On the Grid : Artwords

"This is our favourite shop for books and magazines when we're in need of cool reference and inspiration pieces. We think it's important to support local, independent bookshops like this one and given its close proximity to our office, we can get our hands on the goods faster than we could from Amazon anyway!" - Them

"When you come across a shop down Rivington Street with a sign that says ‘ARTWORDSBOOKSHOPQRSTUVWXYZabcontemporaryvisualculture1234567890&£-–/.,:;‘’!?*“”–(){}@%+=’, you’ve reached the right place. If the name didn’t give it away already, it’s speciality bookshop offering the best in art and design inspiration and literature. We love Artwords not only because they have a great selection but also sell a wide range of current international and independent magazines. You just can’t beat leafing through printed matter, so pop in for a browse, find something new, and definitely don’t buy it later on Amazon." - DesignStudio

This bookshop is a jewel. It is the only place I know of sadly where I can find new publications, zines, essays and publications that are unavailable elsewhere. I always find something good- I really love this shop. I have discovered DNA, Real Review, Viscose and many other one-offs and treasures that have really filled a space in my reading life that is hard to fill elsewhere. To many years to come!

This is one of my favorite bookstores in London. Always worth a stop in and love their emphasis on periodicals and independent publishers/presses. Despite other reviews, I've always found the staff to be warm and welcoming.

One of the best bookshops I know — a must-visit every time I’m at Broadway Market. Fantastic selection, great atmosphere, and incredibly helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Thanks, guys — you're amazing!

Great selection of books and zines. Note they dont carry alot of novels and more art books, non fiction, cook books, obscure wonderful books.

very rude stuff. checked other reviews and it appears to be a consistent problem over the years. they don’t allow you to take photos or notes which is just hilarious.

Swung by on a whim on a Friday afternoon. Fantastic selection of books, magazines, and indie zines – I bought several items, which I’ve enjoyed flicking through. I’ve knocked a star off as, like basically all other reviewers that’ve marked their score down over the last year or so, I can’t particularly recommend it as the place to go if you’d like warm, knowledgeable customer service. It’s for when you know what you want and intend to be in and out in minutes. It’s notable that the 5/5 star reviews tend to only mention the selection and don’t pick out the staff for particular praise, so I’d hope the owner has spotted this trend.
