"A Hot Chicken Fix for the Downtown Crowd As you head away from downtown on 4th Avenue, look closely for this sign or you’ll miss it. And know that the popular downtown chicken joint’s owner stood many a minute in the line at Prince’s (the original Nashville-style hot chicken joint) until she formulated a recipe of her own and opened a place. Though you can choose from varying levels of heat, many folks say it’s the overall hottest in town."

400 Degrees has some of the best hot chicken in Nashville! There's not a lot of different food choices on the menu, but what is offered is properly cooked and seasoned well. The owner always has a smile, awesome customer service and likes to chat with the customers! Parking is scare, but there is plenty of dining space for those who want to gather in a group and eat together. I highly recommend this restaurant! 10/10 - Food Quality 09/10 - Food Quantity 06/10 - Food Variety 09/10 - Food Prices 09/10 - Customer Service 08/10 - Customer Wait Time 08/10 - Dining Atmosphere 10/10 - Dining Congestion 06/10 - Parking

We had a long wait for freshly made chicken. I tried the 200 and the 400. The heat level on both was enjoyable and the meat quality was fine but the spice flavor was overwhelmingly bad. The coleslaw was good. I would recommend going elsewhere for hot chicken.

I made a point to stop in Nashville to get some of this famous hot chicken, and I was not disappointed. I'm always so happy to find a place that's serious when they say "hot", and apparently Nashville is serious about it. I was warned, but I was confident in my ability to handle the heat. It was just about at my upper limit of tolerance, but I'm proud to say I finished the 400. She tells me that she has a 500 and an 800, too, but I'm not about to touch those. The flavor was fantastic. My wife opted for the 0 degree (plain), and it may have been the best fried chicken we've ever tasted. I love hot food, but I might actually get those next time, just because they were so outstandingly tasty.

Hands down the best Hot Chicken in my opinion. Aqui is always consistent in heat, flavor, and perfectly cooked chicken! Never had a bad meal here and I eat it multiple times a month. Call up to an hour before you go though, it takes a few minutes to cook the chicken perfectly. She had multiple levels of heat(all have great flavor and isn't hot just to be hot): 100 - Mild. Comparable to most chain mediums. 200 - Got some burn to it. Comparable to most places Hot/X-Hot. Half way between Prince's Mild and Medium. I usually get this for lunch. Best flavor I feel. 400 - Hotter, Save this for dinner or if I want to show people true Hot Chicken. This is above Prince's Medium, but not as bad as their Hot. She also has 500 and 800. Haven't touched those yet. But as you can imagine. Hotter.

Great food, POOR service. I had a group of out-of-town friends visiting and after going to a hockey game, we decided to grad dinner at 400 Degrees. Bad mistake. The owner, Aqui, was rude and we ended up leaving and going to Hattie B's in Midtown. I will say 400 Degrees' hot chicken is very good, but my opinion is that if you are rude and act like you don't want my business, then I'm happy to take that business elsewhere.

If you want hot chicken, come to this place. The highest on the menu is 400°, but once you have that, you are allowed to try the 500° or 800° flavors. Parking is available across the street for $5. Get here early because they get busy really quick. Aqui Hines is the one of the friendliest people you will ever meet.

Aqui Simpson, chef and owner of 400 Degrees is a really nice person, and nice goes a long way in conducting business. She offers 4 levels of hot chicken or pork chop, 0, 100, 200, and 400 (there is no 300). 0 is no chili peppers at all to 400 which can be so hot you might regret it going in, through and out. I work close to 400 Degrees Hot Chicken, so before I leave the office, I will call in my order, and 20 minutes later, I walk up to the counter and pick up my order. I usually get the 100 degree heat level because it is hot, but I can still taste the other herbs and spices Aqui uses on the chicken. Every piece of chicken or pork chop is made to order. It is fresh chicken or pork chop that is hand dipped in the special coating and then deep fried. Really good!

The chicken was the worst fried chicken I have ever had. The cole slaw wasn't good either but at least it washed down the taste of the greasy, underseasoned "sauce" on the chicken. The best part was the ranch dressing. Definitely won't be back.
