"After 11 years of renown in New York City, The Dead Rabbit opened a second location on Dirty Sixth Street, transforming a former B.D. Riley’s into a cavernous pub full of heavy wooden tables and walls covered in homey framed artwork. It's equal parts cocktail bar and restaurant, blending Celtic classics with Texas flourishes. That means you can find popcorn tossed in Terry Black’s spice mix, fish and chips, a large Irish breakfast, and a cowboy caviar bowl all on the same menu. But it's a hit-or-miss experience, with food that misses more often than it hits. Dishes tend to arrive underseasoned, overcooked, and priced as if they’re meant for dukes with deep pockets. Where The Dead Rabbit excels is its cocktails, including a dedicated Irish coffee menu with five excellent varieties. Head here for a caffeine buzz in a nice atmosphere that’s a significant cut above most of the bars in a 100-foot radius, but if you’re looking for memorable Irish food, try Kelly’s in South Austin." - Nicolai McCrary
