"Unpronounceable Open-Faced Sandwiches A visit to Denmark must include trying the country's famous, impossible-to-pronounce open-faced sandwich, smørrebrød (I'm fairly certain that only native Danish speakers can pronounce it properly -"SMUHR-bruth"). Smørrebrød translates to "buttered bread," and a traditional smørrebrød lunch usually includes three or four small sandwiches ranging from potatoes and radish to egg salad. The once working-class lunch gets a chefy makeover at Aamanns where the smørrebrød is served on homemade rye bread. The restaurant design is charming, with big stencils of radishes and cows on the walls. Order the smørrebrød trio for lunch, and ask to have it paired with a biodynamic wine."

Brilliant toasts, and a required eating for anyone visiting Copenhagen. I recommend the herring and the plaice. The herring has the right amount of pickling to cut against the nutty bread. The topping is salty and fatty to add more depth, with the greens fresh enough to round out the dish with a vegetal wrap. But the plaice is even better. A relatively thick fillet, lightly fried, with a lovely mayo on top, this I could eat a bunch of. The fish is so so good, and because of the lightness of the breading, the underlying rye bread is still the right base. Other fried fish is done on light brioche breads, but this fish is better with the nutty rye. The dressing on this is also excellent and savory. Highly, highly recommend. I will try to go back every year I'm in Copenhagen. I also recommend trying to order and eat indoors as the building provides shade from the sun, making the outdoor seating area a bit chilly. However, if you sit outdoors you don't have to go inside as you can order from QR codes. So outdoors may be better if you're impatient.

I can recommend the herring, and perhaps other cold options. I think the plaice with shrimp salad is overpriced for what it offers. This one piece was 165 dkk (almost £20 a piece..). Basically tastes like fried fish with mayo-based sauce. Not bad but def not worth £20 even for cph prices.

The smørrebrød was nice - I cannot say delicious. I ordered two – one with herring (tasty fish with nice topping) and the other with chicken salad (unfortunately very delicate). I enjoyed the sandwiches, but their size, especially considering the price, was excessive. I'm inclined to think the place is a tourist trap. Regarding the service: there's a sign to wait for a table, but after two minutes I chose one myself - the man behind the counter saw me. Furthermore, another person was served at the table, and I had to go to the cashier – the ordering system is unclear. I also didn't receive a drinks menu. Not recommended

Amazing food! Got to try a couple of their open sandwiches and my absolute favorite was the shrimp on sourdough, which had a super tasty and flavorful sauce.

The food was exceptionally tasty! The prawn with the sourdough bread was my favourite! They do very cute takeaway boxes which is perfect for a picnic and their coffee is very good too. Very clean and cozy place.

Run, don’t walk to eat the most delicious smørrebrøds ! I discovered this gem last year thanks to the Copenhagen episode of Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix and I knew I had to go back when I visited again a few weeks ago. This time, I had to go back twice as I absolutely fell in love with the beef tartar, rhubarb compote and cream cheese mousse smørrebrød! 11/10, no notes! I also tried the curried herring (deliciousssss), the roast beef (yummy) and the butter-fried plaice and shrimp salad. Always a great meal for each of my 3 visits and I will undeniably be back next time I’m in Copenhagen. Highly recommend.

Google
A great spot to try traditional smørrebrød with a refined twist. The presentation is more elegant and colorful than usual, and each plate feels carefully crafted. Prices are on the higher side but that’s expected in Copenhagen (they are a bit more expensive than other smørrebrød places in the city). Surprisingly, the vegetarian options impressed us the most — beautifully balanced flavors and really tasty combinations. We also enjoyed a lovely white tea that perfectly complemented the meal. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a modern take on a Danish classic!

Excellent herring with curry sandwich. The other dishes coming out of the kitchen, the salmon, beef tartare looked equally as good. Well worth the long walk from the city centre. A place not to be missed
