Good Stuff Eatery Review - Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Good Stuff Eatery is a fast-casual burger chain, but one we continue to find mediocre. Let's consider things on a spectrum of Batman movies. If Shake Shack and In- In-Out are the gold standard for this style burger restaurant (fact), then they are The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Good Stuff Eatery is more like the 1995 Batman Forever, a 5.4 on IMBD. Not as godawful as 1997's Batman & Robin starring George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but also not great. We’ve been to Good Stuff Eatery a few times, and our burgers always have something off. They are often overcooked, or on more than one occasion have been so unevenly seasoned to the point you get a couple crazy salty bites. And it doesn’t matter whether we order a beef burger, turkey burger, or steak burger, because none of them ever nail it like Christian Bale nails the Batman voice. The french fries don’t do any saving either, because they are about as generic as french fries get. The only thing not generic about the fries is the Dip Bar, which offers more styles of flavored mayo than you need in life - chipotle mayo, Sriracha mayo, old bay seasoning mayo, and mango mayo. You should consider the fact there are better casual burger options, just like the producer of Batman Forever should have considered other actors when he cast George Clooney in the leading role. Food Rundown Spike’s Sunnyside Burger on a brioche bun with bacon, fried egg, and cheese. It just doesn’t do it for us. The bun is good, but the burger is often overcooked. Good Stuff Melt Melted cheddar, muenster, caramelized onions, and carmelized mushrooms. The extra toppings add some extra flavor, but not enough to pull it all together. Free Range Turkey Burger The turkey burger is even worse than the beef burger. Even with avocado and muenster cheese it’s entirely too dry with little flavor. President Obama Burger This is supposed to be Good Stuff’s pristine burger. Bacon, roquefort cheese, horseradish mayo (not available in the Dip Bar), and onion marmalade. We admit the onion marmalade and roquefort cheese are great, but our issues with the patty itself remain the same. Sunny’s Handcut Fries Regular fries with sea salt. Average at best. Village Fries You can add some thyme and rosemary to the fries, but it doesn't change the fact they're average." - Sam Faye
