Alda Hotel

Despite what others seem to have said lately we really couldn’t fault our stay here. We arrived around 11:30am and were happy to find our room was ready. We had a view over the street from the third floor in a modern well equipped room. The furnishings are nice and I suppose more functional than to some people’s taste but for us this is what we want from a hotel that is a base for some adventures and a place to sleep. There is a little bit of noise from the street as the hotel is centrally located but nothing to get upset about. On the plus side the shops, cafes, restaurants and bars are all on the doorstep. The biggest positive for us though was the staff. The reception staff were all great and really helpful, especially as we had a couple of minor hiccups of our own making which they resolved with us with no fuss, they are a real credit to the hotel and were great for any advice we needed. ||Breakfasts were lovely with plenty of choice of fruits, pastries, breads, cold meats, porridge and cooked items. Again the staff work hard here to keep the place tidy and efficient whilst also dealing with the occasional sleep deprived and grumpy customer who has just got off an overnight flight!! We didn’t eat an evening meal here but the restaurant was busy and the food looked good. ||Normally we say never go back as there are too many places in the world to visit and stay but the Iceland bug has bitten us hard and we are already talking about coming back and travelling around more to see more of this amazing place. If we decide to stay in Reykjavik again I wouldn’t hesitate to choose Alda Hotel

Great location. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. Services and shopping all around and walkable. In fact driving to anything near the hotel doesn't make much sense given the traffic. Overnight parking is very close, about 1/2 block. Service was very good here. Room and bed were comfortable. Radiant heat works very well. The bathroom was good. Noise level in the room was low. Breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of seating.

This is a very well kept hotel with great access to downtown and easy walking to a tour pick up spot. We had an amazing view from our room and the environment was quiet. I thought the price was very expensive, but they mostly made up for it with service, which was on point and they helped to accommodate all of my needs. The restaurant also makes good, healthy breakfasts.

My sister and I recently stayed here and what a great experience! The rooms were perfect. Could leave your windows wide open all night and it was still quiet. The front desk girls were so sweet! I wish I got the name of the main girl we saw all the time. I kept bugging her for ice for the room and she always obliged with a smile ALWAYS on her face. PLUS, I think she was a robot who didn’t sleep?! We’d see her late at night at the desk and then also again in the early morning?!?! We teased her she needed to go to bed! I wish we got her name but she went above and beyond on her service. We really loved her! Also, the free breakfast every morning was effing gourmet!! Made our trip to Iceland THAT much better!

This was a very nice hotel and we got a complimentary upgrade to a King room with balcony. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel but I was told it was approximately $30-$35 (U.S. dollars) per person. They give you a cell phone to take out of the hotel but it seemed to be a little slow even on wifi. If you want to be within walking distance to shops and restaurants it is a great location but for that same reason, you do get a decent amount of street noise from people/cars, mainly in the evening. There is no free parking so you do have to pay to park and there is a garage about a block from the hotel. The garage is closed from midnight to 7am so if you need an early departure, you're stuck finding and paying for more expensive hourly street parking nearby.

Family of 4 stayed in Family Room 222. Very quiet room location and comfortable and very clean room. Was able to keep the window open all night without any noise. Check in was fast and friendly. Room was ready early which was nice after a lot of traveling. Location is excellent with easy walking to shops, restaurants, bars, etc. 7 min walk from bus stop 13. ||Special mention on the bedding which was Artic Goose Down which is very expensive and extremely comfortable. Amazingly the sofa bed was just as comfortable as the main bed which was unexpected. Bathroom and shower had brand name shampoo, shower get and conditioner. ||Breakfast buffet was nice for a small hotel with plenty of options and refreshed quickly. ||I didn’t visit any other hotels but, from the outside, the Alda appears the nicest. Staff was always friendly and saying hi.

We stayed at Alda last week in a King room with balcony. I booked this in hopes to see the Northern Lights and we were able to see them both nights by just going out to the balcony. The room was very comfortable and clean. My only issue with the room was there needed to be a mirror outside of the bathroom so the second person can get ready when the other is showering. The front staff was very friendly and happily held our bags for us after checking out. We had drinks in the restaurant which was very enjoyable. Excellent location and great value. We will stay here again when visiting Reykjavik.

We stayed in late May; 1st stop on 18 day trip. The room was simple, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delightful, something for everyone. Also a nice little water bottle station. Our disappointment was the check in person was rigid about being early. We are seniors and like many guests traveled on an overnight flight. We arrived between 11-12 and were told firmly check in was at 3. We understand and were just hoping someone could let us know when the room was available - ‘we don’t have that functionality’. We later met and learned another couple paid an additional charge for early check in which we would have happily done had it been offered. We will definitely ask any hotel we are going to stay in about this when we travel overnight in the future. The rest of the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great but was a short to medium distance walk to most meeting places for the bus tours.
