"When you come across a shop down Rivington Street with a sign that says ‘ARTWORDSBOOKSHOPQRSTUVWXYZabcontemporaryvisualculture1234567890&£-–/.,:;‘’!?*“”–(){}@%+=’, you’ve reached the right place. If the name didn’t give it away already, it’s speciality bookshop offering the best in art and design inspiration and literature. We love Artwords not only because they have a great selection but also sell a wide range of current international and independent magazines. You just can’t beat leafing through printed matter, so pop in for a browse, find something new, and definitely don’t buy it later on Amazon." - DesignStudio

"This is our favourite shop for books and magazines when we're in need of cool reference and inspiration pieces. We think it's important to support local, independent bookshops like this one and given its close proximity to our office, we can get our hands on the goods faster than we could from Amazon anyway!" - Them

Swung by on a whim on a Friday afternoon. Fantastic selection of books, magazines, and indie zines – I bought several items, which I’ve enjoyed flicking through. I’ve knocked a star off as, like basically all other reviewers that’ve marked their score down over the last year or so, I can’t particularly recommend it as the place to go if you’d like warm, knowledgeable customer service. It’s for when you know what you want and intend to be in and out in minutes. It’s notable that the 5/5 star reviews tend to only mention the selection and don’t pick out the staff for particular praise, so I’d hope the owner has spotted this trend.

I really like selection, but why did you hire rude staff? Two ladies keep chatting even though I'm standing in front of the counter. They didn't say a word to me or even looked at me, just tapping her fingers on the payment machine. What a completely rude gesture. Even when I said thank you when I and left, they didn't react or even look at me. They completely ignored me. I've experienced this twice. They might have ignored me, thinking I was a traveler who wouldn't look twice. However, I am your neighbor. I wonder what will happen if I go through this a third time. The status of bookstores is falling with that rude staffs

Good local book store with lot of art and design. They also have great selection of periodicals. Great place to visit often to check. One of charms in Broadway Market.

Very lovely bookshop worth a stop. Great selection of magazines as well. Nicely curated thematic arrangement as well, which makes it easy to navigate the store following a narrative. Will be coming back!

It's always a pleasure walking in front of their window and see how beautifully they arranged all the cover of the book in a mono-chromatic display (every week is different!). Their vaste selection of books and very friendly customer service are quite unique nowadays, definitely a spot you don't want to miss when in Hackney!
