"When Saad Alrayes opened his food cart at the corner of 38th Street and Spruce more than 30 years ago, halal meat was not available in Philadelphia. In order to serve culturally relevant food to the growing Muslim community in West Philly, Alrayes slaughtered the animals himself to meet halal standards.
