Jordan Butcher
Appalachian art director in NYC
American restaurant · Downtown
It’s right across the street from the White House, so it’s a little touristy, but worth visiting at least once. Pub fair, very old. Sit at one of the bars.
Temporarily Closed
Don’t order anything else on the menu until you’ve had the oyster Po Boy.
Chinese restaurant · Columbia Heights
My favorite restaurant in DC. Hong King Chinese menu, and the wine list is almost all natural and very well appointed. Reservations a must.
Restaurant · Capital City Market
Sister restaurant to the NYC location. Steakhouse. Very, VERY good wine list. Reservations are encouraged. Spendy.
Deli · Georgetown
Bagels, etc. Multiple locations, breakfast is the best in the city, IMO. Best to order ahead for pickup thru their website, the lines get crazy.
Bakery · Woodley Park
Upscale Asian bakery with fantastic donuts. Line can get a little long.
Permanently Closed
Coffee and natural wine bar, open all day. Has a great little food/snack menu in the evening. VERY small, seats maybe 10 people.
Bar · Reykjavik
Maybe the best bar I’ve have ever been to. Very old corner bar with great beers and strong cocktails with a very cool crowd. They play a lot of The Smiths. Iceland’s take on the dive bar.
Bakery · Reykjavik
Tiny bakery and coffee shop that turns into a pizza joint in the evening. The morning lines get pretty long during tourist season, I’d go right at open, thankfully open earlier than most coffee around town. The almond croissant is the move.
