The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"Chef-owner Patrick Kriss of Alo Food Group has amassed an empire of restaurants across the city, starting with his flagship fine-dining enterprise Alo in 2015. While it’s still notoriously challenging to land a reservation there, sister spot Aloette is more accessible and friendlier on the pocketbook. Kriss’s oxymoronic “upscale diner” features burgers, fries, and other usual suspects, but everything is finessed and fancified. The fried chicken is laced with yuzu honey; parfaits are engorged with foie gras; and golden spuds are zhuzhed up with bloody mary aioli. Know before you go: There are now two locations. The original (on Spadina) offers lunch on Fridays only, and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The newer spot on Bay Street is open for lunch Monday through Friday, but does not do weekend brunch service." - Tiffany Leigh

"Open since 2017, this stylish bistro remains one of the coolest reservations in town. Chef Patrick Kriss and his well-oiled restaurant group again demonstrate that they have the Midas touch. With the tasting menu-only ALO just upstairs, the team here is impressively polished in this diner setting. No wider than a train car, the cozy space offers satisfying, approachable dishes that look and taste far better than imagined. Iceberg wedges dressed in chive cream arrive under a mountain of puffed wild rice. A complimentary loaf of cheddar brioche wouldn’t be out of place on white tablecloth. Everyone wants the burger. And for dessert, there must be pie. The signature lemon meringue is a towering finale that will have you rolling out the door." - Michelin Inspector

"Transforming their elegant parade of tweezer-precise tasting menus to takeaway, this oft sold-out experience from Canada’s top restaurant features five courses of daintily labelled, carefully packaged dishes. Accompanied by a personalized menu, easy-to-follow serving instructions and an ambience-setting Spotify playlist drafted by chef Patrick Kriss himself, the weekly-changing meal might start with scrumptious cheddar-jalapeño-filled, black-onion-crusted gougères, shucked oysters and lightly dressed crudo."

Stopped here after planning poorly to try and find reservations at a restaurant before a concert at Bud stage. What we just wanted was a bite to eat and a beer and Aloette To Go fulfilled this. There are a couple of tables inside, but we decided to eat outside in the alleyway. It seems like a very busy restaurant with mostly to go/Uber eats orders. Our burgers were great, cooked perfectly, and the two beers (woodhouse lager) we had were very cold and hit the spot. Front counter Service was fine.

This is my go-to veggie burger in the city - never never disappoints! Beats the veggie patties at Rosie's, Shake Shack, fast food places obviously. The veggie patty is juicy and flavourful, and the crispy cheddar is my guilty pleasure. I used to find the fries quite oily but they've grown on me. Better than the wedge salad.

Excellent value - pricing is really good compared to other burger spots around the city. Had the crispy chicken sandwich and it was really good; the fries completely stole the show though.

I’ve been a loyal customer here for years, and often order their wedge salad — however, I’ve noticed that their portions have gotten extremely small. There is barely any avocado in the wedge anymore, when you used to get quite a few slices. I also only receive what looks like a few shreds of lettuce. The price has always been high for a salad, and I used to get it because it was suitable for a meal, but it just doesn’t make sense to order it anymore. Did they think they could just reduce their portions by almost half, and none of their customers would notice?

Ordered for takeout. The veggie burger, while doesn’t look that good, is actually super tasty! They don’t use a meat substitute burger; it’s more of a grain type patty. It’s probably the only grain patty that I’ve actually enjoyed. The toppings were fresh and the bun was fluffy. The Caesar salad was a miss for me. I really didn’t like the dressing. It was a bit sour for my liking. I would definitely order the burger again.

Tried the wedge salad and lemon meringue pie for takeout. Very friendly service and they brought the food out when it was ready. Heard lots about this restaurant and was excited to try! Food was just okay if you're comparing the prices. The wedge salad was good but nothing special and personally wouldn't order again. I think there was too much of the wild rice, crispy soybeans and pumpkin seed mix. Would go back and try other menu items: the burger or fried chicken lettuce wraps.

Service was fast and friendly. We got the Go Burger, the Aloette Burger, loaded fries, wedge salad and the lemon meringue twist + s’mores cookie. The salad was a sleeper hit - fresh, crunchy and the dressing was to die for. A great “fast food” option if you’re in Liberty Village.

I grabbed dinner with a friend at the Liberty Village location tonight. Really cool, cozy, smaller restaurant but the food itself was packing large, bold, delicious flavors! First of all, I have to say the team here were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Had really great energy and made my friend and I feel welcome. Chef Daniel really made sure we not only got the best things off the menu, but made sure it was to our liking. The food itself was carefully made fo perfection. The burgers we had were delicious and packed with flavour. We also had desserts which were delicious and great after some rich burgers. I'd definitely come back to this location. As much as I want to say for the clearly delicious food, the team here is what made the experience really great.
