"Pipis isn’t just located near the beach. It’s smack-bang on top of it. The restaurant looks like a modest summer bungalow, complete with rattan furniture, linen drapes, and floor-to-ceiling windows that make the most of the spectacular ocean view. Service is ultra-relaxed, and the ever-changing menu is unsurprisingly dominated by things plucked from the briny deep. Sydney Rock oysters team with apple mignonette, plump Skull Island prawns are served hot off the barbecue, and blue eye is steamed and served with macadamia-chili crisp. Seats are sought-after, particularly in summer months, so book ahead or get here well before the sun starts to set. Missed out? The takeaway fish-and-chip window is a decent consolation prize for the disorganised." - Ellen Fraser
