Yelp
We stayed here on two different occasions over the past couple of years, and have had two great experiences. The first time was in the summer of 2014, and we had a view facing that gorgeous, crisp, and fresh Gold Medal Park. The second was for the holiday season 2015, and we had a room facing Washington Avenue and that awesome new US Bank Stadium. You also get a partial view of the downtown Minneapolis skyline, which is quite pretty at night.
Pros of this hotel:
* Not pretentious
* Affordable
* Has a pool and a whirlpool
* A decent fitness center with just the basics
* The lobby smells amazing
* Affordable breakfast and lunch items for purchase in the lobby
* Large windows that make for bright rooms and good views
* Easy access to Interstates 35W and I94
* Easy access to downtown Minneapolis
Cons of this hotel:
* The only thing that really bothers me lack of space to put your clothes.
* You have to hang them in a fashion that's not sideways, like most closets, and you're very limited with the space
* There are also no drawers to store anything.
* I feel like there's really adequate room in the rooms to put some additional storage, so I think they should just go for it - give us storage! I mean, we did live out of our suitcases and made due with the small hanger area, but that could be improved indeed.
We booked the room using a special birthday offer rate, where you pay full price the first night, then the next two nights you pay your birth year, so we payed somewhere between $60-$70 a night for our second and third nights, based on my husband's birth year. Notice how cleverly I disguised his birth year?
Parking can be a little tricky. There's no hotel garage, but there is a garage located on 9th and Washington, right next door; that's where we park. The daily rate isn't really insane, and my husband and I split the cost, so it's a fairly easy pill to swallow. There is a small lot, which we've never tried taking advantage of. I just read another Yelper's review and learned that there are some dedicated, complimentary hotel parking spots, so do try to check those out.
We really come here because we like the vibe at this place, the general aesthetic of the hotel and rooms, and we do like their pool area, a lot. The pool isn't very large, and I'm not a big lap swimmer, but its a nice, warm space to relax and take a dip. The WXYZ Bar is cool, and on our first visit, we invited friends and family to come hang in the bar area, which worked really well.
As long as they keep this place in clean, tip-top shape, we'll continue to stay here, because, hey, Aloft, you're A-Ok.
