"Parkside Candy, one of Buffalo’s oldest and most beloved candy stores, came under new ownership in the 1980s when Phil Buffamonte and his brother Ron took over the historic Parkside Candy Shoppe space. Originally opened in 1919 by George Kaiser and his wife, the store expanded to a new building in 1927 designed by local architect Morton Woolfe, where it resides today. The Buffamontes began their foray into candy in 1974, and eventually purchased Parkside Candy after seeing a for sale sign. The store retained original machines and recipes were recreated through trial and error. The shop is known for its regional specialty, sponge candy, and also produces various chocolates and candies in its 25,000 square feet factory. Parkside Candy is recognized as a historic landmark and offers products in-store and online, maintaining its original grandeur through restorations." - Tori Allen
