Strathcarron IV54 8XF, United Kingdom Get directions

"Bealach na Ba Bealach na Ba, or “Pass of the Cattle,” may be just a road, but it’s one of the most remarkable drives in all of Britain. Rivaling many a Swiss mountain pass, it winds its way from Lochcarron up 2,000 feet to the Bealach and Applecross, offering breathtaking views of Highland alpine crags, the Isle of Skye, and even the Outer Hebrides farther out to sea. Once you reach the top, there’s a parking area to the left, but take the trail up to the transmitter station for even more spectacular vistas. Don’t, however, attempt the drive in a camper or other large vehicle—the upper part of the road is one lane all the way to the top."

Beautiful view! Weather dependant ofcourse. We went over twice. The first day it was clear. The second was a bit scary as it was thick with low cloud. I love mountains, even when they are moody. Please drive safely and slowly. We saw male deer's on our drive.

It is one of the best (or worst) roads to drive to. Very steep, winding road with passing places every 200yds or so. The views when at the top are very impressive. There is a tea/coffee place at the top, but it wasn't open for some reason🤷‍♂️ I camped up there, and it gets very windy. Drove back down early the next day ( no cars on road 😀)and the place was covered in mist.

Just breath taking. Narrow road with passing places. Self service community filling stations for fuel available 7 days a week at either end of the pass in the villages

A fantastic must see on the NC500. Even on a rainy and cloudy day we enjoyed the unique driving experience. Only down side are the Cannonbaws touring cars who often drive along in convoy and act like they own the road, forcing other drivers to stop even when the passing place is on their side of the road.

This is not a road for the faint hearted, but a spectacular drive for anyone who loves precision driving, and the views and the most spectacular, you will see anywhere in the country. Just remember to plan ahead DO NOT: Park in passing places. Use passing places to let faster vehicles pass you. NO WIDE or LARGE CAMPER VANS, as these often close the road, and spoil the experience for others.

Great Viewpoint on the NC500. Luckily for the time of year we had good weather. Very cold at the top but wow what a drive! We had it pretty much to ourselves, so it was great. Take it slow and drive careful. Would 100% recommend.

Come on! You cannot come to this part of the world.and not take on this road! Well - if you have a big vehicle, aren't confident in reversing and/or its bad weather then maybe take another route. This is a fantastically weird and winding road with awesome views at the top. Add to a cairn or build your own and be sure to pop into Applecross nearby for a drink and a bite to eat (and to calm the nerves if you need it!)

NC500 part. One of the better driveable routes in west Scotland. Fair height by car, challenging road network and ultimately a beautiful view. Once at the top you can lose hours walking around from beautiful spot to beautiful spot. Limited parking. Can be dangerous. Not suitable for large campers, even if you think you can handle it keep the other fellow road users in mind.
