Best place for bread in South East London. Normally go for the brown sourdough, but on Fridays they do rosemary and potato sourdough and challah bread so I get that then. Staff are wonderfully eclectic and everyone is as annoyingly attractive as you'd expect from a small chain hipster bakery. I even have two of the tote bags. Love you, Blackbird Bakery. Never change.

This place offers reasonably priced items, making it an affordable option for a quick coffee or bite. However, since its expansion, I no longer view it as an independent business, which is a bit of a disappointment. Personally, I’d prefer to support a true independent, especially since I find the coffee here to be just average—not particularly impressive compared to other local options. On the other hand, the bread and pastries are really good. They’re consistently fresh and tasty, and I often enjoy picking up a pastry alongside my drink. The staff here are always friendly, and it’s clear that they enjoy the laid-back environment of the shop. They often walk in, casually throw their bags down, and get straight to serving customers, which gives the place a relaxed, approachable vibe. It’s nice to see staff who seem to genuinely enjoy their work, and it contributes to the positive atmosphere of the place. While I’ve noticed some critical reviews, I think they’re a bit unfair. This shop is quite small and often busy, with a lot of foot traffic from the nearby station and road entrances. Given the high volume of customers, it’s understandable that things might not always be perfect. It’s a busy little spot, and I think it’s doing a great job under the circumstances. I’ll continue coming here for the pastries and friendly service, even if the coffee isn’t my favorite.

Visited the bakery in hopes of getting a lovely comfort meal during a difficult time The service was slow whilst 3 members of staff where behind the counter 1 was serving , 1 was tending to dishes and the other passively looking on until offering to support with a payment I requested a chest and tomato toastie which lists red onions and tomatoes as an ingredient only to discover that I was served just a cheese sandwich, given the price was £5.80 it’s disappointing to see that such little care was given into ensuring the toastie was balanced or sold as advertised. In addition I asked for a slice of lime and pistachio cake and requested one at the front after being served a slice which I perceived to be smaller than others . The staff insisted that they use a cutter which ensures all slices were the same but were graceful(as I assumed) to oblige my request to be served the one at the front. I didn’t pay close attention to the member who I trusted to fulfil the request before I left and after taking a peak I could instantly tell I was served the same slice I had pointed out I did not want nor prefer. Once getting home I discovered that they had simply repackaged the slice I didn’t want and put a sticker on the box to make it difficult for me to check in the bakery. whilst I understand they may have a practice in place where they assume they have parity over all cake slices - just from the perspective of providing customer satisfaction, I find it puzzling to understand why if I had requested a particular slice I was being treated as being difficult and their reluctance to fulfil my request with honesty and integrity. You’d think the request I made to simply be served a specific slice would have detrimental impact on their wages or the course of their day - it takes nothing from you (speaking directly to staff) to fulfil a request from customers and one would hope that being able to fulfil a request (as unimportant to you anyway if all the slices are the same) wouldn’t be the hill you choose to die on. You thought by putting the sticker into the box it’d make it not possible for me to tell - it’s patronising and again I’m forced to wonder if the slice you give to a customer would impact the wages you collect? It’s so unnecessary and insulting to think you could sneakily “trick” or get away with just lacking basic customer service. Especially since I watched you oblige a couple ahead of me make their requests (and surprise surprise you can probably guess their race vs mine) It’s just unkind, unnecessary, dishonest and disappointing. The staff were rude, service was slow and to top it all off it was dirty inside.

While strolling in the morning, we stumbled upon this spacious venue. The cashier provided helpful and friendly service. However, the establishment could benefit from some tidying up, as we noticed areas appeared dirty, a sentiment echoed by several reviews. Additionally, there seemed to be a need for improved food handling practices. We observed that the individual responsible for food preparation could benefit from proper training in utensil usage. for example, They were using the same tongs for various items, occasionally resulting in cross-contamination.

Everything looks excellent, is presented excellently, tastes amazing and their skills in baking are mastery. Quick efficient service too, not like another local place that has ridiculous queues. I’d give it 10 starts if if could it’s that good

Decent coffee at reasonable price £2.48. No prices on board though. The cafe in general is dirty and unhygienic with dirty display case, dirty floor, bread and pastry in open for customers to breathe on. They dont clean here. The staff friendliness varies. Behind the counter appears messy and unorganised and thats where sandwiches are made. There is only ever 1 barista so you can wait a while for your coffee (5-7 mins). Croissant okay but would not meet french boulangerie standards as is not flaky or buttery and is dry.

I love getting bread here from the always helpful and friendly staff, so thought I'd order the vegan ultimate chocolate cake for a friend's birthday. I'm so glad I did! Everyone was blown away by it and couldn't believe it was vegan. It was moist and delicious and I will definitely be treating the vegans in my life to more of your cakes.

This place no longer has a kitchen so no menu, nothing cooked just sandwiches and cakes. By 12.30 they had 2 sandwiches left, I resorted to a Moroccan lamb and lentil roll, they offered it warm, they were serious, it came luke warm with soggy pastry. Clearly microwaved when pastries should be ovened to warm up. No kids option at all so lucky I had brought snacks with me! I guess at least there was a highchair. I came here about 5 years ago, it was great, lovely cooked food. I won't be returning now.
