"Kimchi Fries. Say WHAT?! Former Toronto food truck superstar, Banh Mi Boys, opened up a shop at the buzzy intersection of Queen and Spadina (ironically, it's beside a McDonald's). In addition to their popular banh mi sandwiches and steam bao is one unusual dish: Kimchi Fries. It's not quite a poutine but could very well be a multicultural version of the Quebecois dish. Pickled, spicy kimchi is topped on hot, crispy fries. Add some mayo and green onions and voila! Kimchi Fries. I'm pretty sure there is no other dish quite like this in the world. It is delicious and addictive!"

Had the five spice pork belly banh mi and was glad I made that choice out of the many flavours you could choose from. Great flavours, but I found their portion to be slightly lacking (?). Could be that I’m a tourist and am not familiar with the prices in Toronto but I was expecting it to be more filling (both for the stomach and what’s inside the baguette).

Google
Got a BOGO deal on doordash and decided to try. GRILLED CHICKEN BANH MI was SCRUMPTIOUS. Packed with a good ratio of meat and veggies, they DID NOT skimp in the meat🫶. Also got a sweet potato fries which unfortunately was mostly overfried😭 you can tell from the color, just wish that they have the no salt option for the fries as it was kinda salty too imo. Anw, BANH MI is PHENOMENAL HIGHLY RCM

Google
The chicken banh mi is excellent. I ask for medium spice. This place can get pretty busy at times, so try and avoid peak hours.

Google
Had a fried chicken and a tofu Bao for around $11. Great value, the baos are loaded with vegetables and the fried chicken as well as the tofu were so juicy and crispy outside! You order and pay at the counter and grab your order once it's prepared, so no 'special' service, but I guess that's how they can keep the prices low. There aren't too many tables to sit on, and the door wouldn't close properly so it was a bit chilly inside - especially with people coming in / leaving regularly, so I mostly kept my jacket on. Just something to keep in mind when dining in. Overall, it was a good experience and the food is delicious, so I would come back for sure!

Google
I used to love their kimichi fries/sweet potato fries and have ordered multiple times over the years. I guess because of inflation, they have reduced the portion size (pictured), it still tastes great but I just cant justify ordering the kimichi fries anymore and only getting half of the amount of what I used to get.

Google
This place does not disappoint on flavour, with a perfect blend of sweet, savoury, and sour. I find that traditional banh mi often has too high a bread:meat ratio and their tacos solve this for me. Very generous portions.

Benjamin George

Google
Stopped by for a quick bite and wasn't disappointed. The fried chicken bao definitely has value for the price (around $5 for one). I personally found the filling with cucumbers, carrots, and cilantro a bit overwhelming. Would've liked to taste more of the chicken and bun by themselves, but that's solely a personal preference. Will definitely visit again and try the club bao and kimchi fries!

Google
Nice sandwiches. Lots of meat, quite tasty. However, the bread they use is not “fresh and crunchy”. So the whole experience is not what you’d expect from a freshly made banh mi sandwich. Personally to me, their sandwiches are too sweet (especially chicken - is a meat dessert??) Adding extra sweetness to make food taste better is getting over the top.

Yelp
Love their bahn mi and this place deserves all the recognition. You can tell their food is good because when I went with my friends, this place was decently packed, limited seating but thats okay because the food was great. So cheap too and they packed a lot of meat into their bahn mi. I would definitely come here again anytime I come to visit Toronto, and luckily this restaurant is located in the downtown area which makes it a very easy go to spot if you want something filling and cheap.

Sam D.

Yelp
Really nice bahn mi sandwiches and great flavor! I wish they didn't have a lot of flies in the restaurant but what can you do. We order the Korean beef and 5 spice pork bahn mi. Our total was about 30$. We would totally go back for their bahn mis. They do have a bathroom but it's kind of dirty. They have some booth seating available.

Yelp
Vietnamese food with a Canadian twist. This is one of the first restaurants I tried while visiting Toronto and it was honestly ok. The food is affordable and they give a good portion. The food tastes a little soggy...I would suggest exploring other places.

Stephen C.

Yelp
Banh mi with a twist Food: Ordered take out with my co-workers for a weekday lunch. The flavour of the braised beef was way too salty and the ratio of all the ingredients was off, with a small portion of beef and too much carrot. This made the balance of the sandwich off, and I was quite hungry shortly after. The bun was also very soggy from the sauce and the beef drippings, making for a subpar lunch. It might be better if eating at the restaurant. Service: The staff had our order ready for pick-up.

Robert C.

Yelp
Good place for a quick bite of banh mi in Toronto. I tried their grilled pork banh mi to-go and the food was good overall. Bread did not get hard over time which was nice. Portion size is good for lunch and fair prices. Service was quick and food was prepared within 5-10 minutes. Ambiance is okay, there is some seating inside but most people seem to take out here.

Tony X.

Yelp
If you want a quick, cheap meal, Banh Mi Boys accomplishes what you're after, but I don't really know if it's the place I'd recommend for a foodie looking for an outstanding meal. It's pretty similar to other banh mi places I've been to before.

Daniel A.

Yelp
Banh Mi Boys is a reliable favourite. Between the elevated banh mis and unique Kimchi fries, they serve some of the best Asian fusion fast food around, and at very reasonable prices as well!

Courtney O.

Yelp
Fresh, crisp bread. Juicy filling. Refreshing pickled veggies. The bahn mi was excellent. For $9, this sandwich is a great deal and the perfect cheap lunch eat. I enjoyed the lemongrass tofu sandwich. The tofu was soft which paired nicely against the crispy carrots and daikon. They prepared the sandwich quick. Definitely a popular spot. While enjoying our sandwiches there, many people came in and out. So good!

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Awesome quick lunch banh mi shop! Grabbed a quick lunch while at work downtown here and it was awesome! I ordered quickly via the screen in the little restaurant and within a few minutes a huge banh mi sandwich came out. I got the 5 spice pork belly and it was a lot of great, lean, flavorful pork on a nice fluffy roll with a great sauce and some veggies. Plus it was quite cheap!

Yelp
It pains me to update this review to 2 stars but WHAT THE F**K? The squid in our taco was GREEN!!!! Husband and I ate over half of it before realizing the "off" colour. Now we're playing the waiting game of whether or not we'll die from food poisoning :/ On top of that, everything was extremely salty to the point of being inedible, and the fries in the kimchi fries were undercooked. To boot, the portion was extremely chincy but I guess it's just as well considering it was all inedible anyways? Big yikes, Banh Mi Boys!!! I've always held you guys in high regard. You've been my go-to take out joint for like 10 years. It's sad to think this era may now come to an end. Ain't nobody got time for gross, salty, rotten food. Take out is a luxury in our house, and a thing we do maybe once a month. I don't see us coming back here any time soon, which is so sad. The solid, tasty, reliable and reasonably priced restaurants in Toronto are dwindling by the day. I can replicate most things at home now for a fraction of the price of take-out. Sad..... :(

Kathy M.

Yelp
tried their pork belly banh mi and it was flavourful and good. Just wished there was more meat to it and the baguette a bit crispier! Added it in as a combo and got fries and drink with everything coming under 15$. price is pretty steep for a banh mi when i can get one at an authentic banh mi place for under 5$, but worth a try if you want other meats other than the cold cuts banh mi typically has!

Sanzhar S.

Yelp
Reliable. Consistently delicious. Always hits the spot, and quick to do it. Love the vibe of this place. And the people who work here are extra kind of special. The answer to life's problems - you'll have to dig deep for that one. For everything else - there's Banh Mi Boys.

Mike H.

Yelp
If you can believe it, Banh Mi Boys popped onto the TO food scene a decade ago. Their myriad of affordable offerings include banh mi, tacos, steamed bao and of course kimchi fries! It's been years and the taste is as good as ever. Kimchi fries' served warm smothered under pulled pork, fresh kimchi, scallions, mayo. The huge box is huge as a perfect lunch fill-up or late night snack. Add jalapeño as I did if you like a bit of extra heat. The Boys' banh mi is nothing to scoff at either: it's among the best in the city! 5 spice pork belly is the most popular. This time, I opted for grilled pork. Its lemongrass flavour melded perfectly with sweet pickled carrots, cilantro & spicy mayo in fresh baguette.

Lennart K.

Yelp
Best Banh Mi I've had in a while. Also very clean and nice atmosphere. I highly recommend the squid tacos as well.

Marysa M.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this after seeing the menu but it was just ok. The kimchi fries didn't have much flavor. The bbq pork bao was good but nothing spectacular. The bahn mi was okay too. Overall things were ok but nothing great enough to make me go back.

Christine G.

Yelp
Amazing vegan sandwich with no issues holding back on flavor and spice! Fast and easy!

Jade L.

Yelp
The reviews for this shop looked great! We went here for lunch before venturing downtown Toronto. This was nearby our hotel as well. The line was to the door when we entered, but it moved very quickly. I snagged a table while my bestie ordered our food. Our food very good! Loved loved our kimchi fries!! Would definitely recommend and will come back here soon! We ordered: Tofu kimchi fries Tofu lemongrass banh mi Pork belly banh mi

Thomas M.

Yelp
Came here on a food tour, the coworkers really enjoyed, my allergies didn't allow me to try the entire sandy, but the meat was super flavorful. HUGE portion so if you're only mildly hungry you're going to be stuffed. Great little spot with cool vibes.

Joe K.

Yelp
Great banh mi. Seems more of a modern approach to banh mis. The bread was a lot more softer than am used too, but still good. Beef was great as was the pork belly. Bao bun was great, chicken very flavorful. Didn't get to try the fries but was curious. Dining room needed the tables wiped down.

Emma B.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. Bread was a little softer than I'm used to on Vietnamese sandwiches but great regardless. Preferred the pork belly over the Kalbi beef - but the beef was still very good regardless. Fried chicken bao was great too, very flavourful. Seemed to be a popular spot. Tables needed wiping down. Ambiance was so-so.

Laureen Y.

Yelp
Its a small shop. It was pretty busy when I got there. I ordered the 5 spice pork belly banh mi. You can choose it as a bao if you'd like instead of banh mi. Food took about 5 mins. The banh mi was soo good and tasted so fresh. It didnt feel so heavy eating it. It felt like I was eating a salad. Loved it! I could eat the entire thing and not feel bloated.

Eula B.

Yelp
Banh Mi Boys is a signature Toronto food spot that anyone visiting the city should visit. I come here regularly when i go to the city. Their kimchi fries is bomb but this time i got their chicken banh mi which is equally good! Filled with sweet saucey grilled chicken with pickled carrots and radish with some cilantro. Tastes so good that you'd want more!

Action A.

Yelp
Crispy French bread, really flavo(u)rful grilled pork. I'm a simp for a classic banh mi. The only thing missing was some fresh jalapeños but I like the name of this place so 5 stars

Isabel A.

Yelp
I genuinely love this place but went on a hiatus from ordering. My only issue is with how they make the tacos. It's always extremely messy, soggy and overly packed with cabbage & carrots. I ordered the kalbi beef taco and it leaked everywhere, the to go bag ripped and it got all over my own bag. I only live 5 mins away and by the time I got home everything was soggy already. This would normally be no big deal but it's constant and I literally had to eat the taco in a bowl. The amount of cabbage and carrots that go in the taco is extreme! I can literally add it to two more tacos. Yes, I have requested to get less toppings before and they just don't do it. Hope this reviews goes somewhere and the staff actually follow's through with requests.

Edwin Y.

Yelp
I would say closer to 3.75. for this price point its a good pick up. It's not the flavor that is lacking. I feel it is a little too flavorful that it becomes salty. I had the pork and chicken sandwiches with medium spice. The protein to picked veggies was also a good ratio The kimchee fries was also a great deal but the mayo made it a little to rich and heavy for me. The flavor again was there. They are very generous with the fries and pulled pork. I wish it had more kimchee. I came during the snow stormy yesterday so it might have effected the taste. I would go back hopefully it's not as salty

Larie L.

Yelp
Not sure if this is a one off thing but I always enjoyed Banh Mi Boys. But can't say the same thing when I went today. Ordered 3 Steamed Baos - Five Spice Pork Belly/Fried Chicken & Braised Beef. Both Pork Belly and Beef were dry af and the pork has a weird taste. The fried chicken was already soggy when I went home. Considering my place is just less than 5 mins from BMB, this shouldn't have caused the sogginess but rather how they wrap the food tightly. Overall I didn't really enjoyed the Baos and would think twice before coming back here again.

Richa J.

Yelp
Yeah, no. Got the tofu bao and tofu kimchi fries. Tofu bao was soft with a crunchy bite, but had no flavour, just a smidge of sriracha with bland veggies and no other sauce. The fries were worse, all soggy even though I had them right away, with messily thrown around kimchi and tofu without any effort to make all the elements actually go together. For 14 dollars, you can get a better eat at a fast food place.

Emily S.

Yelp
We had a quick bite at Banh Mi Boys as it was conveniently located near our hotel. The menu is a decent size, and you purchase the Banh Mi sandwiches separate from the sides. The prices are okay for the portion, however it would be nice if the sandwiches came with a little more of the vegetable slaw toppings, as the bun to topping ratio was a little much. Our sandwiches came out quickly and were warm. We tried one each; I went with the Spicy Pork Belly Banh Mi, and my significant other chose the Squid. My sandwich was really good; the flavors were fresh and delicious. I went with the medium spicy, which was a spicy sauce. It was just enough spice for me. I would have liked to see more of the slaw/toppings on the sandwich. My significant other's Squid Banh Mi was also very good, and he went with the spicy option of adding jalapenos. He also wished for a little more of the toppings. Banh Mi Boys was good for a quick counter service option to dine in or take out. My only issue was probably the cleanliness of the place; there was food on the floors and crumbs on the tables, and the garbage was overflowing. The kitchen looked clean and our food was good, but with the lack of cleanliness in the dining area, it was hard not to feel a little put off.

Judy M.

Yelp
Love this place. High quality tasty and quick. Very reasonably priced. My favourites are 5 spice pork belly bahn mi and braised beef bao. The sweet potato fries are perfectly crisp on the outside and nice and soft inside. I really miss the green papaya salad and the duck confit.

Corey F.

Yelp
They make such a good food! The kimchi fries are so good! The chicken bahn mi is amazing! The fried chicken bao is also amazing! It's places like these that make me love, Toronto.

Yoshi G.

Yelp
A Bahn Mi place with no pâté or Vietnamese cold cuts??? Why though? Not bad, but options are just ok.

Steven N.

Yelp
Found this place on yelp as we were craving for Vietnamese sandwich during our trip to Toronto. We ordered 2 kinds of sandwiches, grilled pork and beef. Taste was average. Not too bad, but I was not impressed. There was a lot of carrots in the banh mi, which is not typical for banh mi. The meat was chewy. Service was fast

Julienne P.

Yelp
We ordered a grilled pork and pork belly Banh Mi. We wanted to order the cold cuts Vietnamese Banh Mi but they didn't have it here. If you're looking for an authentic Vietnamese Banh Mi place then this is not it. The flavors are similar to a traditional Việt Banh Mi but not the same at all. The pickled carrots also tasted different and there wasn't the usual herbs. Also no pate spread or Việt Mayo on this as well. It's more of a fusion Banh Mi and it was a bit on the salty side. It's not a bad sandwich but not what I was craving for.

Lauren A.

Yelp
The bao buns had me on my knees, I fell in love. I had the beef and the friend chicken one. The friend chicken was my favorite. I still think about it. The place is small inside, there are a few tables to sit at. The bao buns are delicious and the service is quick. You order your food at the counter and can sit and eat there or have your food to go.

Christine A.

Yelp
This is definitely the place to go for a great Banh Mi. If you've never had banh mi before you must try it!! This place has amazing flavour and great Prices. The sandwiches are packed with delicious fresh herbs and pickled veggies making the sandwich fresh and savoury. This is a must try!!

Jess D.

Yelp
The best Bahn Mi here is the Grilled Chicken with sriracha and jalapeños and our favorite bao was the fried chicken. Everything was super good but i recommend the chicken ones over anything.

Ian G.

Yelp
With a location at York University, where I work, I often have trouble deciding to get anything else I love Banh Mi so much. Love that they're made fresh and to my specifications. Bummed that they are not open year-round, seem to temporary Lee close during breaks when there's fewer students around if that was more clear they'd get five.

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Banh Mi Boys has always been a treat when coming down to the city. While the prices are on the higher end of banh mi, the amount of filling and fresh produce used is worth splurging from time to time. The flavours are bold and well balanced, and each component of the banh mi works well in there. The sauces are a nice addition and completes the sandwich as a whole. Overall worth coming from time to time, and a great meal on the go as well.

Lester C.

Yelp
Always great banh mi sandwiches at BMB! I typically order on an app and grab pickup here as they can get pretty busy. The sandwiches always taste great where you can choose from an assortment of proteins. I love the pork belly but the classic grilled chicken or pork taste good too. My favourite treat however are the baos they have here. It's the same protein choices as the banh mi sandwiches but great way to try two different ones in one meal. Lastly, I've had their kimchi fries a few times and it's also a great treat! Definitely a fan!!!

Vivian S.

Yelp
As more modern taken on Bahn Mi sandwiches go, this place does up the flavour right and the sides like the kimxchi fries or tofu fries are packed with toppings and sauces to overload the flavour senses as well. Their take on tacos and baos bring in the cross mix of texture and flavours with the crunch or pillowy baos. If you arent looking for a traditional vietnamese sandwich this place wont disappoint.

Sammy T.

Yelp
A four-star rating for this place doesn't mean it's the best Bahn Mi I've ever had, but it's definitely the best one I've had in downtown Toronto, so really, the stars are relative to the location. I had the grilled pork bahn mi and strongly recommend it. Flavours are rich and the service is quick, but the bun is just average. I think the trickiness to making a bahn mi comes in the marination of the meat and the crispyness of the bun. This place got the meat marination down, but maybe could up their game on the bread. Despite it all, would I come again to satisfy my bahn mi cravings? Heck yea- especially for under $8.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
I LOVE IT HERE. DELICIOUS baos and banh mis, these boys know how to make great sandwiches that are a mix of fusion with a kick of nostalgia. I tried their grilled pork banh mi and the braised beef steam bao. Both were full of flavour and the small accompaniments and sauces specific to each one really enhanced the asian flair. I shared these with my mom and for around $10, we had a great and delicious meal! Overall, some of the best bites I had in Toronto.

Claudia C.

Yelp
We ordered the kalbi beef banh mi and club steamed bao. The kalbi beef was super dry and the bun was very hard to chew. It was so dry to the point where I couldn't even finish the banh mi. The club steamed bao was pretty good as the chicken was super juicy.

Gerald W.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese banh mi chicken sandwich. I am not usually a fan of fusion food but I am a fan of Banh Mi boys on Queen St W. Their sandwiches are delish and tasty. They can adjust the spice level for you. In the past I tried the pork and the Kimchi fires. The buns are softer than the traditional banh mi buns. It is easier to eat. I am a repeat customer and will come back. I want to try their other sandwiches.

Simran A.

Yelp
Came here for late lunch and the place was empty. The seating is very limited so I can imagine the place getting crowded quickly. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. I and my sister shared the grilled chicken bahn mi and kimchi fries. I definitely recommend getting the fries, they were really good and the bahn mi was great as well. The meat in both fries and sandwich was full of flavor. These two items was enough food for two people. The service is fast but I was disappointed by the cleanliness of the place. The tables were dirty so I had to wipe it off with a tissue paper. Parking can be hard to find in the area.

Paul H.

Yelp
The menu has not changed for years and there is a reason for that. It is all great and I feel there is nothing that can go. Covid protocols are good with enough space in the store to order, wait then leave. One of the best Banh Mi sandwiches out there. Person fav is the grilled pork... double meat of course.

Meghan B.

Yelp
Visited last year, for a quick bite while walking around Downtown Toronto. I tried the fried chicken bahn mi bao and all I can say is... it was perfect. Juicy, crispy chicken, soft and chewy bao bun, and crunchy flavorful toppings like cucumber, carrots, jalapeno and cilantro... yum. I'll be dreaming of this sandwich until I have the pleasure of eating it again.

Crystal N.

Yelp
I loveeee their kimchi fries and bao!! I tried both their kalbi viet bun and their pork belly bao but man.. their baos are so soft, plump, slightly sweet and delicious! Even though they areeee a wee small , they're packed with flavors. The viet sub was also good but I find that viet subs have too much bread for me. I know I know... its supposed to have high bread to filling ration but I'm also trying to be healthy and eat less carbs. The kalbi viet sub was alright, but I definitely recommend the five spice pork belly bao and the braised beef bao. My coworker was in love with her braised beef bao lol!!! This was a review based on an uber eats delivery for Friday lunch. Good job! Will order from them again

Mandy A.

Yelp
So good! It's perfect for a quick lunch. All the ingredients were very fresh and flavourful. We tried three different sandwiches and they were all delicious. The staff were also very friendly and the service was quick. We will definitely be going again.
