I lost a pair of eyeglasses in my neighborhood in Studio City a couple of years ago. I assumed they were lost for good, and bought a replacement pair.
Weeks went by and I'd nearly forgotten about the old lost glasses until one day they suddenly appeared placed on a small brick wall next to Alfred Coffee--a coffee shop just around the corner from my apartment.
"What great luck!", I thought to myself.
I took the glasses home immediately, washed them off, and wore them that very night.
A few days went by and all was fine until one night I was abruptly awakened at 3am to the sound of someone knocking urgently at my door. I refused to open it assuming it was just a lost/confused person at the wrong apartment, but after the knocking continued much longer I got closer to the door and realized that they were saying something.
I leaned in and put my ear close to the door--the sound of the knocking nearly deafening--and heard them say "Please open up, please! Please, it's your optometrist! It's an emergency!".
There's no way this could actually be my optometrist, and what sort of optometrist knocks on someone's door at 3am, I thought to myself.
But, just to make sure, I yelled out, "if you're really my optometrist, you would know my prescription! What is my prescription?"
A moment of silence went by, and all of a sudden I heard a low voice say "right eye negative 2.25, left eye negative 2.25".
Shocked by the accuracy of the voice's answer, I scrambled to unlock the door. The door swung open and to my surprise, absolutely no one was there!
I was a bit confused to say the least, but after a few minutes I decided to just lock the door and go back to bed.
Hours of tossing and turning went by, and I eventually checked the time; it was nearly 6am, so I got up and got ready for the day.
Cold brew coffee was on my mind.
Still groggy from the rough night of sleep, I walked around the corner to Alfred and ordered a large cold brew.
The service was impeccable, and I had a very nice time sitting on the patio enjoying the delicious 24oz drink. It was exactly what I needed after such a weird night.
With only ice left in the cup, I stood up to throw it away and head out, but was surprised to see something written on the side of the clear cup in black ink which was previously masked by the color of the dark cold brew.
I took a closer look and saw that handwritten on the side of the cup was "R -2.25, L -2.25".
What? How? Why?!
I was totally impressed.
The level of service and attention to detail, not to mention the absolutely delicious cold brew coffee, made for an all around positive experience.
I've been coming back here nearly every day since!
