crew gave us lettuce to feed them. Next we went to Pablo Escobar’s sunken plane. We stopped there and snorkeled for about half an hour. It’s interesting because depending on the tide, this stop might occur at a different time in the tour. You could even stand on the wing of the plane. Super cool experience. Then we visited Pig Island. Don’t get confused by other tours that say they are going to Pig Island (Rose Island), this stop is at the original island where the pigs are actually wild. The crew told us the history of it, the real swimming pigs originated in Exuma. The pigs were so friendly! They swam right up to our boat! Sadly we did see one pig get injured on another boat’s prop. Poor thing, there’s obvious no way to get it medical attention way out there :( anyhow, the rest of the pigs were perfectly happy. They had a little pen for piglets on the island but that was the only man made structure. We got so many great pics with the pigs! My dream came true! We also stopped at a place where nurse sharks like to hang out. This is completely natural, no nets or pens, the sharks swim here by choice. I’m sure the treats the crew gave them help lure them there. We crawled down a long ladder from a dock and we’re immediately surrounded by nurse sharks. They swim right up to you and bump into you like they’re saying “Hey! Pet me!” If you are curious, they are not slimy. They feel like a leather couch, weird. The crew was knowledgeable about the nurse sharks and told us some cool facts. They wrangled the sharks so each of us could hold one and get photos. I didn’t really swim with the sharks, just stayed in the shallow part where I could stand up. We stopped at another cay for a buffet lunch. It was delicious! Several kinds of meat, macaroni and cheese, other sides. So yummy! The ride back took about 1.5 hours. I listened to the music on the boat and was lulled into a nap in my bean bag chair. We were dropped back off at the dock around 4pm. Amazing day from start to finish! I highly recommend this excursion! I’m coming back in 2024 and plan to take the Born Free Eleuthera excursion, can’t wait to come back!
