"Chinatown Market, Chinatown The Loft District by True Hand Society. Looking for a case of dehydrated shrimp? Or how about a carton of crazy candies? Or what about that ever elusive century egg? Don't worry the Chinatown Market has it all. Even if you're not looking to shop, it's worth the trip just to see the awesome goods."

They closes today after being in business for 3 decades. It has emotionally supported me being an immigrant. It reminds me a little taste of home. I love about how I can find exotic items that otherwise wouldn’t find in other supermarkets. The pricing’s very affordable as well, so it became of my reason to even go to Chinatown, is to get some groceries. Even up till the last day, they gave us a generous 50% off all items closing sale.

Unbelievable place - lots of medicinal items, teas, produce, kitchen equipment, well worth exploring. Less hectic. Lots of exotic mushrooms and very clean.

I was very sad to find out yesterday that this staple of China town will be closing next week. I have been going there for nearly 10 years and it was exclusively where I bought my Nishiki rice and this curry oil that I can't find anywhere else. I remember lugging 25 pound bags of rice back to the gayborhood every few months. Even though Philadelphia is blessed with many Asian grocery stores, like I said, this one had many products that the other stores didn't carry. They all are like that. The point was that it was in China town. What is left? It is beyond saddening and just going in there yesterday was depressing. It is an institution and I am very sad that it is going away.

Sure, most of these kinds of small Asian supermarkets have a fishy smell, but this one had the scent of a melting octopus popsicle. Add to that the fact that it seemed to be located in someone's basement, and there was hardly any room to walk around, combined with the relatively small selection to choose from, and you have a very underwhelming place to shop.

Always have to stop in here when in Chinatown and get stuff you can't find in ShopRite. Prices are always great and it's awesome seeing ingredients you're not accustomed to.

Love this place so much, the produce is always fresh and there's not much they don't have in the way of specialty items, it really is an Asian supermarket! They've always got the best music playing too, in a variety of languages other than English, which is a nice change of pace.

I like to cook Japanese food and I found everything I was looking for here, along with cheap but good-quality tea cups. Seeing all the marine animals in tanks was a little sad for me but I don't want to be judgemental. In general I recommend this store if you are cooking Asian food.

One of philly's best for exotic Asian tastes. Where else can you find 5lb bags of dried chilies? Amazing selection of Chinese and Japanese foods imported directly from Asia. Huge selection of Asian produce, pastries, noodles, meats, and seafood that are unique and delicious. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get. Hours are long and they are open holidays. This is a real experience not to be missed in Philadelphia. Bring your phone so you can translate the writing on the packages. Google has a translator that can be used to read Chinese and Japanese write off the packages. Have you ever purchased anything there that I thought was bad or questionable. You just have to have an open mind and willing to try new things. The only thing is it is underground and has no windows.
