Apna Chat Bhavan

Visited this place for the first time and was super impressed with the grocery store and the deli/cafe. We got there just after they opened at 11am on Saturday and were the first to place our order. We ended up getting two non-vegetarian thali plates. We were given a buzzer to notify us when the order was ready but the lady behind the counter did tell us that it would be 20mins before all was ready for serving. It took about 40mins but the food was good and spicy. I would have to say that the meat portions were mostly bone for both thali plates. None the less, it was a large amount of food. The amount of rice given and the breads was more than enough for lunch. I would say one Thali plate is good enough for 2 people but its a decent deal at $12.99 I think... the Veggie platter is $10.99. I will try that next time. The super market is well stocked with so much its amazing! Also found some gluten free frozen breads in their freezer case. We will definitely be coming back here to shop and eat!

Update, came back last night and tried more goodies and we were not disappointed. The gobi Manchurian (cauliflower/vegetarian) was sooo good and we tried the masai kofta, another winner and will be a new staple. We also tried the chicken tikka and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. This is not a sit down restaurant. It’s a restaurant and some tables in an Indian supermarket. They were slammed because of Diwali. The food was great and we will be back. We got chicken 65 as an app and it was spicy. We got a cheese dosa and palak paneer which were great and a mango lassi which was also very good.

There are two sides to this place, there is the store side and then the restaurant side. The store side is great lots of different foods to pickup. They also have a lot of different spices that you can purchase. I really like the frozen section. The restaurant side is also great. They have a case full of Indian sweats and other treats. The food is really good, we always like the goat biryani and samosas. Can’t wait to go back here. I would recommend this place for good Indian food.

I have had hundred of Chana masala in my life and this one feels like it’s straight off the street cart. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Portland hands down!!! This place deserves several awards. I am totally vegetarian so I get plain dosa, idli, and Chana masala. If I want a snack: the samosas as well. Family friendly, lots of indoor/outdoor seating and a small movie theater with music. Also a grocery store, you’re welcome!

If you’re not eating their Goat dum biryani you’re missing out. Very reasonable price and more than enough quantity. Also their freshly made Junnu is so yummy.

While the Veg biryani portion size is huge, there are barely any vegetables in it and not much flavour as well. I hope they can improve the recipe and also offer more vegetarian briyani's like other places.

Have come here a few times for take-out. The Biriyani is very good, although almost too spicy even when we asked for medium. Nice samosas also.

We took a take out. Food was super fresh & delicious. We ordered Chicken dum biryani which comes along with raita & salan. Apollo fish was top notch. Both were spicy & hot just like we prefer. If ur spice tolerance is less btr to inform while ordering to make food less/no spice. Less expensive compared to others, quality is not compromised & portion size is perfect.
