Bernina Express Named Instagram's Favorite Train Ride

"Online gaming site Rant Casino released its analysis of the most Instagrammed luxury train journeys around the world and named the Bernina Express the winner with more than 96,000 tags. It boasts some seriously cool stats, like the fact that it’s the highest railway track in Europe, and is the steepest railway on earth. The train journey also passes through “55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.” The 2.5-hour journey connects Chur and St.Moritz in Switzerland to Tirano, Italy, traversing the Swiss Alps. The Bernina Railway website explains that there are two trains for people to choose from on the line: the regional Bernina Red Train and the Bernina Express." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Train Adventure Through the Swiss Alps I didn’t even realize that the Bernina Express scenic train journey was on the UNESCO World Heritage list until I arrived at the small northern Italian town of Tirano to start the trip. There are several different routes from which travelers may chose, but that day I took a one-way trip from Tirano to the Swiss mountain town of Chur. It was the middle of winter and I was excited to see the famous snow-covered Alps in person. Images of Maria from the Sound of Music kept running through my head as the train slowly pulled out of the small station. The journey is a scenic one and the train cars have been designed to maximize the amazing views. The windows are extra large and there is more than enough room between seats to allow for even the most ardent shutterbug. Our trip took about four hours, during which time we passed through narrow valleys and swept past mountain villages that looked like they were plucked out of a model train set. The unique and stunning scenery I was lucky enough to witness proved to me why UNESCO very smartly placed this journey on their important list. Tirano is easy to reach from Milan and there are many different train routes available including trips to St. Moritz and Davos."

Travel tips: How to travel by train in Europe - SilverKris

"A panoramic alpine rail route that traverses the Swiss Alps on the Zurich–Milan corridor, prized for spectacular mountain scenery and often recommended as a must‑do scenic train journey for travelers who want dramatic views rather than just a transfer between cities." - Nicola Iseard

The best train trip we’ve ever made. It was on my bucket list for so long. During our vacation in Europe, we were in Milan and we decided to book the trip via Get Your Guide. Costs us around CAD 190 - round-trip from Milan to St.Moritz and the Bernina Train from St.Moritz to Tirano and back to Milan. Words cannot describe the beauty of mountains, lakes, hills and many more. It was so amazing. The train ride was around 2:15 minutes, which went at a relatively slow speed so you get to take pictures and enjoy the nature. From St.Moritz to Tirano take the right side for a better view, both sides are great but have better views at the right side. We also had a few hours to explore the beautiful town of St. Moritz, such a gorgeous and peaceful town. Worth every penny, highly recommended.

We had amazing experiences on the standard train. The seats are comfy and because we went on the early 9am train on a dry 1st of December day we pretty much had the whole cart to ourselves allowing us to jump seat to seat for spectacular views. It really is the WoW factor. Two hours of stunning locations. Really amazing. P.s we only bought our tickets at the station and not in advance so if you forget don't panic. Easy Peacy.

This was the best train journey I’ve ever experienced. I went in first class but space and seats are probably the only difference between the two classes. The views are just stunning! You go over mountains, fields, glaciers I could just keep naming things. Around the end (if you are going from Tirano to St Moritz) you can get off at the highest point for pictures and a coffee. The staff are super friendly and always try to make your journey pleasant. This exhilarating ride takes about two and a half hours (if you again are going from Tirano to St Moritz). I highly recommend going on the right side as you get more amazing panoramic views though both sides are great. It is best if you book in advance although upgrades are sometimes available on the day. 5 stars.

Beautiful experience! I traveled today in 1st class from Chur to Tirano — it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The landscapes were breathtaking, the train was clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere very peaceful. However, the Wi-Fi link didn’t work, and unfortunately the toilet in 1st class was out of order, which was a bit disappointing for such a premium journey. Other than that, everything was lovely — I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to enjoy one of the most scenic train rides in Europe.

We travel to Milan for our vacation, but noticed that there is such a cool train track, Bernina Express. So we decided to try booking the entire trip via Klook. This turned out to be the best decision we made in this trip. The mountainous and forest view along the train route is so beautiful, breathtaking and stunning. Please see the photos and vedios I uploaded. Don’t think too much, just book and go. There are many ways to do this, please look up more detail in Google or Youtube. Highly recommend to go. It’s a MUST in your life time.

One of the best trip we've ever made, a must for any couple despite it was far from our hotel (3 hiur to reach it) but it worth ever minute. On time, good value for money and refreshing. Not easy to book online, you should buy the ticket, then "separately" the seat !

This has to be one of the great train journeys ! This train climbs to 2250m at its highest point 😮. The scenery is breathtaking , add lunch in Italy 🇮🇹 and a return back to Chur and your winning at life 😊

Would recommend the Chur to Tirano journey. Done in daylight & a stop at Alp Grum where you can get off train & take photos. The return journey doesn't stop there & in December goes dark half way in to journey so you don't see as much. Worth the trip though.
