Went here for the first time a few days ago and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really nice spot to have a great beer and relax. I had the blueberry sour and it's definitely in my top 5 sours I've ever had. There's plenty of seating and it's dog friendly!

Came here on a weekend afternoon to try some beers. There are picnic tables outside and they had a Mexican food cart in front of the brewery. This is a nice brewery tucked away in La Mesa. Unfortunately I didn’t care too much for the beer selection that they had, there was nothing that really well with me, but I really enjoyed the location and the staff were very friendly. I will pop in another time when the tops rotate to try out some more beers.

Our server was great, she was very friendly and welcoming. I would suggest that she write orders down, I had asked for a bacon cheeseburger, when it arrived it had no cheese, she apologized and offered to have it corrected. Not entirely sure it was her fault, it’s possible the kitchen missed it, none the less the burger was excellent and I enjoyed it. My friend was torn between her sides, fries or fried zucchini and the server suggested she get a 50/50 mix. This is a great spot to sit relax drink a cold beer, get a quick bite and watch San Diego walk by. I loved the countertop that faced the side walk, great view down to the water. I would suggest adding the fried pickles that comes as the burger garnish as a side option, I’m sure people would order them.

The outdoor atmosphere is great and the beer is amazing. Bolt brewery is great for events, watching the game, or hanging out with some friends. I highly recommend it. Update: so Bolt now has breakfast! The bacon and potatoes are tasty and have a great crunch. The breakfast burrito is really filling and super flavorful. Really good place to come with a unique San Diego vibe.

Bolt is a fun brewery. I love that it is all outside (mostly under shade) with kind of modular buildings - pretty unique! 21&up on Friday and Saturday nights, but family friendly all other times. Check them out for quality food trucks and live music.

The beer was ok. However, the comedy night puts the establishment quality review in question. It was really bad the first time we went, but we decided to give it another chance. We only saw 15 seconds. The MC, and presumably the person putting the show together, started off bet saying that the shooter at the Trump rally should have done better. We average 1-2 comedy shows around the country per week, and are more than willing to accept political humor even if we disagree with it. But I assume that every readable person realizes this Is going too far!

I really liked this place! I enjoyed all the beers they had to offer (mango me crazy or wrecking ball were the best)...The staff was great and the place was clean...I thought the prices were good as well..Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Bolt bolted. 1-star for this Bolt Brewery La Mesa location for closing. 5-stars to not sully Bolt's good name. Unfortunately the late opening hours prevented us from visiting more often. We only made it in just the one time. We looked forward to more visits, but alas, it is not to be. Here's hoping something just as cool moves in. We miss you already Bolt!

Took an Uber here to watch comedy under the stars night on Saturday Nov 16 only to find out it was closed and nobody home. Others were outside wondering what was going on. I had to buy tickets on eventbrite and the website kept sending me emails of reminders for the show only to be disappointed when the whole facility was shut down even though the sign outside said the place opened at 2pm. Not acceptable and ruined our entire night. This place is not to trusted if you plan to go for any event or better call to make sure it's open first!

Great little place. I've seen the brand at bars. Never been here. Definitely glad I changed that. Vendor event going on. Service was good. Recommend a great choice for me.

Beer: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambiance: 2.5 stars Food: 3 stars We are summertime regulars at bolt. Their beers are very good and while they have a narrower variety than the brewery down the street the quality is much higher in my opinion. The service is always phenomenal and the back area is a great area for kiddos to have fun without bothering the non-children having folks up front. Food is somewhat variable but it's usually tacos and they're pretty good. Highly recommend! I do wish they'd have more live music on weekends.

Husband and I went here for a quick bite and some beers. We were happy to see that there was a hotdog vendor there and the food went well with our drinks. There was a private event when we went so most of the patio seating was available with heat lamps around us. The service is more pick up vs table side service, which we didn't mind. The only thing I would advise others is to be prepared for the very limited parking around this area.

Super cool outdoor area with string lights and picnic benches, and great variety of interesting beers. I got the hard pressed orange cream ale which was delicious and tasted exactly as it sounds, and boyf got the blonde bliss which he enjoyed too. They have live comedy in the back for free on Saturdays at 8 pm- fun date night option for sure. The bartender was friendly and cool, and when we got to the show a bit late, the host grabbed us a table and stools which was so accommodating and nice! Would definitely return in general, and for their comedy shows :)

Really enjoyed our first visit to Bolt. Boyfriend even got me a cute tank top and sticker for my collection. Beer was delicious and atmosphere was relaxing. Very cute place. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Jean was my server and did an amazing job! Quick! Excellent burger, fries and a drink for less than $15!!!

The bartender was super cool and welcoming. They had a lonchera right outside before you go in at the seating area and the tacos were juicy and bomb. The only thing is that there is no nearby parking but also didn't mind the walk ;) still will come back when I pass by the area again

This is a cool little spot with two outdoor areas (one in the back) we have been a couple times and the beers are great, staff are nice. They have sports games on, but you can also sit away from the TVs. One of the times we went had tacos also that were fun. Great spot to get away from the kids and enjoy a good beer, food when they have it, and generally good ambiance.

Hazyville and Orange Hard pressed were delicious drinks. Bartender was friendly and gave great recommendations for what to do around the area. Comedy night was funny and had great laughs the whole night.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and all around awesome vibes. The beers were super refreshing and they have a lot of outside seating. They also have a huge selection of clothes! I didn't try any food but I can't wait to come back!

Meh, mediocre beer served by a staff who have all the energy and enthusiasm of a teenager working retail. Skip this place at both of their locations.

Small brewery with a nice outdoor area. The Ur Pils represents the best of the best. I have not found a better Pilsner. In a recent tasting, it was judged to be better than Pilsner Urquell.

I like Bolt Brewery, been here lots of times, pre Rona. They had a really good comedy show last night. However.... let's get back to MENS & WOMENS restrooms! Both restrooms were "gender neutral" and both smelled like urinals, so bad do I was gagging and couldn't even use what USED to be, the women's restroom, hence no actual urinal in it. Let's face it, most men are pigs and we shouldn't have to be subjected to piss all over the seat, rim and floor. It's DISGUSTING! I had to have the Beertender clean it, which took an hour, so until then I couldn't use the filthy, smelly bathroom! Totally unacceptable!

Not a bad brewery at all. Parking looks scarce though (we were lucky to nab a spot right in front though). Place is right off the 8 freeway and El Cajon Blvd exit in La Mesa. The set up is a total outdoor vibe with live music (a lady was performing to a guitar the Sunday we were here), various table games (Jenga and Battleship), and it looks like they have some other games here as well (thought I saw corn hole). They throw in free food as well after you spend a certain amount with a "while supplies last" disclaimer. We nabbed a few free hot dogs today with a flight of beer. I saw signs for free pizzas on certain days as well. It's actually a smart concept as people will buy more beer with the food so good thinking on management's part.

The beer here is average. Not the best I've had in San Diego, not the worst (see Groundswell). The venue is very endearing. Clean bathrooms, nice lighting, nice picnic tables, great lighting. The bar tenders were nice. Note that the clientele is a slightly older La Mesa / East County / El Cajon crowd. I think we were the only 30 somethings. A pretty friendly fun place with okay beer and bad music.

The sitting area is outside, which on a cool (50's) night I would not have expected it to be so busy, but the heaters really helped.It was raining earlier, so some tables were wet. I asked for towels to wipe down one of the wet tables so we could hang out because there was limited seating. The atmosphere tonight was fun because they had a band that played mostly rock classic songs from the seventies or eighties. The beer is very good. I had tasters of two of their triple IPA's. They were good but a bit strong in terms of the sweetness and viscosity for me. Overall I like the beers and would bring my friends here to try it, especially ones that are beer lovers. I'm glad to have this Brewery nearby. They had a wood fire pizza food truck here and I'd wished I was hungry because it smelled good.

In the start, I was having trouble finding a venue for my wife's 50th birthday. I was looking for a place that had clean surroundings as well as some built in entertainment. A place that didn't look out dated yet not too super upscale. I also needed a place that could accommodate around fifty people. So that's where the problem began. I couldn't find a place that fit all these things I needed for this party. I was still a month away but I wanted to book something before it was too late. That's when a friend from work suggested maybe a brewery. A brewery? Would of never thought of throwing a party at a brewery but why not? I love beer. My wife loves beer. A lot of our family and friends love beer. So with that suggestion in mind I did some investigating. With luck on my side. The party gods smiled on me. My search started and ended on the first brewery I reached out to- Bolt Brewery in La Mesa. Communicating through emails at first. I ended up talking to two ladies- Allyson and Molly. I mostly conversed with Allyson but both ladies were so awesome. We discussed pricing and specifics which were exactly what I was looking for. Perfect. There were other places (halls, venue spaces) that I reached out to before Bolt that were more expensive, not as nice and had no perks. With me renting a partial space at Bolt Brewery. I received free drink tickets. Good for beer, wine and soft drinks. As far as wine. They brought in wine just for my party. Perfect. The brewery doesn't serve food but let me bring in food for the party. So I brought in some catered dishes. It was Hawaiian themed so I even brought in a whole roasted pig. The brewery had no problem with me bringing it in. Perfect. For the party, my god daughter even made a video montage of my wife. The brewery let me play the video on their large screen TV monitor for my invited guests to see. If that wasn't enough. They had bean bag toss (cornhole), backyard Jenga, backyard Connect Four and a disc golf basket for party guests to play games. Perfect. Overall, Bolt Brewery exceeded my expectations by meeting my needs. Why compromise when you can get everything you want? Throwing my wife's party was nothing less than perfect. Thank you Bolt Brewery. You guys rock. Perfect.

Fun craft beer brewery in a commercial district in downtown La Mesa out in East County. Relaxed and casual vibe with good beer, games, kid friendly areas and a food truck parked out front, come on down after work kind of local spot. I really liked the mango beer and hubs enjoyed the IPA.

My favorite brewery in San Diego. Great beer and great food. Great location. Everyone is always friendly there. Staff always takes good care of you.

Nice outdoor brewery that is both kid and dog friendly. I really like the option of getting a flight, satisfying my indecisiveness. There are several games to play, including a giant Jenga and Cornhole. Service was quick and friendly.

Staff don't wear masks, no gloves, no apparent effort to show they care about spreading the virus. NO THANKS. Go around the corner to Helix, or to Fall, and see how it's done right. Bolt makes my favorite beer in La Mesa, and I've always enjoyed going there, and the staff are nice. I'd really rather not have to write stuff like this, but this stuff is important and if people don't do it right, it's going to get bars shut down, as we're seeing all over Southern California now. It's not that hard to do right. Some points from the California Dept of Public Health guidance for face coverings: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/CDPH%20Document%20Library/COVID-19/Guidance-for-Face-Coverings_06-18-2020.pdf "Persons exempted from wearing a face covering due to a medical condition who are employed in a job involving regular contact with others should wear a non-restrictive alternative, such as a face shield with a drape on the bottom edge, as long as their condition permits it." So any staff who have a medical condition should be required to wear a face shield. Also, anyone is required to wear a mask: "While outdoors in public spaces when maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet from persons who are not members of the same household or residence is not feasible" It was clearly impossible for our maskless bartender to do her job at a distance of 6 feet. We made our order and she said "I can't hear you." So we had to move closer. Finally, we never saw her once wash her hands between customers, taking credit cards, giving out paper and pen for orders, etc. Honestly Bolt isn't just doing enough "for me" but are failing to adequately conduct business in a safe way for the public. Please do better and we'll come back.

This place gets packed, so be prepared. The space around the bar, the tables out front, the tables tucked in the back...when we were there, there were people here-there-everywhere. It got a bit claustrophobic. The girls working the bar were friendly and helpful, but it was hard to communicate clearly due to the sound level, which that night was at an 11. There are a few tables up front, but don't despair if they're all full. Venture around the corner of the building to find a quieter space with a few additional tables and a game of corn hole set up for your pleasure. As a music venue, I'd say the space is decent. Not really ideal, with the "stage" setup right next to the bathrooms and in front of the brewery, but it worked out alright. The sound quality wasn't terrible, but we did manage to find a bench right in front of the stage. The bathrooms are one-holers, so you should expect a line. It was clean-ish, given the number of women using it that night, but it did have a bit of a smell... The beer, though. I had tried a few of their brews while at some beer festival or another, but didn't really know what to expect from the brewery. My first round was a flight of all the nitro offerings they had on tap. Very good, but I did have to wait for them to pour every variety. The settling of the beer, you know. Second round was the orange brew that I fell in love with. Third round was a stout...and I don't remember much else from that night. =)

When I first walked into the brewery, my eyes were drawn to the beer menu posted on the entry side of the bar. It was brightly colored and easy to read, boxed into sections, some with little drawings, making my decision of which beers to order much easier. I loved the lights and the bright orange theme, with the bolt symbols - it definitely made the brewery stand out. I would definitely return to this brewery again, as would my friend who came with me. We loved the open environment and how bright it was. The turf and wooden tables really contributed to the welcoming feeling, and the fact that customers can bring dogs and that there are games like Jenga. The beer was great and I loved the little glasses used in the flight. The bartender, Adam, was very friendly, helpful, and attentive, which made my experience positive. He was able to attend to everyone in the bar in a very timely and efficient manner and seemed genuinely happy with his job. You can tell that a lot of the customers are regulars and love coming to the brewery. After selecting a few beers for my flight, I was having a conversation with the bartender about how we both like the flavor of stouts and porters. Since we both don't like hoppy beers, he suggested that I order a brown ale, which was great. My favorites that I would recommend are the North of the Border Porter (unique 10% ABV and deliciously flavorful) and the Nitro Dan Stouts (smooth, creamy, and easy to drink - I could easily drink quite a few pints). The Juice is Loose and the Brown Ale were also tasty. Parking is very limited so I would suggest parking around the corner in some street spots.

Great place a little hard to get to and a little confusing off the main street. Great beer and really good craft beer selection.

A nice brewery in La Mesa that takes advantage of Southern California's amazing weather. I.e. the only indoor spaces here are the bathrooms. Everything else is open air, including the bar, communal seating area with TVs and yard game area (complete with a disc golf basket--nice touch). They even have a spot for local food trucks to pull up and slang some fresh bites. A very cool experience overall. There were even a few babies runnin' around at like 8pm on weeknight while their parents sipped on some hoppy craft brews. Dogs friendly, too. I'm sure you could show up shirtless and barefoot and no one would gaf. Like if you're homeless with a baby and doggo in tow, this would be a pretty OK spot to hang if you rounded up a few bucks to buy some brews. I tried the Pils and the English Pale Ale and both were quite tasty. Service was fast and friendly, despite it being pretty crowded. Rain is the only thing that'd put a damper on this spot. Luckily it's rained about twice ever in La Mesa.

Great table spacing for covid. They did have a good truck there with ok food. Overall I felt safe to be there and it wasn't super crowded. I was the dd so I only got a few sips of beer which were good! Family and dog friendly I could see myself going back with my pup!

Another San Diego gem! You can't really go wrong; it gets crowded fast, and a very local crew that hangs out - be prepared for that! But, great beer, they usually have something going on music wise and it's a fun, compact vibe that makes it great.

For starters I am not much of a drinker, especially not beer, so this is really not the ideal place for me. That being said I still had fun here, the vibe is very chill, I love that they set out board games and have live music. Outside seating only, the space is pretty unique with a walk up window and about 8 choices. We got a sampler of each, a great deal at $1.50 a piece and perfect if you don't want to wind up with something you don't love. While I loved none of them, they were all pretty strong and super flavorful, that is for sure because I am not a beer drinker. I could tell the quality and care they put into their brew here and loved that they sold beer in all sizes, even huge bottles to go! Service and atmosphere was really exceptional, a fun place and different from anything I have been to in OC or LA, so for that I am a fan and can recommend for anywho who loves beer!

We had a pretty good time here the other day. It was fairly warm, but there was a good amount of shade and a nice breeze. Of course cold beer helps. We brought my son along to check this place out, I had read from other yelpers reviews that it's kid friendly during the daytime. I also checked their website: boltbrewery.com and saw there would be live music and wood fired pizza. The stash of board games is a definite draw. We grabbed Yatzee and while neither Walter nor I could remember how to play exactly, we still managed to have fun despite getting our butts kicked by a little kid. They also have the giant Jenga game. We ordered two small flights and shared. I had Walter order because he knows a lot more about beer than I do. We tried 10 out 12 of the beers they had available, I think. I liked most of them. The ones I enjoyed were probably the Citra Pale Ale, the Dan Stouts Nitro, the Itty Bitter ESB, and the 3rd Shift Pale Ale. I ended up ordering a pint of the Citra Pale Ale. The service was good. The guys were friendly. There's also a yelp check-in offer right now for 10% off your order of $10 or more. They have apparel available for sale. There is a small amount of snacks available. Parking isn't an issue on the weekend. And it's super close to the freeway exit.

Fun and spacious brewery with tasty beer selection and games. No one under 21 allowed after 7pm, great for large groups and dogs are welcome. Parking kind of sucks though.

This is our go to spot to hang with our best friends on the weekends. It's a very warm and welcoming vibe with ample seating. I like that it features lots of different styles of beer rather than being as IPA-centric as a lot of local breweries. The hard-pressed orange and the mango beer offer a great alternative as does my personal favorite, Loca Lemon. They seem to have some trouble keeping the Loca Lemon in stock so I often go to the other 2 options. My husband likes the OG IPA and the stout is killer as well. The staff are friendly and accommodating. We really like everyone who works there including Ally, Bre, Adam.... Anthony is amazing. He provides great customer service and makes sure we're always "good". KUDOS to the whole crew!

This a great neighborhood brewery located in La Mesa right off interstate 8. It's mostly an outside seating brewery, well actually it is, except for the 10 barrel system located inside a small warehouse and and bar area, where the keeps serve up Bolt's fantastic brew. I ordered a Bolt Pilsner or Czech Pils 16oz pint for $6. The pilsner was light and refreshing with a crisp finish. I am a big fan of Pilsners and this one hit the spot as pilsner go. I like this sort of beer because it is easy on the palate and it's a great way to set yourself up for some more aggressive hoppy beers. The girl bar keep was very nice, had a great personality, and made idle conversation. Seating is comfortable and smartly spread around. If you check their web site, you find out what days they have food vendors available, events, and entertainments; such as, the band that was playing the evening I visited. Great small brewery and with great people.

First visit. I'll be back when they replenish their beer supply. There was a fundraiser the prior weekend and all the IPA and pale ale kegs were emptied out by thirsty supporters. Bummed out, but now I'm anxious to return for freshly brewed beer. Located in the La Mesa industrial loop adjacent to I-8, this outdoor beer garden is a great sanctuary to enjoy the fine SoCal climate year round. You can belly up near the taps, or relax in the seating area between the bar and the brewing tanks. If I had the means, I'd want my back yard to look similar, plus maybe a shade tree or two. Today's beer flight: - pilsner - belgan tripel - nut brown - chocolate stout As l was just about to finish a round, they tapped a fresh keg of mango ale. Very sweet and light. The kind of refreshment in time for when the weather warms up. On Wednesdays, food is available for purchase and cooked to order by The Hills neighborhood bar. They switch up between chicken wings and this time they were grilling up tasty $5 cheeseburgers. Go check out the hoppiest comeback ever at Bolt Brewery.

My wife and I were on a hike near La Mesa and was rewarded with an IPA at a local San Diego Tap Room. This place is in an industrial park with the taps coming out of a container from one of those sea worthey container ships. I ordered the IPA and it was delicious and there were some other beer lovers enjoying life at 2 on a Thursday. Not a lot of food trucks, but you can BBQ on their BBQs on the side. A fun place.

I've been coming here for almost two years now and for the most part, it's getting better. Not to mention that Little Italy is open and has food. I love the selection and most of the peeps that work there are awesome. Sorry, there's not really a way for everyone to be awesome, some have to be average and some amazing. All I've got left to say is that Nicole needs to quit stalking me. You know what I mean ;-)

Ok so going to be honest, had to go to the restroom, yelped brewery because who wants to hold it til you get home?? Saw this place, and well we left with a growler, tank top, 2 koozies that fit on a beer glass and a sticker. Oh and used the bathroom twice before leaving because they were clean & The beer was amazing. The staff by the way was better!!! Defiantly going to remember this place. Also a food truck was pulling up as we were leaving!!

Great place for a date, even a first! Games like connect four, jenga and battle ship. Beer is great too! Always a different food truck. Overall great vibe! Go and enjoy yourself! Oh- good service too!

Meh. Beers are so-so. We got chips and salsa and it was like cheap grocery store chips, a tiny container of bottled salsa, and we paid extra (I think--my friend paid).) for what turned out to be a tiny container of store-bought premade guacamole. Seriously? They had a forklift parked out in the area and a pallet leaning against the wall (I used to work at Costco--that's a safety hazard and it looks terrible). Pretty disappointing overall. The picnic tables in the sun were nice.

First experience here was pretty f**king awesome! Did a Brewery Crawl and this was the fourth brewery we had visited on a Thursday! So firstly DOG FRIENDLY. They have treats! its located near Helix Brewing Co and Sourworx in La Mesa.. It was 9pm when we arrived and Zach was very knowledgeable and friendly! He's an asset at Bolt! He gave us a tour and we tried a few different IPAs. The beer was great, we left with a 32 oz and a plan to return. The space is huge! There are games,(yes giant jenga etc) I was struck when I saw bbq grills outside in the back and plenty of tables! Totally great spot for chilling with peeps. We are excited to return and to bring a few friends who haven't been. Cheers.

I enjoy coming here during Wednesday night trivia. Always packed and there's a food truck there for a bite to eat. Staff is always very upbeat and they have a great selection of beer. Parking is pretty tough here Wednesday nights but cool outdoor environment to hang with friends! Pup friendly too!

Bolt is the ideal place. It's a blast at night when I need a beer after a long work day and it's incredible on a Sunday afternoon when my family and I barbecue. (You can bring your own food and use the grills) Brianna is usually working when I come in on sundays, she is so accommodating and friendly. She knows so much about Bolt's beer and takes passion in her "craft". Plus, she always makes sure my pup has water and treats :)
