"There are things you need to experience before you die. One is falling in love, and another is Detroit-style pizza. Ace’s has some of the best in the city, and they have a little location geared toward takeout on the lower level of Rockefeller Center. Varieties like vodka meatball and buffalo chicken are available, but we prefer the plain cheese. The thick, deep brown, crispy burnt cheese edges are what make each pie special, and you’ll want to hoard the corner slices. The pizzas are baked to order, so you won’t get your food quickly. They’re worth the wait." - bryan kim, will hartman, hannah albertine, kenny yang

"Several years ago, there was a Detroit-style pizza boom. Suddenly, you could find it on every corner, and the children were revising their birthday wishlists to include fluffy, rectangular pies. Now that the dust has settled, we’re ready to declare a winner: Ace’s. We’re fans of this Williamsburg spot, and not just because it looks like a ‘70s pizza parlor, complete with arcade games and VHS tapes. Their pies are thick, but airy, with zesty tomato sauce and crunchy browned cheese lining the edges. Each bite is deeply satisfying in a way that’ll haunt you for days." - willa moore, bryan kim, neha talreja, arden shore

"Ace’s in Williamsburg makes the best Detroit-style pizza in the city. Their shop might look like any old slice joint, but it’s somewhere you can hang out, sip some wine or beer, and play Mario Kart on N64. While they also do Sicilian pies and slices, your first move at Ace’s should unquestionably be some iteration of Detroit-style. Keep it simple, and get your pizza topped with pepperoni—and if you’re with one other person, order a small. You’ll get four airy slices with a crispy cheese-webbed crust that will fill you with profound joy." - bryan kim, willa moore, kenny yang, carlo mantuano, molly fitzpatrick

"Our first bite of the Detroit-style pizza from this spot on Metropolitan and Driggs reminded us of our first time we tried Emmy Squared back in 2016—a joyous experience of light and airy dough, and crispy cheese-studded crust. While Emmy Squared has become somewhat of a chain restaurant, Ace’s has all the magic of a new, delicious slice joint. Not to mention the fact that a medium Detroit-style pepperoni pizza costs $20 and is the perfect size to share with a friend." - willa moore, neha talreja, bryan kim, will hartman, sonal shah

"This is a fairly small spot, but it's configured in a way where you can't really pack that many tables together. If you're the sort who takes their kids out for pizza (if you have kids, you're probably that sort whether you like it or not), there's room for everyone to roam around here. Personal space aside, this place has some of our favorite Detroit-style pizza in the city." - kenny yang
