At the Chapel, Bruton, Somerset, UK - Explore & Book

"We’d already planned a lazy weekend lunch at the Chapel, after hearing about it through friends. It sounded great: a restored medieval chapel, with unpretentious food and a laid-back atmosphere. Then they opened 10 gorgeous rooms, too, so we went for the night – and we loved it. The hub of this charming Somerset town, the Chapel buzzes with bonhomie. You enter through heavy wooden doors and feel awed by the building; ahead are 2 enormous windows, a soaring high ceiling, suspended bauble lighting and tall church candles; underneath are wooden tables with calfskin chairs. It is an immaculate restoration – the sense of history is palpable but the look is contemporary, with exquisite furniture handmade by former owner Ahmed. Nowadays it's headed up by a local hotel group – the masterminds behind The Swan Wedmore and a string of other boutique hotels – that's much-loved by i-escapers. Every table was full – a mix of families, couples and friends – and every plate of food looked fresh and delicious. We peeked in the open kitchen, admired the vast wood-fired oven in the on-site bakery, then wandered down to the Clubroom and sunny terrace where priceless original art from a local gallery lines the walls. Everything looked fabulous yet nothing felt intimidating. And every time we've returned since, we've loved it just as much. Highs The 10 rooms, made to hole up in. Original stained-glass windows, White Company linens and robes, and enormous TVs. Plus breakfasts in bed The food: we loved our chargrilled chicken, super-fresh salads and wood-fired pizzas The price range, which offers something for everyone. There's a cheap room and inexpensive dining options, something in between, or you can splurge on fabulous Loft Suite Bruton, with its ancient houses and modern vibe. Just 2 hours from London and well placed for Stourhead, Longleat and Frome Lows Breakfast is home-baked croissants left outside your door (+ homemade jam in your fridge). It allows you to be lazy, but if you’d prefer a cooked option, you’ll need to pay extra Service is pretty relaxed. Adjust your pace accordingly Due to the original 19th century windows being leaded shut, some rooms can get quite warm" - Liz Simpson

Excellent croissant at the bakery but sloooow service so add some time to account for that. Very tasty sausage roll:) Coffee blend a bit over roasted (so too bitter for me but that is just my taste). Beautiful building :)

What a beautiful experience! From the warm welcome to the attentive service, the staff were excellent. The building itself is unique and historical, with a vaulted ceiling. The decor is exquisite. I had a jacket spud and my friends had squid, soup, salad, ham & egg. All very reasonably priced and delicious. Would highly recommend. We went for a walk on Corhelstone hill aftereards, a short drive and relatively flat - good for full bellies!

A lovely short trip to Bruton - At The Chapel is ideally situated to explore this part of Somerset - hotel has a car park at the back but a small short hill to get to the front of the hotel. Also on road parking. Rooms large; clean and lovely. All staff were great. Morning croissant tasty and very nice :) .Breakfast good and included with room. Brilliant book/coffee shop across the road

Bruton is such an adorable little town and At The Chapel is a gem. It is located right in the center of Bruton's High Street, so you can walk everywhere. I stayed in Room 2 with the stained glass windows which was beautiful, super clean and comfortable. The restaurant also serves delicious food. I felt like I had everything I needed when staying here, felt very content and blessed.

Google
Can't speak about the rooms but gave it five stars - Staff were really attentive and really lovely. It was mine and my husband's first night out, post baby. We'd had it planned for our anniversary a year prior but unfortunately I thought I'd attend pregnant but I ended up giving birth the day before so we couldn't make it. The year was worth the wait because the food we had was absolutely incredible. Didn't take any photos because I just wanted to eat the food 👌🏼

room was lovely and very stylish great furniture and bed. Reception staff very nice. But member that served breakfast was sharp and impersonal. When out breakfast eventually arrives it was cold and the poached eggs were hard. Don’t realise toast would’ve buttered my husband doesn’t eat butter I apologised and said he couldn’t eat it. We were told there is bread and toaster help ourselves. Who’s would have been fine but made a my breakfast even closer. To be honest felt we should mention the disappointment but saw same lady again it put us off. Lovely place to stay though

We have stayed here once before and loved it. This was a treat for us both just to escape the pressures of hectic life for one night. A beautiful building which makes you feel very relaxed from the moment you enter. Lovely friendly staff and great food. Will definitely return!

Our recent visit to At the Chapel was outstanding.| We were given a warm welcome from Chloe & Annie, and the entire team were exceptional and provided fabulous service during our stay.|A special thank you also to the main chef and his team for the fabulous, well prepared meals. (we enjoyed both lunch and dinner at the restaurant)|We stayed in the beautiful Dovecote Suite, which offered stunning accommodation and views. In the morning, freshly baked croissants from their bakery were delivered to our bedroom door - milk and jam in the fridge (in the room) and Nespresso coffee machine & pods made it a wonderful start to the day.|Breakfast, (included in our rate), was served in the Gallery area of the restaurant and was delicious with buffet items and a la carte hot food. Thank you so much for a wondaful stay and we will definitely be back again soon.|Mary & Greg

Yelp
What a solace from the city. It was just really nice get away. I wish I could go back by just hopping in my car rather than flying over the ocean. My friend in London recommended this trip to Bruton to stay at the Chapel for a short weekend. We had all our meals there and just loved the food. Cocktail was not so great- Moscamule was not served in proper copper jar. Their bakery is amazing. The chia seed, other multi grain bread was sent from the heaven. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Whether you are visiting The Hauser and Wirth Gallery, beautiful Stourhead or simply passing by, I recommend you stop by for a meal At the Chapel. The vibe of redesigned sacral interior is very appealing and creates a truly atmospheric backdrop for appreciating the food and drink. Starting the evening with an aromatic espresso martini I was shortly after served with some wonderful bread baked on site. For the main course I picked a ribeye steak which was of excellent quality and surprisingly affordable. Everyone I was there with was satisfied with their meals and we were the last to leave the place. What a gem!

Yelp
What a beautiful place! As the name rather obviously implies, this is a restaurant/tea room in a former chapel. What is also unique is that they have a rather upmarket a la carte menu as well as a more affordable pizza menu, thus catering for all tastes and budgets. I came for afternoon tea and was happy to explore the building (check out the most beautiful toilets!) - unfortunately, we ran out of time to walk around the grounds. Apparently, Bruton is quite well known but I had never been - fully understand the village's attraction and look forward to returning for a more in-depth visit.

Yelp
First time visiting the English countryside + Bruton with my family last week and At The Chapel made it feel like home! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful space. The rooms were spacious and very tastefully decorated and the bathrooms were so luxurious. The croissants delivered to your door in the morning are heavenly, especially topped with the jam. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant at the hotel is fantastic and very convenient. Unfortunately, the hotel does not have air conditioning so it was very hot. The windows do open and are very large and beautiful. They have Dyson fans in the rooms but these provide very little cool air. Not a major complaint, though. Also, Bruton is a very small town and there is not much to do right around there. We visited the Hauser and Wirth museum close by and spent a day in Bath. Highly recommend this space!

Yelp
Nice venue, terrible service. Had to basically beg for a menu. Intended in staying for a meal but service was so bad decided to take business elsewhere.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Always excellent food and service. Lots of local ingredients well cooked. Great bar downstairs and nice rooms if you're out too late.

Yelp
Let's get started.. Firstly, if you live nearby and are at a cross roads about where to eat for either lunch or dinner or even take away (yes I did say take away), just go here. "Wow what an assertive review, darling, I'm pretty sure the guy writing this review wor-" I'm saying go because of a variety of reaons but most of all the pizza's. Just get one, it will be the best pizza you're going to get in Dorset and probably the surrounding counties too. I think the there was a string of four or five visits where I just exclusively ordered pizza. "Surely if it's this good it's going to be pretty pricey right?" On average you're looking to pay £11-13 pounds for a pizza which in my opinion for a wood fired pizza of any standard isn't that much nowadays. This isn't just an average pizza though and is most definitely worth the money. *Get the chorizo one get the chorizo one get the chorizo one..* "This guy keeps on pushing the pizza, there has to be other stuff on the menu.." Correct, after having the same pizza over and over again (I don't normally do this it was just that good) I opted for the chargrilled chicken which is up there with some of the best chicken I've ever had. If, like me, you're not that roast loving kind of person and are kind of bored of the whole roast chicken thing get this, (if you're not opting for a pizza). "I only see four stars though you've obviously hiding something from us you've made it seem great so far" Well noticed, a couple things annoy me (annoy is a strong word but hopefully you see where I'm coming from). I could be really cynical and say sometimes there are a few too many kids which are noisy but there are kids everywhere nowadays so I'm going to let that one slide (This is only really a case at lunch). Now, you may of been on their site, looked at the menu and seen a burger. It's not bad at all, a lot of people order it and are happy with it. However, on the menu it says "At the Chapel burger, Westcombe Cheddar, skinny fries *seems like the caps lock key is being randomly pressed but whatever*. You'll be happy to know that all those things are on the burger. I ordered it, I believe on my very first visit and it arrived, big bowl of chips which is great, everything's fine. Until, I discover this mustardy saucy relishy paste in the burger. Why? Just Why? It doesn't need it at all. In my honest opinion if you need to add any relish of funky sauce to a beef burger you don't have enough faith in the quality and taste of the rest of the ingredients. It's just such a let down because the burgers of a decent standard and it just feels tainted by this sauce which THEY DON'T EVEN LIST IN THE MENU. That's what pissed me off, if they said relish or whatever on the menu I would of asked for it on the side. If the restaurant reads this review, add whatever sauce you put on it to the menu description for the burger or even better remove it all together, it really doesn't need it. There's a reason fast food chains have to stick pickles and mayo and the rest into their "products". Chips range from 6/10 to 10/10 based on how recently they've been cooked. Get a rediculous amount of chips as a side. I haven't seen anyone finish them single handedly, not that I'm complaining. It's way better than having next to none. Nothing wrong with decor, I'm a boring guy so don't expect me to go into tones of detail about this. Oh yeah, phone up and book a table. You don't really want to be stranded in Bourton for too long with nothing to do if you get my drift. I don't work there by the way..

Yelp
Very disappointing. The place is fantastic layout spacious and bright. The food was poor. The burger was so salty, the chips were mush and all different sizes. It was expensive for the quality of food. I really wanted to like ATC but sadly I won't be going back

Yelp
Arrived late for lunch at around 3:00 so only pizza available but the best pizza I've had in years! Service very friendly and the other plates of food visible looked excellent. Would definitely come again.

Yelp
At The Chapel is a real gem in a lovely town. The food is excellent, the space is beautiful and the attitude is friendly and very helpful. We stayed in the attached b&b which really is a great relaxing break. Beautifully detailed - just enough of everything you might need to have a restful stay. And the bath & showers were THE stand out favourite! Food is very good. The sunday roast, pizzas and sea bream dishes were all excellent. The croissants in the morning are perfect... I can't recommend At The Chapel enough!

Yelp
Oh gosh how disappointing, it looks the part beautiful setting views across the countryside, but bit by bit the cracks start to appear. As the saying goes promises much delivers little. Like a film set it appears to be a bistro but is actually not meant to be actually used. Three cooks are visible and yet they let pass food that was less than acceptable, to me this always indicates a top down problem as no one is keeping and marking standards, no pride in what is being sent out. And they are not shy about charging £8 for a small plate of mozzarella and tomatoe and let's face it you don't need to have trained years to make that but still it was so cold and therefore flavourless, I didn't have this but my friend had and nearly had an ice cream headache from the coldness. The meat wasn't rested so bled over the plate very unappetising. I could go on but will spare you.
