Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar

Blue Ocean is my new favorite sushi spot in North County! We went for a happy hour on my birthday and were blown away by the quality and quantity of each of their dishes. The tomago nigiri was A+ perfectly seasoned and the wakame is soooo tasty. The rest of the nigiri was perfect and as expected for top notch fish. The rice was also perfectly seasoned. The crispy shrimp was plump and perfectly covered in a sweet and savory sauce. We tried two skewers - the pork with pineapple and the steak. Both were superb. I think I liked the pork one a little better because the pineapple was a perfect foil for the juicy pork. The birthday chocolate cake with a savory caramel and crispy amaranth was sublime. Not too sweet with lots of complexity. This isn’t our first time nor will it be the last time. If you want truly exceptional sushi and skewers. This is the place to go. Don’t sleep on the soup as well - it’s rich, dotted with tiny mushrooms, and very satisfying. There is plenty of parking in the lot or nearby. They also have drink specials weekly - I highly recommend the whiskey Wednesday!

Hands down the BEST, freshest, most flavorful food I’ve had in a very long time. Additionally, the environment is extremely pleasant and lively, but also not too loud. We ordered the Kaboconut Soup, filet + pineapple robata, Amberjack Carpaccio, and Marine Boy roll. As well as the Pina Verde (WOW) and the cucumber Saketini. We will 1000% be back every time we’re in town because I would love to try more items on their delicious and diverse menu! Lastly, thank you Meimei for being an awesome server!

Blue Ocean Tuna: A Gem for Fresh Seafood Lovers! I recently had the pleasure of dining at Blue Ocean Tuna with my son, and it was an experience to remember. From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic meal. The restaurant has a clean, modern vibe with just the right touch of cozy charm. The food was absolutely stellar. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and melted in our mouths, and the specialty rolls were an explosion of flavors. Every dish was beautifully presented, and it was clear the chefs take immense pride in their craft. What made our lunch even more special was our wonderful server, Helena. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and full of positive energy that made the experience all the more enjoyable. She took the time to explain the menu, offer great recommendations, and engage with us in such a warm and friendly way. Helena truly went above and beyond, turning our mother-son lunch date into a fun and memorable outing. If you’re looking for a restaurant with outstanding seafood and service that makes you feel like a VIP, Blue Ocean Tuna is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back—and we’ll be asking for Helena again!

Okay so this place is on the more expensive side. To be fair, that is what you get in downtown Carlsbad Village. I don't frequent this place very often because I find that there's equal quality sushi at a more competitive price point not too far away. Blue Ocean is more of a "date night" sushi spot, not a "family dinner" type. There is nothing wrong with either of these and I like both of them but Blue Ocean has a much more upbeat Saturday night type vibe. Anyways, let's break it down: Sushi: Great! Good quality, love it! Haven't been disappointed by this place and clearly they have some talented chefs. Service: Pretty good. No complaints. Usually quick service even when they're busy. Love to see it. Only once did we have a little snafu but our waitress was very apologetic and smoothed it over. Atmosphere: This is more of a personal preference, but this place is LOUD. This is actually my biggest gripe. I just don't care for restaurants where I struggle to hold a conversation over the music. Some people like that though. I'd rate this place higher if it weren't for that. However, if you do like a louder out-for-drinks ambience then you'll love it here.

I ordered one of the same rolls last week and it was a completely different portion size (8 good size piece)and what came in the roll was completely different… 6 thin pieces in 1 roll? Last time there was a sauce for this roll this time no sauce. Price was the same but the size was really small.

Best vegetarian sushi that I've had in a long time. They have creative options and they're all unique to each other. The service was extreme quick and friendly even with our two young kids in tow. They also have their own parking lot (small) that's shared with nearby Harumama. Will be coming back here whenever we're in the Carlsbad area.

Delicious sushi! We've been searching for a great sushi spot in North County, and I think we just might have found it. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rolls were well-balanced with great flavors, and the presentation was beautiful. The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. The ambiance was also inviting, making it a perfect place for a casual dinner or a special night out.
