"In western Kyoto , there is a very large forest of bamboo. As you can see in the photo, the shoots grow very tall, making those who stroll by look quite small. I'm sure there are times when this road is crowded, but when we were there, people were few and far between. My only regret was not understanding that this forest would be the only one we saw. I wish I had taken more photos. Bamboo grows extremely fast, which is why it is the fastest renewable plant product that I know. It is not a tree, it is a grass. Some forests have grown to 20 to 30 feet in a growing season of four months. Just Google Arashiyama bamboo forest and you will see more photos and more data about this location and how to get there. The walk through this forest was most peaceful."

This is a great place to visit when you are in Kyoto. It is accessible via many types of public transport like buses or train. The area is so serene and green. If you wish for less crowd, you can always pop by earlier, at the crack of dawn. The walking paths are wide, clean and loops through and around the bamboo forest and beyond. The amenities are good and clean. I had a great time exploring the place. Since this also a neighbourhood suburb, please take care to respect the privacy of the homeowners there.

I was visiting this place before social media made it so popular. You could Post 100 pictures, but really it's the feeling you get when you're there that makes it worth it. I would recommend it if you don't want it to be so crowded, go early in the morning or before sunset. This place is open 24 hours a day but I wouldn't come here in the middle of the night! If you're looking for serenity, take the whole path and go up and down the whole hillside. Stop and see the temples, and even the surrounding hillside streets. Take your time, and you will enjoy the serenity.

Went to the bamboo forest for about 10:00 in the morning on a weekday and it was packed with lots of people/ tourist but it was decent enough to get a really good pictures. I love how enclose the forest is, which meant that you were very shaded from the heat. The area itself is huge summit, so ensure you are a keen hiker or very fit to explore the main areas. The group and I just explored the lower part and it was just enough to get a taste of what the bamboo forest can offer. Overall gold experience if you simply want to scratch the surface.

Visiting the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto was an incredible experience. The moment you step onto the path, you are surrounded by towering green stalks that create a surreal, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The way the light filters through the dense canopy is breathtaking, and the gentle rustling sound of the bamboo in the breeze makes the whole walk feel very tranquil and meditative. While it can get crowded, especially on a nice day, the sheer scale and beauty of the forest make it absolutely worth the trip. It's a must-see landmark that truly captures the unique beauty of Japan.

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto is a magical place! Walking through the towering bamboo stalks feels peaceful and otherworldly. We visited in the evening around 5:30 pm — it was less crowded, though some pathways were closed at that time. Still, there were plenty of spots to explore and take beautiful photos. There are also temples inside that you can visit and capture pictures of. A must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers alike! 🌿✨

2025 August 4★ A nice tranquil pathway with super tall bamboo trees. These things are no joke, it's at least about 5 stories high and maybe up to 7 at certain spots. They say come early... And yes, you should if you can, otherwise by about 10am, the place will also be lined up with tourists galore. If you come a day after it rains, it might be good to bring mosquito repellent. There are some in the deeper areas. Though this trek isn't that long depending on the route taken. There are gardens and shrines in the area and these have entrance fees to cover the maintenance. Imagine a horde of people wandering inside? So implementing a fee is necessary (not exactly ideal though). Otherwise, expect to spend about 1.5 to 2 hours here given the pictures you take. If you were to just walk around, you could do this in about an hour. Supporting the local stores are also good.

Visiting the Bamboo Forest in Kyoto was such a beautiful experience. Walking among the tall bamboo trees felt so peaceful and unique, almost like stepping into another world. The sound of the leaves moving with the wind made the place even more relaxing. It can get crowded, but going early in the morning makes it much quieter and more magical. Truly a must-visit spot in Kyoto! 🌿✨

Nature lover here - while it is very impressive, it is not worth putting on your “must visit” list. The crowds take away all the charm of enjoying the nature… maybe visit it in the early morning… But I definitely recommend exploring the neighbourhood - there are a few wonderful temples that also have a bamboo forest (not as big as that, but still).
