The 38 Best Restaurants in Seoul, South Korea | Eater

"Born and Bred is a three-story paradise for hanwoo aficionados. The three above-ground floors operate as different concepts: a butcher shop, a private dining space, and a casual restaurant where you can enjoy a traditional barbecue meal. While the casual restaurant promises a superb experience, try your luck securing a spot at the exclusive basement counter. The meal features just about every cut of Korean beef and it’s become a benchmark for countless high-end barbecue restaurants. Know before you go: Be sure to double check your booking and the menu, since the floors are really different." - Matty Kim

"Born and Bred is the brainchild of Jeong Sang-won, whose obsession with top-quality Korean beef started young, thanks to his beef purveyor father. Jeong created a one-of-a-kind space that offers three different dining concepts. The casual eatery on the second floor has been inspired by the butcher restaurants that populate the vicinity of the Majang Meat Market, but it is decidedly more modern and refined. The butcher lounge occupies the first floor while the third floor offers a multi-course beef experience. However, for a taste of what the restaurant is truly all about, head down to the basement for the chef's specialty beef course." - Michelin Inspector

The Best Barbecue in Seoul: 14 Must-Try Restaurants | Eater

"The name of this restaurant in Seongdong-gu is an homage to the Majangdong meat market, where owner Jeong Sang-won’s father worked. Born and Bred started as a private social dining club showcasing only the most pristine Korean beef to exclusive guests, inspiring countless modern Korean beef restaurants with its practice of serving different cuts as courses. In early 2019 the business expanded into a three-story building, where each floor operates as a different concept: a butcher shop, casual restaurant, and private dining. For a full-on Born and Bred experience, take your shot at one of the seats at the basement counter, an intimate space usually reserved for groups, where the restaurant puts on a hanwoo extravaganza featuring just about every cut of Korean beef." - Matty Kim

"Rank: #36 "You’ve heard of wagyu, but how about hanwoo? To put it into perspective, wagyu is to Japan what hanwoo is to South Korea. Little known outside of its home country because it’s rarely exported, hanwoo is a breed of cattle indigenous to Korea that is prized for its fat-marbled flesh (with prices to match). However, top-grade hanwoo is laced with less unctuous white fat and ultimately yields meat with a balanced fat-to-flavour ratio."

This was our second visit to Born and Bred, and we had the omakase dinner in the basement, and it was wonderful. I love how the chef speaks excellent English and takes time to explain the meat, its context, and even some history behind it. It’s truly an experience. Their cocktails and wines are also surprisingly great. They are definitely worth trying. I was getting so full toward the end of the course; they really make sure you leave satisfied and content. If you want to taste a variety of the highest-quality meats in Korea, I highly recommend Born and Bred. It’s not cheap, but absolutely worth trying at least once in your life. :)

This experience was 10 out of 10. We had a lovely time. If you show up a few minutes early they have a nice waiting area in which you can view the butchers plating up platters. The staff were very welcoming. We had the multi set course in the speakeasy. The food was great. It was well paced and each plate was well thought out. The mid course breaks (a shot of of kambucha and a delightful yuzu bute) came right on time to help settle and cut through the delicious courses of beef. It was a wonderful experience.l from start to finish. Added some pictures of our favorites bites. Come hungry and you wont be disappointed.

A fantastic Michelin star restaurant with over the top service, rare meats, and world-class chefs. The attention to details on every serving is unbelievable! They keep your plate clean at all times. They keep your eating area perfectly organized at all times. The chef carefully explains each dish as he prepares the ingredients and tells you how to eat it to get the best flavor from these rare meats. All the fishes were prepared to perfection. The staff keeps your wine full and water filled at all times. We had 16 guests in our party and there were 10 serving staff. So the service is meticulous and flawless. A true Michelin experience everyone must try. Great for corporate executives and VIP guests.

Chef was so friendly and informative! I loved the beef pie (made for David Beckham when he visited) It was a lot of food so try not to eat too much before. We really enjoyed the palate cleansers in between as well 🙂

Great dinner after we heard so much about the restaurant. For a first timer, we chose the causal dining menu. My advice is to come very hungry as it’s a lot of food. A 5 course menu is deceptive cos it includes a beef platter with 6 cuts of beef. The server who grilled the meats advised on the condiments that go best with the meats. Of the other courses, I liked the beef tartare as well as their signature pho.

My wife and I had the private dining menu and the food and cooking blew us away. The speed of the cooking and serving, and the amount of food was so perfect. For big eaters, we walked away very satisfied - such greag value! We had such an amazing meal and will be back next trip to Korea!

The 20-course Hanwoo beef omakase might sound intense, but it's beautifully balanced. Between the rich, buttery cuts of premium hanwoo, they include thoughtful palate cleansers like mango and sea pineapple to keep your taste buds refreshed throughout. If you still have room by the end, you can ask for seconds of the savoury beef cheese pie. It's delicious, and the staff is more than happy to bring you another serving. Service is smooth and professional. The chef explains each course with just the right amount of detail, informative without being overly formal. It's definitely at a premium price point, but considering the quality, creativity, and overall experience, I'd rate it 8.5/10

If you’re in Busan, and you want to treat someone (yourself), go eat at Born and Bred. Excellent service, even better food. The chef prepared the meat omakase style and it was well worth it. Great experience! Reservation can be annoying, but well worth it!
