On the Grid : Blackbird Bakery

"A chain of small south London artisanal bakeries, you know your area has made it when one opens up within walking distance. They pride themselves in making everything they sell themselves in house. The breakfast menu is a winner, with a firm favourite in Huevos Rancheros. Perfect if you have a bit of time before your train at Queens Road, Peckham." - Studio A4 E+F

I was so relieved to be able to pop in quite early this morning. The rush starts round about 0830 for the commuters and a little later for the home workers. All of us benefited from the cheerful and winsome Barista and server. My needs as a mobility challenged gentleman were anticipated and met by the attentive Megan and Ruby. I ate the spinach and cream cheese roll. The texture was meaty without an overpowering nutmeg flavour. Coffee is excellent with strong chocolate notes. Lovely loo but not particularly accessible. Fewer stars for atmosphere just because the wind tunnel effect can be bracing with two doors under a railway arch. But great to sit outside.

The sandwiches weren’t toasted properly and I bought over 5 items and was not even offered a bag. When I asked for one, she was extremely rude insinuating I didn’t need one, and acted as if I’d caused offence. I’m pregnant and there were a lot of items - she handed me the bag and didn’t offer to pack them. It wasn’t busy, so there was no excuse for the lack of care or rudeness. This place has really gone downhill… I used to love this place but won’t be coming back.

Best place for bread in South East London. Normally go for the brown sourdough, but on Fridays they do rosemary and potato sourdough and challah bread so I get that then. Staff are wonderfully eclectic and everyone is as annoyingly attractive as you'd expect from a small chain hipster bakery. I even have two of the tote bags. Love you, Blackbird Bakery. Never change.

I enjoyed a lovely coffee and slice of cake here and the person who served it was smiley and very personable. The background music was high vibrational and I appreciated it. I would certainly recommend this coffee shop.

This place is such a gem and the chicken pesto sandwhich was delicious. I had a pram and little ones with me, and felt very welcomed in the space. Shout out to the woman behind the till with the headscarf, who was so helpful and patient when I was ordering!

I love my cappuccino in the mornings here, I've been going every weekday for the last 4 years. Warm and friendly staff, convenient location, good facilities. This place is built into my routine!

While strolling in the morning, we stumbled upon this spacious venue. The cashier provided helpful and friendly service. However, the establishment could benefit from some tidying up, as we noticed areas appeared dirty, a sentiment echoed by several reviews. Additionally, there seemed to be a need for improved food handling practices. We observed that the individual responsible for food preparation could benefit from proper training in utensil usage. for example, They were using the same tongs for various items, occasionally resulting in cross-contamination.

The Asian girl made me the best oat flat white i’ve ever had. Excellent customer service, 5 star for her. She recommended the chocolate fudge and it really hit the spot.

Yelp
Walking home from Peckham, we stumbled across this cute little bakery. We'd eaten brunch but come on, I'm only human. Bakery = cake. Cake = BROWNIES! The bakery has plenty of seating both outside and in. The smell of fresh bread fills your nose as you enter and there's a warmness to the staff and the people within. We didn't eat in today but we will definitely be back. Instead we grabbed a chocolate cookie and a salted caramel brownie and we went on our way. 5pm came round and it was cookie time! The cookie was packed full of chocolate chips and tasted wonderful. It was very crumbly but I liked this about it. I can only imagine it warm and gooey - NOM. Next, the brownie. Moist and melt in the mouth, it was truly delightful BUT I couldn't really taste the salted caramel, it just wasn't strong enough over the chocolate. Still a great brownie. As, I said, I'll be back for lunch. Those pizzas are calling my name.

Yelp
Cute little bakery next to the train I Went with the BLT. A man wearing a bra with no uniform delivered it to me (slightly odd but ok). to my surprise it came with guacamole (which I've never seen in my life before on a BLT), only few pieces of bacon and about 2 cherry tomatoes cut up and put on (which did not get close to covering all the space. It mostly bread , tasted ok but skimpy on the bacon and tomatoes . I realized the tesco next door had a BLT with the same amount of bacon. More tomatoes , and only 1/3 the price. Average , not an amazing place , your results may vary

Yelp
Lovely friendly staff, great coffee and sandwiches. I stop here in the mornings before getting on the train and occasionally for Sunday breakfast or Friday evening for a pizza. My favourites are the spinach and cream cheese roll (an indulgent veggie alternative to the sausage rolls - sausage rolls are great too), the cheddar toasties, chicken pesto sandwich, Reuben (if eating in) and the calzone. They serve local bottled beers in the evening. Critiques: it gets rammed with baby buggies on the weekends due to space constraints, but in the upside parents are pretty good about keeping kids under control here. Also they seem to run out of pizza dough during lunch on the weekends (I never seem to be able to order a pizza here unless it's early Friday evenings). They don't answer the phone either, which is a little annoying if you want to order a cake in advance. All in all these are minor niggles though.

Yelp
Decent South London coffee and bakery, part of a wider chain of branches across the south of the city. While the coffee is pretty average, their bread is reliably good and never disappoints. Usually full of macbooks.

Yelp
Nice bakery at a convenient location right under the Queens Road Peckham station. The staff was very nice. When I visited London, I came to this bakery every morning for a quick hot breakfast before hopping on the tube
