Clubs are an Organization that dedicates itself to a particular interest or Activity. Nightclubs are for nighttime entertainment also for Drinking, Music & Dancing. But when you come to Billy Club you'll be experiencing a Meal like any other. When I first heard of Billy Club I thought it meant those Wooden Clubs with handle bars that Police would use to beat and subdue Criminals back in the 50's. Turns out the Building that its in was formerly a Dinner Club called the Whitehorse Dining Club back in the Day.
This was one of those Restaurants that was calling me to come and try. But the thing was we decided to come here in middle of the COVID Pandemic. Even my Dad & Brother were worried about me and especially Grandma catching it but we told them we'd be safe and Proceeded with Caution. Matter of fact we decided to eat outside right by the Window with less risk of catching it.
It was a lovely evening, right Away one of the workers (Eric) came out and greeted us. Told us a couple Specials but we knew what we wanted to do, it was a Small Menu, only 14 Dishes (8 Appetizers and 6 Entrees). So we ordered half of the Menu and split it between the 3 of us. We first started off with a Roasted Beet Salad that were mixed with Coconut/Fennel Puree, also topped with Housemade Granola, Kohlrabi, Charred Grapefruit & Fresh Dill.
One of the most cleanest tasting Salads that I've eaten, Earthy Beets, Mild Kohlrabi, Puree that was silky Smooth and Sweet, Granola gave it some Bite, Grapefruit provided Acid and the Dill had hints of Anise.
For our Drinks Grandma got a Daiquiri with Bacardi Rum (that's been aged for 8 Years) along with Fresh Honey & Lime, Rick got the Cruel Intentions consisting of Pineapple infused Tequila, Lime, Cherry, Bitters & Soda. I got the Color Me Kubrick (inspired by the 2005 Movie and Director Stanley Kubrick) consisting of Gin, Lemon, Basil, Smoked Chili Oil & Egg White. While the drink had some good Strong Flavors I was expecting that Hit of Heat at the End and it faded out, but I loved the Froth of the Whites.
We also Shared Warm Homemade Focaccia with Whipped Butter & Olive Oil mixed with Balsamic Vinegar. Mesclun Salad that was tossed in a Butttermilk Vinaigrette with Bacon Lardons, Smoked Mushrooms, Shallots & Hazelnuts. Usually I thought the Buttermilk was gonna be strong but it wasn't, nicely dressed too, Hazelnuts gave it some Crunch, Mushrooms & Shallots were Smoky. Rick and I also got the Halibut Ceviche (marinated in Citrus Juice) with Radish, Fennel, Jalapeno & Piquillo Pepper Puree. This was a nice way to cleanse my Palate, Fish was Clean, the Raw Vegetables gave it that Refreshing Bite, the Jalapeno was Strong and the Puree was hidden at the Bottom but it Mild flavor made itself Present.
For our Entrees, Grandma got the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (breaded in Panko) with with Mole Verde (sauce made from Tomatillos & Poblano Peppers) & Avocado Puree. Cut off a piece and you get that Sweet Flavor of Crustacean, the Verde Sauce you add packs a Firework Punch, the Slaw help take off some of the Heat and the Puree was light & Creamy. Rick got their Fish of the Day, Whole Trout over Rice with Ginger, Scallion, Garlic Scapes & Sesame Oil. The fish looked like it went from the Ocean, to a Frying Pan and onto my Uncle's Plate, he was kind enough to let me eat the Head (especially the Eyeballs).
I got one of their Signatures, Duck Breast (that was aged for a Week) with Fried Cornmeal Cake, Roasted Mushrooms, Roasted Cranberries, Cranberry Gastrique & Fried Sage. Your thinking to yourself (why would I pay $34 for 2 Slices of Duck), I thought it was worth it with their Preparation & Technique, Duck was Juicy, Fat was Rendered, Skin was Crispy, lil Cakes were still Crispy & Light, the Cranberries popped like Sweet & Sour Candy. Personally I thought the portion was spot on as it was Rich, don't want too much of a good Thing. This was a pure taste of a Fall Dish in the Summertime that I cherished greatly.
For Desserts I just wasn't feeling it, so I just ordered yet another Color Me Kubrick Cocktail. We thanked Eric for the Food & Hospitality and we were well on our Way, we enjoyed ourselves and went home unscathed. Going forward I know that its gonna be much harder to enjoys Dinner out because of the Pandemic but its nice every now and then to go do. So if your looking for somewhere to Join for a Night out, come join the Billy Club. !!!
