"Alexandra Palace (or "Ally Pally," as London kids have nicknamed it), is like a park, rec center, and a concert venue wrapped into one Victorian package. As if that weren't enough, its location also provides one of the best views of the city. Between the ice skating rink, the paddle-boat-filled lake, the skate park, drive-in movie theater, and the farmer's market, it's a definite go-to for tiring out the littles. "

Alexandra Palace Art Fair is a delightful event that brings together an impressive range of contemporary and traditional art in the historic setting of Alexandra Palace. The venue itself is stunning, with its grand architecture and sweeping views of London, adding a special charm to the experience. The fair features a diverse selection of artwork, including paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, and mixed media pieces from both established and emerging artists. The variety ensures there is something for everyone, whether you're looking for a bold statement piece or a subtle decorative item. Many of the artists are present at their stands, which allows for engaging conversations about their creative process, inspirations, and techniques. One of the highlights of our visit was discovering an exceptional selection of ceramic sculptures. We couldn’t resist purchasing a couple of beautifully crafted cat statues. The level of detail and craftsmanship in these pieces was remarkable, and they now have a special place in our home. It was refreshing to see such a wide array of handmade and unique works rather than mass-produced decor. The fair is well-organized, with spacious walkways that allow visitors to browse comfortably. There are also food and drink stalls available, making it easy to take a break and soak in the artistic atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience from start to finish. Overall, Alexandra Palace Art Fair is a must-visit for art lovers, collectors, and anyone looking for a unique and inspiring cultural experience. Whether you’re buying artwork or simply admiring the creativity on display, it’s a fantastic way to spend a day in London. We’ll definitely be returning next year!

This place has an absolutely beautiful view, a well maintained park and artists all over creating works of art where they don't mind you staying and watching. Inside the venue is just as breathtaking, I went for the Knit and Stitch show, my first and I was impressed with the lay out first of all. The Isles were not tight and stalls were together in the same category. Yes the food and drink was a bit pricey but there was lots of places to sit and have your own food. I love how small details of the history remained.

Google
Great venue! Thoroughly enjoyed this venue not only to see the snooker masters 25' but also as a historical Landmark in itself. Parking is adequate as long as you get there early, and the security guys were very friendly. I enjoyed the food and drink on offer. The toilets were fine but I think there's a lack of cubicles for how big they were 4 cubicles but the plethora of urinals seems ridiculous plenty of men need a number two as well! Enough of the toilets, The game I saw was Judd trump and Barry Hawkins and while Hawkins wasn't on top form, I thoroughly enjoyed the event and there's no place better than the old Ally Pally!! Gowan Barry!

I have worked with artists at Ally Pally over the years and also been as a punter both during the day and at night although I think it's more impressive at night. Such an iconic building which deserves to be given a thorough overhaul cosmetically to bring it back to it's former glory especially as it sits on the highest point in London. A great venue to go if you prefer a standing gig rather than sitting down with a good choice of food and drink options. Not been to the ice rink but have heard it's good too.

Google
Great venue for a music gig, although it was much larger than I had expected, so could only watch the band in the screens. However, I loved the whole place and the bar areas were well run and fab!

Google
Excellent venue for so many events. Great indoor space with amazing sound system and lighting. Indoor food stalls open late are a massive plus. Been for the red bull soap box race in the summer too which was great!

I just wanted to park up and enjoy the view over London it commands, which are quite stunning at night and take a quiet moment. It's unfortunate that since covid, the roadside parking has been closed by ugly concrete and steel anti parking deployments. I had to mount the pavement to park to enjoy the before mentioned views. The pictures aren't very good but I did enjoy the taking and the quiet moment.

Google
Good venue for a gig, saw The The here and Matt Johnson and the band were utterly superb, with a great two part set. Venue is standing only, making exit and access harder, so a 15min intermission was problematic. Bit of a queue to exit the car park, but expected.

Scott D.

Yelp
Liam Gallagher!! Wicked night, spent a lot of time in the bar! It has an immense view of London's skyline and the palace is beautiful! In the actual venue there is massive and has a large selection of food and drink vendors. Was really good and is fit for purpose.

Yelp
We saw the Sum 41/Simple Plan show in October 2022. The bus up the hill to the venue was well organized, but when we got off the bus, even though it was close to the start time for the first band, there was a huge line still outside the venue. If we could have walked right in once we got off the bus, we wouldn't have missed most of Simple Plan's set. The show was sold out, which meant they packed 10,000 people in this huge room where we had to stand so far back that we couldn't see the band at all. They never should have sold that many tickets. It was so jam packed that it was hard to walk anywhere. The toilets in the ladies room barely flushed. The venue had nothing to absorb the sound on the walls so there was horrible reverb off the walls. All you could hear was the kick drum. You could barely understand what song the bands were playing. We left after a couple of songs by Sum 41 because the sound was horrible, concert was just not entertaining and there were far too many people. If you leave early, plan on walking back to the tube station a mile away because the buses don't run until the end of the show.

Yelp
Ally Pally! What a great venue! Came here to see Robyn on a Saturday. There was plentiful security but they were helpful and not like an ominous presence. They we're nice enough to let the girls in our group know that there's pickpockets in the area and to keep their purses in front of them. There is a huge indoor eating and drinking area with a live band and like food stalls and craft beer trucks so you can get your grub on before a show. Then once inside they have a massive galley with stained glass windows as the performance hall. Good sounds it was big but if you're upfront it can seem almost intimate. Great place to see a show!

Yelp
Alexandra palace located on top of a hill is a spectacular historic building symbolizing the birth of televised broadcast (BBC). It is now used for music concerts. It is also located next to a massive ice rink. Great views of the city can be seen from Alexandra palace.

Yelp
A friend bought my wife and I tickets to see the Libertines at Alexandra Palace after we had seen them in Hyde Park with him and his girlfriend just over 2 months earlier back in July. The Hyde Park gig had been amazing and lived up to all expectations, the Libertines are one of our favourite bands of all time and they had put on a retrospective set to remember. However the day was marred by poor sound quality, overcrowding which became a worry at times and bad organisation. The band had been so good however that my friend had got the tickets as a wedding present for us and them as we tied the knot shortly after the Hyde Park show. We stayed in a rather ropey hotel to say the least in Muswell Hill (review to come!) and while our digs weren't that special, Muswell Hill was nice enough, felt more suburb than I had experienced in London with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than the hustle & bustle of the central city. The streets were full of chain restaurants and bars and we stopped in the Giraffe for 2 for 1 melon Margaritas to wet the whistle before heading to the gig. The walk down from Muswell Hill was a pleasure, we grabbed a desperado or 2 and walked down through Alexandra Park, a well kept picturesque London park adjacent to the Venue. When we reached Alexandra Palace it was quite a site to behold and the sheer size of it was a surprise. I joked to everyone that it reminded me of the Swindon Oasis due to it's glass roof but it's a little more impressive than that! Upon entry to the grounds of the palace you are greeted by a before drinks bar and various food outlets which looked pretty good, I almost purchased a baretto and a pint but instead we decided to cue to get inside the venue. It took a minute or 2 to get in. The decision to bypass the outdoor food and drink options was a good one, as when we passed security we entered a huge indoor courtyard complete with bandstand and seating area in the middle (a chaz and dave tribute band were playing on the band stand!) and various good quality street food style stalls and bars around the outside. My friend and I were most impressed with the variety of drinks on offer compared to your average Academy with Cheddar Valley and Thatchers Gold Cider along with a selection of craft beers on tap! We hit the Cheddar Valley! The wife was feeling a little peckish and headed for the noodle bar, she returned with teriyaki beef noodles which were amazing! After a Cheddar Valley or 4 we headed to the main concert hall to catch Peace who were the main support act to play before the Libs. The main hall is long and vast. There was a lot of room to move about but I presumed it would feel a lot more crammed in once it got nearer to the headliners. Considering the size of the hall the acoustics were excellent and the stage production was minimal yet quality. I didn't know a lot of Peace songs except for their chart number but really enjoyed them. The Libertines were up next and again played a classic retrospective set with Pete Doherty & Carl Barrat also chipping in with solo numbers. Although it got busier for the main band I was surprised at how much room there was to move around still, considering it was a sold out show which was quite a contrast to Hyde Park! As gig venues go I can highly recommend Alexandra Palace and it made me realise how the setting can make such a difference to the atmosphere and the time had. If there's an act you wish to see that are playing at Ali Pali I highly recommend getting a ticket :)

Yelp
This place needs TWO reviews.. Why? It's like two places... first, the music and sports venue and second, the grounds and attachments to it... So that's what I'll do: 1. Venue: 4 stars Molly K's got it just about right. 'Ally Pally' attracts quite big bands, but not necessarily huge. I've been to see the Pigeon Detectives and Interpol here, both after two albums. Given the capacity is well over that of the late Astoria or Brixton Academy, the place wasn't full either time. That said, the atmosphere is still great and there is space to boogy (and not get beer all over you). The acoustics are good, the facilities are fine (apart from the ludicrous drinks faff). 2. Surrounding grounds: 5 stars Most people won't know this, I imagine (I didn't, but that might not be saying much). but there is a beautiful park surrounding the palace where you can go and have a picnic, throw a frisbee, chill out and relax, all with a GREAT view of London. There is a pitch and putt course, which at £6 for 10 holes and club hire is a bargain and great fun. On one end of the palace there's a nice pub and on the other there's a boating lake where you can hire a pedalo. I think there's also an ice rink nearby, too. I'd recommend going on a sunny Sunday for a nice day out.. there's plenty to do and, I repeat, the view is awesome.

Sinan O.

Yelp
Alexandra Palace, is a historical building, with vast grounds to take a nice long stroll, with farm animals and lake where you can rent a rowing/ pedal boat. On a sunny day, it is packed full of people. It also happens where the BBC put up their first Radio signal tower, I think it was the first in the world. Alley-Paley is also a great venue for ceremonies like music awards and festivals, many events have been held here, like the MTV Awards, Wine Festivals and Miss World. I think you will find some kind of an event at Alley-Paley at least once a month. On the weekends, most people go to the skating rink, which for a long while was the only attraction. It is a full size skating rink in a great setting. Robbie Williams filmed one of his videos here. As it is set on a Hill, you have a great view of London, there is only one pub on site, so you can sit there and have a drink, indoors or out, and have a nice view to look at. A few years back, the whole place was actually bought out by a millionaire, when this happened a few years back, he said that he had big plans for it. It really is a great location, and I am sure in the years to come there will be a lot more to do. For the moment, it is mainly skating. Every year (Nov 5th), they have a fantastic fireworks display for Guy Fawkes. It has been packed every year that I have been. Driving is there is not a problem, there is a free car park and you can also park on either side of the hill that it is set on. If by public transport, you will have to get the W3 bus, which is the only bus that passes through. Catch the bus from outside Wood Green tube. More money will be put into the great site, I just don't know what is taking so long for it to happen.

Chris T.

Yelp
My friend has just moved to Muswell Hill. So the Ally Pally is not much further than a 10 minute walk away, They had a Summer festival on when when i was down which was great fun! They seem to have a number of things on over the Summer months from food festivals to an outdoor cinema. Its a cool place to look around even if theres nothing on. Plus the views over London are pretty cool!

Heather K.

Yelp
We strolled up here one afternoon to check out the panoramic view of London at the top. Along the way, there are some beautiful grounds including a wildlife preserve area complete with deer! Pretty neat. There's also a little swan/duck pond you can rent paddleboats on, but the water was green and smelled super bad so I passed on that. The bathrooms at the pond house are REVOLTING - and on top of being disgusting, there's no soap to wash your hands with! Ew! The big "palace" at the top is impressive from a distance, but when you get close, you see that it's fallen into disrepair. Kinda sad and depressing. But the view from there of the city is indeed pretty rad.

Steve P.

Yelp
Great Place to visit on a Summer's Day! There is a bar where you can order drinks or coffees to be taken outside. It's a great way to enjoy a sunny day as they have benches outside, or you can sit on the hill overlooking the city. There's also the skating rink and music venues for a few more activities to do. I haven't been to either yet, but hopefully will soon. I did a tree climbing event just outside on the hill which was great fun and I'd recommend.

Haydy S.

Yelp
Was an awesome venue, and with the size of the stage you could see from pretty much anywhere you stood; even for tiny people like myself! The food festival in the outer room was amazing; we really recommend burger & beyond for their cheeseburger, and the cheesy chips from chunky chips & wicked dips.

Alice C.

Yelp
Wow Alexandra Palace is a pretty incredible venue! We went on Friday to see the Libertines gig and were really impressed! Ally Pally sits on the edge of a hill and offers an incredible view of the city, there's a bar with a great terrace to enjoy the view. Inside the venue is huge, the entrance hall has several bars and food stalls around the side. One of the bars was a particular favourite of ours, the served good cider such as cheddar valley for reasonable prices, being from the West Country this went down well. There's a cool seating area through the middle of the entrance hall, which has faux grass and comfy seats, there was also a few singers performing which was great to enjoy a few warm up drinks to! Inside the music hall is a large open space, there's loads of room and despite it being a sell out gig it felt like we had loads of room to move about in. The sound was great and the libertines certainly smashed it! The event was run really well, all the staff seemed to know what they are doing and were really friendly. Alexandra palace is a awesome venue, I would definitely go back and I would recommend a visit.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Only been here to visit the building and surrounding areas but it is a beautiful piece of architecture. You can check out the old BBC Reception Tower and the posters all around the building saying about the history of the venue!

Gareth H.

Yelp
The Alexandra Palace has has a rather ragged history, it burnt down...twice, and the first time was only 16 days after it originally opened. However, the stunning visual aspect of the Palace has been maintained from the point of its inauguration in 1873. Since then it has played host to various events, bringing entertainment to the people of London. Set in 196 acres of parkland, the Alexandra Palace is quite remote and can be a little hard to reach. What it lacks in transport routes, however, it more than makes up for in appearance. The building itself is exquisitely beautiful and the main exhibition hall feels like a very grand ballroom, which it probably is. I came to see The White Stripes play here about 5 years ago and it was a truly surreal experience. It felt almost wrong somehow that a venue this spectacular could be hosting an event of this sort. The room itself is large but not overbearing and you never lose sight of the onstage action. I would thoroughly reccomend a trip to The Alexandra Palace for, if nothing else, simply the opportunity to wander the magnificent grounds and marvel and this wonderful structure.

Daniel F.

Yelp
This is very local to me and very dear to my heart and it is an institution of North London with wonderful views overlooking London a great gig venue as well as event space, ice rink and even a pitch and putt course. It's just a great space for families and locals and a great selling point to living within walking distance.

Mark T.

Yelp
From the outside I don't think you can beat Alexandra Palace. The views are incredible and it's a fantastic building. I also think that for the actual gig itself (my only experience there so far) it definitely does the job. Big space, decent sound although the layout is slightly strange. What lets this place down is everything else. They have tried to make it into a mini festival type effort but it's not needed. If I want to eat very average, overpriced food I can do that pretty much anywhere! The one saving grace was the Bodean's food truck but even that wasn't great. The absolute cherry on the cake though was the bar. £5 for a pint of Fosters. You are having a laugh!

Jay B.

Yelp
Ice-Skating, I don't know whether it was because it was 2 days after Christmas or whether or not this is now the atmosphere at Alexandra Palace because on previous occasions way into the past I recalling having a decent to good experience, but, not on this occassion. Experience: It all started when I arrived. The afternoon session during the weekends ran from 2:00pm to 4:30pm so we arrived for about 2:15pm to our surprise there was a queue. A queue that fortunately did move swiftly but was quiet lengthy to start. Once we got to the cashier I asked the employee at the front counter how many people are currently inside the rink and to my surprise she answered that it was just over 300 people skating that Sunday afternoon. Next stop was going to collect our skates from the skate hire section. This is where customer service was a let down. Because I go ice-skating at least twice a year I asked a the employee a question about a skating myth I once heard which was "is it better to get one size up when picking skates for more comfort" to my surprise the guy just stared at me and said very bluntly "do you want a size 9 or a 10" without acknowledging the question nor give a hint of care. Oh the lockers. Without ranting on I must add that they cost 50p and are non-refundable. Even worse a situation when you insert a 50p coin after placing all of your items into the locker to find out that the looker has swallowed your cash yet not locked your belongings away. Which meant inserting my belongings into another locker and paying 50p again. Ice-Skating as a whole was decent. I go twice a year and always find it enjoyable but not on this occassion. It was cramped, no visible stewards just in case there was an accident, so cramped that you could not skate normally and everything moved at snail pace, music was on and off and not consistently on like in the past and it all just felt a little upsetting knowing that I have been to Alexandra Palace Ice-Rink for over 5years if not longer...

Stroud D.

Yelp
Amazing day at street food and craft day festival. Brilliant location with amazing views of London. Pitch n putt is also good fun! Lovely bar in the palm court.

Anastasia V.

Yelp
Alexandra Palace is an underrated venue in London. The view is breathtaking from the Palace grounds, and the little known park has a beautiful hillside, perfect for picnics and playing games when London is lucky enough to have some sunshine. The ice rink is becoming more and more popular, the sessions are fun and the staff are helpful, but it can get very busy so definitely worth pre-booking rink tickets online.

Katie B.

Yelp
Ahh Ally Pally, many a good memory here. My fella and I have spent many a sunny day lazing up on Ally Pally looking out over our favourite city. The views from here are fantastic. It can get fairly busy over the weekend and during the holidays, especially when the sun is out, but it's still a lovely place to chill out and have an ice cream. I hear there's an ice rink inside although I have yet to visit. My other half also insists Ally Pally is a perfect spot for a 'challenging jog'...I'll take his word on that one, the hill is much easier when tackled in a car!

Craig M.

Yelp
One of the better music venues in London for the bigger acts. I think more bands would play here were it not so hard to get to and isolated. What I like about Ally Pally is the grand feel about the place. It's what Victorian London is all about. Extravagant Palaces, just for shits and giggles. For gigs it's usually a decent set up - through the ticket gates, straight into a big hall full of bars and food options. Like a mini indoor festival. One star knocked off for the sound quality. It can be hit and miss. One star re-instated for the view of our city. I love you, London.

Molly R.

Yelp
Don't you love venues with nicknames? I do. Ally Pally. Classic. This is a VAST and EXPANSIVE building set atop a hill with spectacular views of the city. If you're not a north London resident, it can take quite a while to reach this spot, but don't let that deter you from visiting. Phil R and I came here for a gig a few months ago to see The Pigeon Detectives. I love that bands like them will play these massive gigs in the UK and barely sell out a 200 person venue in the States. I honestly love that -- it's one of the things I love most about living here (the music scene). If you haven't gathered that by now, of course... Be forewarned however: you have to rely entirely on buses to make it to Ally Pally and back to the tube at the end of the night. And you have to get WRISTBANDS for beverages (i.e. wait in two separate queues before achieving any sort of buzz).

Robert w.

Yelp
"Small but perfect" describes this place. However you will want to know more about this place. Well it attracts the young families to singletons looking for good food and to hang out with friends over coffee and cake. There is a wide range of stalls from the veg stall at the entrance that sells cute blue hens eggs to a stall selling Algerian food. You can purchase food to takeaway and picnic on the vast lawns of the Ally Pally. I really hate it when there is so much choice and so little time to try everything. I want it all from the Algerian meal deal (borek, mint tea and sweet pastry for just £3.90) to strawberry topped frosted muffins. There are a number of non food stalls selling ceramics, sheepskins and hats. However it's hard to find as I've never been to this part of London before so I suggest that you enter the park by the Muswell Hill entrance. Easily reachable by W3 bus from Alexandra Palace station.

Lizzie S.

Yelp
I love Ally Pally! Sat proudly on a hill in north London it's a monument to real Londoners. I first came here for a party years ago and then again for the fireworks on bonfire night and most recently for a stitch and knitting show. (don't judge, it was so much fun!) Apart from being a bit of a bitch to get to on the weekend when the whole of London underground seems to be out of use, it's pretty much a perfect space. For some reason I find it really romantic with all it's detailing and mirrored doors. It's a fabulous space and even to walk around the grounds and the park when there is nothing on is beautiful and totally worth it.

George C.

Yelp
Alexandra Palace (or Ally Pally :) ) is one of the best places to visit in North London. You can enjoy amazing views of London from here. Just grab a beer and sit in the grass outside... A beautiful building that hosts exhibitions & concerts and a small ice rink during the winter.

Melissa L.

Yelp
This venue was the business. One of the best places in London to see a live gig. Recently saw the Black Keys here and here were my impressions: 1. There was literally no bad place to see the show from. You could see even from the back of the room 2. It was not ridiculously hot (always a major plus) 3. There were tonnes of bar areas and no huge queues for the drinks (also a major plus) 4. The facilities were clean 5. The acoustics were great One of the best venues that I have been to in London hands down. I wish more acts would come here in the future.

Alex S.

Yelp
Venue with view. Done. First off: I have this childish 'thing' where I still, to this day, am predisposed to loving things that have my name in them. ALEXANDRA Palace? YES THAT SOUNDS PERFECT. So it's especially nice when things live up to expectation. Even before getting there I appreciated the 1 pound shuttle (covering both to/fro) from the Tube stop up the hill to the Pally. Can't confirm that this is a service always in effect but says this girl in heels who isn't slick at mastering them on hills: thanks. Get to the venue and turn around: looking down from a height there is an amazing view of London in front of you - a particular vantage point I'd never seen. Canary Wharf, BT Tower, Primrose Hill...we kindof walked around in awe pointing out places we saw and recognised (and places we thought we saw and recognised. "Hey, is that my go-to kebab shop there in the distance?" "Prolly not" "Pffft"). Once you've soaked up the view...on to the Palace itself. I saw The National there and they said, "being on set for The Hunger Games prepared me for this venue". 'nuff said? It's grand, with high ceilings and gilded mirrors and architectural details that I don't know the terms for. Getting through the doors was fine and easy and seamless and shoving-free. Ally Pally then opens up into a big, erm...market-place kind area. For concerts it has kindof a 'beer garden' feel to it, with different food (BURRITOS AND SAUSAGES) vendors and both boozy and non-boozy dranks. What I loved - in addition to the specific offerings - was the fact that it didn't feel frenzied or super-packed with people. Much appreciated. The main hall is excellent for music: great acoustics, good visibility no matter how far back you happen to be standing, and the hi-def screens were unexpected but very welcome. I will be looking for future concerts and events at Alexandra Palace...it's a really special place. Yelp note: venue essential that deserves special calling out - bathrooms! Many stalls, and clean! Hallelujah.

Maggie W.

Yelp
I love Alexandra Palace, and I can't believe I haven't reviewed it sooner! Especially as I live on its doorstep. The Palace is a beautiful building, and if you ever get the chance to go inside do! I've been in for a number of craft exhibitions (various charges) and most recently for Holland Heinekin House the Dutch national hospitality house for the Olympics. There's also an ice-rink which I'm yet to screw up the courage to use! I could talk about the park, facilities and view, but they would all be better placed in a review of the park itself. Of course, if you're visiting the Palace, you will undoubtably make use of the wonderful park too!

Ace T.

Yelp
One of the better venues and outdoor views of the city in London.. Pros: - Easy to get to, close to buses and the underground - Great Acoustics - Beautiful Venue - There is no such thing as a "bad" standing area. Their stage is elevated enough so that even a short girl like me, 5'3 was able to see the stage. - Eating area and stalls just right outside the door entrance and was kept clean the entire time.. - Walk outside and you have one of the best views in London..Alexandra Palace sits on a hill, so you have views of the city.. Cons: - Larger gigs, you may need to wait anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple hours for a bus. I don't have an issue for gigs and curfews, but I believe the few gigs that I had gone to ended by 11pm.. Not an issue for me, but it may be to some who want to be out later. Also, sometimes the stairs out front get closed off so you need to walk the long way around.. again, not an issue for me.

Simon M.

Yelp
This is an incredible space. The grounds are enormous, very well kept and really diverse. This used to be my regular running track and I miss it. The view from the bottom of the grounds looking up at the palace is nearly as good as the view of London from the Palace looking out. All manner of people use the park, including some excellent play ground facilities for children. The bar at the palace is only really fuctional, however you forget this as you sit out the front with a drink and gaze South over London. It's quite a carnival atmosphere. Inside the palace is great with soaring ceilings and impressive stained glass windows at either end. It has a reputation as a top music venue - particularly for raves - and I believe that this is well deserved.

Yelp
Im in alexandra palace nearly every weekend, Great place great views of london, with the boating lake, Bar and ice rink. Its the perfect place for a picnic with the family. Its great for hosting firework night and many other events too. Many funfairs are held and clubbing events too.

Qype User (Thecat…)

Yelp
This park is huge and the perfect place to let the dogs have their freedom with both wide open spaces and forest areas safe from traffic. The paths are good for cicyling as well. Because the place is so big it never seems too over crowded even in summer. The hill up to Alexandra Palace itself is a bit steep though good if you are fit. Sorry my photo is the wrong way round, Im not very technical minded....

This venue in the north of London is a palace that is not very old overlooking london on a hill. It looks very pretty and the view is one you could stare at for ages. There is parking available, except when events are taking place. Check the website to make sure. Within the palace there is a skating rink which is reasonable in price-£7 for a session which lasts around 2 hours. this includes shoe hire. The sorroundings are adequate but could do with some refurbishment as the carpet looks very old and the general decoration looks very worn out. surrounding the palace is a park which is nice and spacious. At certain times of the year there is a fun fair held here.

Yelp
Ally Pally is a wonderful, large open space which is great for lazing around in in the summer. In the winter they put on a great fireworks display. There's a fantastic farmer's market on Sundays selling fresh, delicious, homemade foods, fresh bread, as well as selling great organic produce. There are usually events/exhibitions taking place in the palace itself and it affords you some of the most amazing views of London.

Yelp
I haven't been yet this year, but on the three or four occasions that I visited Alexandra Palace (or Ally Pally as it's known) over the years, I've always had a great time. I've mainly been for gigs, as it's a wonderful venue, due to its size and grandeur, plus the views over London from there are unbeatable. Definitely somewhere to see a major act, you'll be blown away. I have seen Bonobo, Sander Van Doorn, Fake Blood and Eric Prydz there, and am off to see Prodigy in a week's time!

Yelp
Possibly one of the best places in London and for sure top 5 in North London. There top venues out there mostly every weekend - all sort of stuff. There is great bar with Morretti Italian Lager that isn't available so much in other places. It also seems to taste better from draft than from the bottle. Funny but in many Italian restaurants you may not get it from draft. If you wine lover you will be pleased with the fact there is Spanish Rioha. It's best in for romantic go out but really it's just fantastic place to relax for all. It's peaceful. Many benches inside the park it's large and epic in Summer. On the back you will find mini lake. Its my favorite place since 2007 and I have made number of outstanding deep memories over there.

Yelp
I come to Ally Pally annually for the Knitting & Stitching Show. It's a great big venue with plenty of space for exhibitors and very clean bathrooms (which is a big deal during a large event!). Nice, if pricey, food options and a GREAT shuttle from Wood Green Station which is FREE for events. On a clear day the views are marvelous and on a rainy/foggy day the views are magical. Can't beat it!

Yelp
I never realized there was so much to do at Alexander Palace. I originally went for Guy Fawks night where they have a pretty incredible fireworks display. The place will be packed so make sure to arrive early to enjoy the bonfire, and get a good viewing spot. There is an ice rink which is normally packed with children but they have a "Coffee Morning" on Wednesday's and a 30 minute adult lesson and 15 minute skating session in the evenings. The theatre is really fantastic with a beautiful stained glass window. They host unique events and concerts, the concert I saw had an amazing light show, a waterfall in front of the stage and loads of confetti blown into the audience. I love a venue not afraid of its audience but involved the audience. The sound was great, it was intense but not so loud your ears ring afterwards. The best part was that I could actually see the stage, usually in standing concerts I am too short to see over the giants in front of me. The way to purchase food and drinks is a bit strange, you must first buy nonrefundable tickets for £1.75 each with coke or water being one ticket and beer or wine being two tickets at the ticket counter and then go over to the food and drinks stands and exchange your tickets for goods. I found all this fuss a bit strange. There are lovely grounds to walk around in at Alexandra Palace and capture some great photographs of the BT Tower. There is paddle boats, and a small golfing area, and quite often a fun fair for the whole family to enjoy.

Yelp
I haven't been there yet but on September the 5th I am going there for a gaming convention. I assume by the pictures that it is going to be way better than I thought!

Yelp
Good place to visit on a sunny day, lay in the garden or just roam about the place. One can see for miles towards London in a clear day.

Yelp
Another great London Park. We have spent many a lazy afternoon here while the older kids have been swimming in galas at Park Road Pool down the road. A great place to while away some hours in the sun. Again we are normally packed up with a picnic and flask of coffee. The views here are some of the best in London and there are great hills for rolling down. Nice little playground, super boating lake open April to November and make sure you catch the deer enclosure take your time and explore. We have also used the ice rink which is ok but not great. I imagine live gigs here are awesome.on our to do list!

Yelp
My first view of Alexander Palace was stunning. Red and yellow brick work glowing in the late sun, glass roofs reflecting the blue of the afternoon sky dominating the top of a hill with the BBC mast rising over it. Built in the Victorian era, around 130 years ago, the 'People's Palace' is something that draws your eye to it again and again. Closer up I found myself faced with a car park full of coach parties. I headed in to see what was going on. It turned out to be 'The premier one day Group Travel exhibition in the South East of England'. Yep, people were coming on coach tours to an exhibition on coach tours. I didn't go into the exhibition itself, but did explore the Palm Court entrance hall. A mix of Victoriana and mock Egyptian (sphinxes, pyramid shaped fountains and real palm trees). It was nice but so polished and clean-painted it looked almost too brand new. There was also a bar, with facilities to serve meals, and some tired but OK toilets. I realised that it couldn't be all though round the corner I walked along a wide balcony, full of people, and with amazing views over London and the South East. I found a massive hall where noisy sound checks could be heard. The doors were closed but through the windows I could see some amazing architecture and huge organ at the end. Further on there was a stretch with boarded up windows (I think this may be a fire-damaged Victorian theatre, currently being restored). Then the BBC tower (from which the first ever television broadcast was made) with a bored looking security guard visible inside. Round the other end was the skating rink (£6/7 for an adult, doors closed due to being at capacity). Then I peeped round one last corner and found myself looking at another disused stretch looking like something out of Gormenghast, with wild parakeets flying in and out of a window. Overall it was certainly a buzzing place, with lots going on. I think it would be a great venue to visit for an event. Though those disused areas certainly look like its seen better days. It has an unfortunate history of fires, but it seems it is being restored piece by piece.

Yelp
Went here for the fireworks, so must be worth describing that. I wasn't sure which bus to get, I think I could have got straight there on the 132 or the 43, but there is also a direct train from Kings Cross which would have been quicker. There was the beerfest at the same time which was amazing. The Palace is a bit like the crystal palace must have been, a huge pleasure dome with a glass roof. The main hall is absolutely enormous and when I went had a fun fair and a british ale festival. (I tried a couple, Everard's and something else) The beerfest in the west hall was wall to wall people, drinking a choice of two beers, erdinger weiss and paulaner at £4 each. You were meant to order from the beer girls, and presumably tip them hugely for the privilege. The queue at teh bar was ten deep. Likewise the queues for the german food were incredibly long. The fireworks were brilliant. I managed to get onto the terrace just as policemen were rushing towards the gate saying 'who's in charge? Shut this entrance now!' The display went on for twenty five minutes, I'd had enough after twenty, and was pleased to find no queues at the lager bar, but they'd run out of the weiss beer, so i went to the food line. Unfortunately they'd run out of food as well, just a few sorry looking beefburgers left. I walked back a different route through the park, all the way to crouch end, because I didn't have enough money on my card, but it reminded me how nice the area is and how pleasant it would be to live there.

Yelp
I've been to Alexander Palace for a geek event over the weekend and thought it is a geat place to visit. As well as the main building and surrounding park there is a boating lake and an ice rink too. Probably best to visit when there is an event such as the recent fireworks going on, although it does make for a good afternoon stroll in the grounds too. There are great views over London.

Yelp
A really lovely building aplty named palace. All kinds of events take place here from patchwork festivals and farmers markets to ice hockey matches and full on raves. The Park area out front offers some of the most beautiful views available of London looking over virtually the whole of central London. On Fire works night it is particularly special as literally thousands gather to watch an impressive display with the added bonus of being able to see some of the equally impressive display in primrose hill and the rest of the cities fireworks too. In summer you can play pitch and put, go rowing on the lake and even go to the fun fair.

Yelp
Ali Pali fireworks is a major event for North London. Loads of money is pumped into the night and it pays off- literally everyone you have ever known comes to watch. The fireworks are fabulous and, adding to their finery, are accompanied by a massive fun fair.

Yelp
Have many a happy memory of this place from my childhood. Situated at the top of a hill with a great view of London, the palace is an impressive building, but is in need of a bit of a facelift. The large indoor ice rink is a great place to go with kids for a fun and energetic afternoon, or go yourselves and relive your youth. They also have varous other activities going on there all year round, so it's a good idea to check the website and see if anything takes your fancy.

Yelp
I really don't like this venue for gigs been to a few here now and there always been trouble at the gigs. I saw the darkness their and one of my mates got pushed over a tramped on. When I saw placebo there on their Meds tour the band was rubbish which is most unlike them, they didnt even come back out for an oncore. The other band I saw here was The Editors, and on that gig somone threw something on the stage which casued all the amps to go resutling in them having to miss the last 3 songs in the set. When bands play here now I do tend to miss it out unless its the last option as its hard to get to and drinks are very steep as well.

Yelp
The best fireworks display in the country! I managed to somehow receive VIP tickets to this year's event and was treated to meal and drinks before the fireworks started. It was one of the best night's out in London I've had and the fireworks were the best part of it. It seems like they're endless - no wonder people flock to it from all over London. You can see other displays through London from the Palace on the hill and they all look lame in comparison I will be back every year!
